CARTOON ANSWER: WHEN EDISON INVENTED THE ALKALINE BATTERY IN 1901, PEOPLE SAID:

PR   IE   MER   WH   MOT   OO =  MORE POWER TO HIM

Good Morning, Everyone!          🔋 RESULT…AND BATTERY? 🔋

🎶 We want the POWER FOR THE PEOPLE..That’s all we ask in our country dear. The sick and the hungry are unable, protect them and those who may live in fear…We as the young wish to say in this song…God Bless great America, We give thanks to the old for acheiving their goal…It is now up to us and we know we must build up a trust…And we want the POWER FOR THE PEOPLE…That’s all we ask in our country dear…The sick and the hungry are unable…Protect them and those who may live in fear.. POWER FOR THE PEOPLE…POWER FOR THE PEOPLE…POWER FOR THE PEOPLE…🎶 “Power To The People” –  Curtis Mayfield 1974

Trying to be MODEST, the woman who stated that she would OPPOSE any man attempting to solve the contests’ RIDDLE, came forward and said that she would PREFER being assigned NUMBER One…and stood there for AWHILE as the judges mulled it over…

Good Morning, Everyone! Typical Sunday morning…Running late!! And out the door to make 7 o’clock Mass…A sentence, not in lieu of my Poem, just something until I get back to finish…See you in AWHILE!!! 🔋🙋🏻

🔋 Tom Edison was quite the man, a MODEST sort of bloke…
But since we’ve seen him recently, surprising as I woke.
Is this a sort of RIDDLE? Has Jumble made him key?
First May, then June and now again? Today makes NUMBER three!
I’ve nothing ‘gainst this noted guy, you won’t hear me OPPOSE,
His presence here, it’s quite alright…if he’s who Jumble chose.
He’s kind of like the Horseman, I think we’d all concur
Some characters show up a lot…I guess the Guys PREFER
A certain few distinctive men…after AWHILE we see…
Recurring characters they like…So Tom’s ok with me.
He isn’t Dick or Harry…or David, Jeff or Jim….
It’s Edison we have again. So…MORE POWER TO HIM! 🔋

May 13th, Mothers Day…TOM EDISON. Exactly a month ago, June 22nd...TOM EDISON!  Today…TOM EDISON! Hey..Who’s in CHARGE of this cast of characters anyway?  EnLIGHTen me, please! Ok… our words…I loved the anagrams, masterfully done, but I have to say,  as MODESTly as I can…whether they’re CURRENT words or not…I CONNECTed with them immediately…My friends, my early morning Jumble CONTACTS? It looks like RIDDLE slowed them down just a tad, and AWHILE…Well, took AWHILE! Ok, on to our cartoon…As I mentioned earlier, TOM has definitely LIT UP these pages! He’s like CURRENT events…Always there! Today we see him showing his newest INVENTION, the ALKALINE BATTERY to some adoring fans…Hey, wait a minute…I remember AL KALINE..He’s a Hall of Fame Baseball Player, who played his entire 22 year career with the Detroit Tigers! Remember him, Folks? Talk about staying POWER, right? …Oh, sorry..Where was I? Went off on a TANGENT there…Ok, let’s get to this solution…Having already INVENTED the Light Bulb and the Phonograph, just to mention two, TOM just took it with a grain of SALT..and BATTERY appeared! So WATT did people say? MORE POWER TO HIM!  Good one, David! No wonder you’re in CHARGE of these witty phrases!

