CARTOON ANSWER:

THE COST TO USE THE FACILITY’S NEW ROCK-CLIMBING WALLS SEEMED – – –

TEA TET PLE LIS = A LITTLE STEEP

Happy Thursday everyone! There were no new clue words to tell you about this morning. All of our anagrams, including the one for the final answer, were though. WKATE was my toughie. I didn’t have to back into it or anything. Splitting up the anagram into consonants and vowels (WKT and AE) made it a cinch to spot. We did have a bit of an oddity when it came to the solved words. They were listed in descending alphabetical order — and by my count it’s the fifth time it’s happened (so far) this year. The other dates are: 1/26, 2/10, 4/13, and 8/2.

Excellent rock-climbing cartoon. I’m no fan of heights so it’s not something I’d willingly fork over money to experience. The name of the establishment is CITY PEAKS CLIMBING WALLS, and the word CITY stuck out as being the reason why it was so expensive. The total cost would be $150….. but is that per person or for both of them? The gentleman’s dialogue made it apparent that he didn’t check for a Groupon! My favorite detail ended up being the 39-grips on the wall in the background. They’re technically called climbing holds, and they’re often arranged in paths to the top called routes.

The hefty price tag and the visual clue of the climbers hanging on for dear life in the background made for an instant solve. We’ve had it too easy this week. Tomorrow’s puzzle should be interesting…. Until then, be well and enjoy the day. //Mike

  2. Found TWEAK a little difficult because I wasn’t positive it was spelled that way.
Otherwise a walk in the park……………….
Always impressed how well my J brothers and sisters deal with these challenges.
Cooled down nicely in SoCal today and should be good for the next week, then the dreaded Santa Ana winds will arrive.
    Crossing my fingers, I remain,

  3. I got everything but was stuck on LAVISH , all else was smooth , feel like heading to PEBBLE beach , but had to TWEAK that idea so I’ll LAVISH that, heading to the fair today snd watching the horse races , that gives me something to do that’s not too STEEP so I’ll see you all ! Have a good Thursday and keep smiling !

    • Always a pleasure reading your comments, Jim. I hope your MANE squeeze is tagging along too. Don’t STIRRUP too much trouble! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  4. Good Morning, Everyone. 🧗🏻‍♂️HIGH FINANCE? 🧗🏻‍♂️

🎶 Every step I’m taking….every move I make feels lost with no direction…My faith is shaking….But I gotta keep trying, gotta keep my head held high…There’s always gonna be another MOUNTAIN…Ain’t about what’s waiting on the other side…It’s the CLIMB…🎶 “The Climb” – Miley Cyrus 2009 https://tinyurl.com/4w3zp5yv

🧗🏻‍♂️Our couple is in shock here when the guy tells them the cost,
Of climbing “City Peaks” walls…and they’re feeling pretty lost…
But what about the guy at right? Sans the right shoes and belt?
I guess another 50 bucks? Oh no…way too much gelt…
The thing ‘bout climbing walls though, is not the daring TEMPT,
It’s once that you get up there…what if you should get verklempt?
No matter how you TWEAK it, once you’re up…well now you’re stuck,
And unless you’re really adept…you just might be out of luck..
You think you see a PEBBLE drop…of course it’s just your nerves,
You’re glancing down and thinking…”Coming up, were there those curves”?
So what looked so inviting…this LAVISH climbing wall,
Just doesn’t look so lavish now…you’re scared you’re gonna fall…
They’re better off down on the ground, with their feet planted deep…
‘Cause from up there you’re gonna see…it’s def A LITTLE STEEP…🧗🏻‍♂️

  5. 📿 Even though the handmade PEBBLE jewelry was LAVISH, the prices were A LTTLE STEEP, and she wondered if she could TEMPT the guy to TWEAK them down a little…📿

🪨 She skimmed the PEBBLE ‘cross the pond, and felt the need to TWEAK,
Her wrist a bit to get the exact jump that she did seek…
The water looked so LAVISH, it could TEMPT most anyone,
To wade into it and enjoy it’s warmth beneath the sun
But looks can be deceiving…and she chose not to go deep…
As it was hard to tell whether it was A LITTLE STEEP…🪨🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Good morning. I climbed to the pinnacle today. Not only did I get the words in quick succession but I even got a blind solve besides. Four days straight of easy jumbles, when will the hammer fall. Enjoyed your posts Angela. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  7. I won’t Lavish praise on myself for an easy solve because I don’t want to Tempt fate and get a Pebble in my shoe or some other Tweak to my good fortune. The price I could pay for bragging might be A Little Steep. Beautiful weekend weather expected on the Great Plains. Only two work days back from time off and my Friday-Saturday weekend arrives. How lucky am I? Good Jumbling to all!