Ok, eye candy…I’m going to keep it LIGHT today…The clothing? Where’d they shop at an OUTLET? I know I may seem to PLUG fashion a lot…But who looks Period perfect, and who looks like 1964…I’m just thinking it seems a little disCONNECTed, that’s all….So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! It’s been storming here in NYC for hours and hours on END…And it kept me up all night…Thank God we didn’t lose POWER, but I’m feeling DEAD already! I think I’ll take one of those POWER naps I’ve heard so much about..Hopefully it’ll RECHARGE me! 🔋🙋🏻

CARTOON ANSWER: THE HANDYMAN BOUGHT A NEW TRUCK SO HE COULD – –  –

DT   OU   LAN   ORO   =   TOOL AROUND

Good Morning, Everyone!                    🛠 The HANDYMAN Can! 🛠

🎶 If I had a HAMMER…I’d HAMMER  in the morning, I’d HAMMER in the evening, all over this land…I’d HAMMER out danger, I’d HAMMER out a warning, I’d HAMMER out love between my brothers and my sisters, all over this land, uh….🎶 “If I Had A Hammer” – Peter, Paul and Mary 1962

🛠 A quick GLANCE at this brand new truck, and we can see it’s sweet
The Handyman may look to OUTDO others that he’ll meet…
We learn that he’s excited, he seems to be quite pleased…
‘Cause now he’s got a lot of space, his tools they won’t be squeezed!
No more will he say “I FORGOT to bring the Allen wrench..”
‘Cause now he can fit everything that’s lying on his bench…
I see a Ball-peen Hammer, DIGIT-wise say 24 ounce ?
Perhaps a No-Slip handle so that there’s no chance of bounce?
I understand why he’s so taken with this truck he’s found…
There’s room for him to load up and just go and TOOL AROUND! 🛠

Today’s words, all Sweet Repeats, are easily recognizable, except for maybe OUTDO. Was there some DOUBT on your end, despite there being no “B”? After AWL, it is a silent “B”….Do our minds work in such mysterious ways that while trying to NAIL down one word, another enters our thoughts with such DRIVING force, that we just can’t PRY it loose? Yes, it happens…Ok, enough HAMMERing and jibber-jabbering…let’s move on to today’s solution…We’re in a Garage somewhere. Two HANDYMEN, are seen preparing to load a TRUCK with TOOLS. It’s the new purchase of the man on the right..And they’re both just DIEing to take it for a spin AROUND the neighborhood…You know, there’re looking to TOOL AROUND! Good one, David! You’ve NAILed it!

Ok, eye candy…We see a LADDER, A SLEDGEHAMMER, and a SHOVEL. No wait..it’s a SPADE..I may as well call a SPADE, a SPADE…There’s also a CIRCULAR SAW, the BALL-PEEN HAMMER, and a CROWBAR..TOOLS of the Trade, but I know I SAW something better…There’s three WRENCHES hanging on the wall, but they’re not MEASUREing up..And I do like Jeff’s dePICKtion of the mounted TOOL BOX’s open lid….But, it’s coming down to either the little smiley-faced Keychain, in our DRIVERS‘ hand, or the emblem shown on their hats…It’s a crossed WRENCH and SCREWDRIVER…I think I’ll go with the Emblem. It’s just SEAMs to HAMMER it home! Have a great day, Everyone! …and Just 🎶Keep on TRUCKIN’, Baby…🎶…Eddie Kendricks-1973 🛠🙋🏻

CARTOON ANSWER: WOULD THE WEATHER BE CLEAR FOR THEIR BALLOON FLIGHT? IT WAS – –  –

PRI   EUN   IA   HT   =   UP IN THE AIR

Good Morning, Everyone!             🎈 AIR OR THERE? 🎈

🎶 Would you like to ride in my beautiful BALLOON…Would you like to ride in my beautiful BALLOON? We could float among the stars together, you and I…For we can fly, we can fly…UP, UP AND AWAY…My beautiful, my beautiful BALLOON. The world’s a nicer place in my beautiful BALLOON…It wears a nicer face in my beautiful BALLOON…We can sing a song and sail along the silver sky…For we can fly, we can fly…..UP UP AND AWAY…My beautiful, my beautiful BALLOON…🎶 “Up, Up and Away” – The 5th Dimension 1967

🎈 Hot Air Ballooning…loved by some, while others shy away,
Exciting sure but just the same on ground a lot will stay.
Take me for one, I’ll make you PRIVY to what I would do…
I’d have that picnic basket with Champagne awaiting you.
My friends have gone and done this, some even did RERUNs,
I cheer them on and take some pics, as soon as they’ve begun.
They tease me as the INFANT, the one afraid to try…
“Do I look like a PHOTON, no”…Is oft my battle cry.
“I’m happy waiting down here, you can tease me I don’t care,
I’m having quite a happy time, while you’re UP IN THE AIR”!🎈

Looking at today’s words, my first thought was how often does PHOTON come UP in conversation? I took a PHOTO…ON the beach? Not the same, right? So, I’m thinking PHOTON may be the word to hold some of us UP today. PRIVY may cause a tic or two also…And there’s a possibility they’re both new words besides. I couldn’t find them in the records I have, but again, I use the JUST JUMBLE APP a lot, so for me, the words sometimes get blurred. Ok, on to our cartoon! Today we’re out in an open field, seeing two men discussing WEATHER or KNOT they should go UP in their HOT AIR BALLOON. Their apprehension stems from the fact that there are STORMS  showing in the atmosphere, and they’re using a WEATHER TRACKING website to guide them. So with our question asking if the WEATHER would be CLEAR? Our answer is UP IN THE AIR! Good one, David…So good in fact, that we’ve heard it before! Really! Last year we had two puzzles dealing with HOT AIR BALLOONS. One was in November…And the other, on July 8th, 2017?  The solution for that puzzle was: UP IN THE AIR! Talk about a Sweet Repeat! So I ask you, Jumble Guys..Has this ever happened before?

Ok eye candy…I’m running very late besides being a little under the WEATHER myself today…So, even though I like the detailed image of the WEATHER conditions on the iPad our balloonist is holding, and his hat is cute, with its little HOT AIR BALLOON emblem, the only thing lighting a FIRE UNDER me this morning? Would the BALLOON be FIRED UP like that while it was still on the ground? Someone enLIGHTEN me…please! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And don’t let anything BRING YOU DOWN...🎈🙋🏻

ZAUZB = ABUZZ

PRYEK = PERKY

WERHDS = SHREWD

DAYALM = MALADY

CARTOON ANSWER:

HE ANNOUNCED WHEN MOUNT RUSHMORE WOULD BE COMPLETED TO GIVE PEOPLE A – – –

UPESHAD = HEADS UP

Happy Thursday, everyone! Earlier in the week I wrote about how noticeable it was that David had been utilizing unique and somewhat obscure words to transform his puzzles from ordinary to extraodinary. That trend continued this morning with the addition of not one, but TWO new clue words in the lineup. ABUZZ and MALADY make their debut and they both had me stumped. MALADY was the more challenging anagram with Mr. Hoyt choosing to spell out DAY to throw us off track. In case you were wondering, a MALADY is an ailment or disease and not what you might call a woman from a noble family. 😉

The setting for today’s cartoon is Mount Rushmore and it’s a location that we’ve seen numerous times in the past. Upon first glance it appeared as though a gentleman was giving a speech to a group of reporters with the gigantic carved sculptures providing a backdrop. Reading the dialogue and sentence we discover that the man, who is not named but appears to be drawn in the likeness of Mount Rushmore’s sculptor Gutzon Borglum, is informing the press of the opening date for his creation.

You may have noticed in the cartoon that the opening date for the monument was given as October 31 (Halloween). Jumble cartoonist Jeff Knurek didn’t just randomly choose this date and a quick internet search revealed that it was in fact the official opening date back in 1941. Today, Mount Rushmore is open all year, seven days a week, with the exception of December 25th.

The final solution to the puzzle was a piece of cake. UP was given to us as the first two letters in the anagram leaving HEADS to be deciphered in a flash.

On a final note, Jumble wordsmith David L. Hoyt stopped by the website last night and left us a wonderful video clip in which he thanked us for all of the commentary and comments that we provide here at JumbleAnswer.com. I’ve included a link to the short clip so be sure to leave it a thumbs up and subscribe to his YouTube channel. Have a terrific Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

RHUSE = USHER

INTAG = GIANT

TUWALO = OUTLAW

TYSPAR = PASTRY

CARTOON ANSWER:

EXPLAINING THE RULES OF ARM WRESTLING IS SIMPLE BECAUSE IT’S – – –

SERGATOAPSY = EASY TO GRASP

Happy Wednesday, everyone! We’re at the midpoint of the week where we typically see the puzzle increase in difficulty but that wasn’t the case today. USHER was the only word that gave me a moment of hesitation and then it was clear sailing all the way through the rest of the clue words as well as the surprise answer.