  8. In a sport that’s def not for all
You have to be sure not to fall
But as the price list they scale
    You’ll hear a loud wail
‘Cause it has them climbing the wall!

Over to you Angela! Reach for the top! The sky’s the limit!

    • Hi Helen…The sky’s the limit,👏🏻👏🏻 indeed! 🙋🏻‍♀️

🧗🏻‍♂️ “City Peaks” costs are so way out of line,
That our couple fears they’ll need decline…
So far out of their budget,
      That they’re forced to say…”Fudge it…
We do this, and all month we can’t dine”! 🧗🏻‍♂️

        • LOL…It’s a definite no to climbing mountains Helen…and while I will ford a stream…I stopped following rainbows a while ago…😉🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Like others, found an easy Thursday with a blind solve and easy anagrams. Since others are weighing in about the weather….central Texas will be hot and no rains so far from Hurricane Nicholas.

  10. Anagrams went swiftly, but I had to write down the available letters for the cartoon solution, before seeing ‘steep’ quickly followed by the complete solution.Definitely a Thursday level puzzle. No blind solve today.

  11. Mike – I have just read your post and noted that you counted 39 steps in the cartoon. Could there be a connection to The Thirty-Nine Steps, by John Buchan. Lord Tweedsmuir or is 39 steps/holds the standard for rock-climbing walls? Written just before the outbreak of WW1, The Thirty-Nine Steps is a classic, fast-moving thriller, and I thoroughly recommend it as a short read. It’s really GRIPPING. Free online.

    • Good morning, Helen. I doubt there’s a connection — but you never know! I’m sure there are grips behind his dialogue bubble or else it’d be almost impossible to make it to the top of the wall.

It sounds like an interesting story. Here’s the LINK if anyone’s interested in reading it. I’ll check it out this weekend and let you know if it HOLDS my attention. 🙂

      • Thanks for posting the link Mike, and of course, there is the Hitchcock movie version too. Very suspenseful. John Buchan as Lord Tweedsmuir was also Governor-General of Canada for a time.
And yes, the connection I suggested has a grip that is just a bit too tenuous!

  12. Not climbing the walls here today. Anagrams and cartoon answer were an easy solve. I’m with you, Mike, don’t like heights so this activity would definitely not be for me. Happy Thursday all.

  13. A quick solve today. The cost of everything is more than STEEP these days. I think of all those who can barely afford basic needs. Not only people but countries.
I live comfortably but I worry!

  14. Hi all,
Yesterday’s Jumble was a very quick solve. Today the word TWEAK gave me a bit of a problem, but I was able to blind solve the answer without looking first at the jumbled words. So I was glad about that. Anyway, thank you Angela for finding the perfect songs to match the Jumbles. I enjoy listening to the links to the music. On a different note (no pun intended), I would like to ask how Mike and Mig solve these puzzles a little after midnight. Personally, I like to sit down with my newspaper (anyone still using this?) in the afternoon to solve the jumble and cryptoquote. Is there an online app I can use instead? Just curious. Otherwise, can anyone on the west coast give me the winning lottery numbers for the day ahead of time? Thanks!😁

    • Hi Jane. There are various sites online that show the puzzle words earlier in the day. But at midnight, a lot of the newspapers publish the entire puzzle, cartoon included.. Of course, if you enjoy doing the puzzle in the afternoon, I’d suggest you not peek here…😉, because the words and the solve are posted right at midnight. The write ups usually come later. Mig is on the West Coast, so he’s able to do the puzzle at 9PM, which a lot of our readers enjoy doing. It’s all up to you. And thank you for the Shout Out. Be well, Jane, and stay safe out there…🧗🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Thank you so much Angela for answering my questions. Whenever the details of the cartoon were being discussed, I see how the online cartoon is much clearer than the one in the newspaper. And I also like how the online jumble keeps a timer, highlights the incorrect letters, shows all the letters for the solve, and tells you whether you are successful or not. That’s so cool. This is such a great option. Thank you for showing it to me! Have a good evening. Stay safe and kindest regards.🙋
P.S. – Loved the rock climbing emoji!

        • Hi Jane. You’re very welcome. I’ve never used the site interactively, but you make it sound like a lot of fun. I just use it to see all the details in the large cartoon. And yes, it’s so clear. There’s no way to fully appreciate Jeff’s art work from the paper alone…the big graphic allows you to pick up on all the hidden gems he’s noted for. But I like my paper for the color. And yes, it’s definitely a great option, and trust me, we’d be lost without the huge panel. I’ve already finished my post for the morning, and if the Giant’s don’t send my blood pressure through the roof, and I’m not out on the ledge, 😉 I’ll probably put it up at midnight. It’s a great puzzle! Wishing you a good evening too, Jane. Be well and stay safe out there…Pleasant dreams! 🧗🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️