The setting for today’s cartoon appears to be a living room where we see a father and son about to begin an arm wrestling match. Dad has quite a height advantage over his son so he’s kneeling on the floor to make the match as fair as possible. The dialogue between the characters is nothing more than a straightforward explanation of the rules for a proper match which junior seem’s to pick up on quickly. The action lines around the interlocked hands indicate that both competitors grips are tight and the match can get underway!

I noticed in the dialogue that the father says “you try to bring my wrist down to the table” when in fact the match is taking place on an ottoman (also known as a footrest or hassock). It’s very possible that dad said table to keep the rules as simple as possible so his son would have an easier time understanding them.

On a final note, the shading in the upper right corner of the cartoon was an interesting addition. I wasn’t quite sure of its purpose when I first noticed it but it appears to be the arch of a doorway. Perhaps we’re watching the arm wrestling match from another room in the house? We may never know but it didn’t have any impact on the overall solvability of the puzzle.

Have a wonderful Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🙂

NRTOF = FRONT

SUDEO = DOUSE

SLEDOC = CLOSED

BLLOGA = GLOBAL

CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN THE SPACE PROBE APPROACHED PLUTO, MISSION CONTROL SAID – – –

FRODOSOSGOA = SO FAR, SO GOOD

Happy Tuesday, Jumble friends! CLOSED is a new clue word that’s making its debut today, however; it was used before in the final answer way back on 11/18/15. BLLOGA was the only anagram to trip me up this morning with my eyes seeing BOLOGNA and OBLONG at first. Upon figuring it out, its use as a clue word was very fitting given the theme of todays cartoon.

The setting for our panel appears to be a conference room where a woman at a lectern with the NASA logo is giving a presentation. Her attire along with her rectangular framed glasses gave me the impression that she’s very intelligent. The addition of the smile on her face as well as her thumb up on her left hand lets us know that the news must be good.

Reading the dialogue and sentence we discover that she’s actually part of NASA’S Mission Control and she’s giving an update on a space probe that was sent to Pluto. Doing a little research, I discovered that the space probe that Jeff has drawn is based upon an actual probe launched by NASA named New Horizons. The spacecraft was launched on January 19, 2006 and performed a flyby of Pluto on July 14, 2015 which was 9 years later!

The final solution was a 4-word layout using a combination of 11-letters. It appeared tricky at first but noticing SO grouped neatly together gave me a great starting point. GOOD jumped out at me next leaving SO and FAR for the finish. Have a terrific Tuesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!

STYXI = SIXTY

THEBR = BERTH

NOBORC = BRONCO

GIJENL = JINGLE

CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN IT CAME TO SHOWING OFF HIS ABILITY, THE POOL PLAYER WAS A – – –

STBHOIG = BIG SHOT

Good Monday morning, Jumble friends! SIXTY was the only repeat clue word with the remaining three coming up as new. BERTH and JINGLE were great choices but nowhere near as difficult as BRONCO was. It took several minutes before it finally came into view making it my pick for the most difficult anagram of the day.

The setting for today’s cartoon appears to be some type of pool hall where we see a well dressed gentleman calling his shots. His appearance is atypical of the common Jumble characters that we see leading me to believe that Mr. Knurek drew this character in the likeness of a famous billiards player. The pool table is oversized and takes up approximately half of the overall panel space. The addition of the “VIP TABLE” sign and ropes blocking access to the table informs us that this is no ordinary game. Missing were the stanchions that the ropes attach to but they were unnecessary and would seem out of place due to the angle in which this piece was framed.

There were several items of detail that really made this drawing pop. The 8-ball was the only ball on the table that was clearly identified and appeared slightly larger than the other balls. It made you feel as though you were right at the end of the table getting ready to bear witness to this amazing trick shot. The combination of a small boutonnière and a pocket square were excellent garnishes that gave our pool champ a smart and dapper look, but moving my eyes slightly to the right I happened to notice the man using a small chalk block on the tip of his cue stick that I originally overlooked!

The final solution was no trouble at all and came instantly to mind. You didn’t need to be well versed in the intricacies of playing pool to decipher this one making it a great way to ease into this weeks gameplay.

A big THANK YOU to Angela for filling in during my summer vacation! I’m happy to be back and look forward to talking about the Jumble with all of you. Have a marvelous Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🎱

CACURE – ACCRUE

WREEPT – PEWTER

RFAMOL – FORMAL

CONOPU – COUPON

CARTOON ANSWER: TO GET THE SYMPHONY READY FOR ITS BIG PERFORMANCE, IT WOULD TAKE A- –

DOT EF CRE TER FO CN = “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT

Good Morning, Everyone!       🎼 I HEAR A SYMPHONY 🎼

🎶Whenever you’re near, I hear a SYMPHONY each time you speak to me
I hear a tender RHAPSODY of love, love….Baby, Baby, as you stand up holding me…Whispering how much you care,…A thousand VIOLINS fill the air now. Baby, Baby, don’t let this moment end…Keep standing close to me, Oo so close to me, Baby, Baby…I hear A SYMPHONY, a tender MELODY…Ah it goes on and on and on and on now…🎶 “ I Hear a Symphony” The Supremes 1966

🎼 I think we should DENOTE here, that pressure’s surely on,
Time has ACCRUEd and these musicians wait on that Baton…
A FORMAL Concert being planned, no COUPON holding two-fer
This is the one where gold and silver replaces the PEWTER
Each minute proves quite USEFUL, ‘cause they’ll come from every port…
True Patrons of the Arts to hear this “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT! 🎼

With the phrase being such a familiar one, that I’m atTUNEd to, today’s puzzle solution leapt right off the PAGE…I then looked at our words, and being all Sweet Repeats there was no chance of falling FLAT…So, on to our cartoon. Today we find ourselves at a BAND SHELL, where a SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA is seen practicing…But there’s been a MAJOR development…Some MINOR setbacks had occurred, and now the group must REED faster, and practice without a REST. Every MINUET is crucial…and they really need to be SHARP. Knowing that they’ll be a lot of SAX and VIOLINS involved, it’s only NATURAL that the CONDUCTOR feels that he’s in TREBLE. But he shouldn’t let it get him DOWN. As long as they all “pull together” and give it a “CONCERT-ED” EFFORT, this won’t be too hot to HANDEL at all! BOOM! Great pun, David! You always hit the right NOTE!

Ok, eye candy…Way in the BACH, the silhouetted figures? There’s two musicians…One holding what appears to be the STICK to play a WOOD BOX, and the other holding CYMBALS. I just got a little TRILL out of them….So, There you have it Folks, Done. Have a great day, Everyone…And why not make a LISZT today…and get out there and go for BAROQUE! 🎼🙋🏻

Good Morning, Everyone!            ⚾️PLAY BALL!⚾️

🎶Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat, and brand-new pair of shoes..You know I think it’s time to give this game a ride…Just to hit the ball and touch ’em all, a moment in the sun..It’s gone and you can tell that one goodbye!
Oh, put me in, Coach…I’m ready to play – today…Put me in, Coach..I’m ready to play- today…Look at me, I can be Centerfield..🎶 “Centerfield” –  John Fogerty 1985

⚾️The Boys of Summer start a game with hopes that they’ll do well

But also they are hoping that they won’t hear midnight’s bell…

Under MAIZE like colored flood lights they play a prime time game

And hope their CACHE of strength and will not go down  in flames…

They hear the shouts in STEREO while playing the outfield…

They run around for the long balls, their gloves acting like shields.

A bobbled ball can bring the STENCH of fans showing disdain…

And fans approval is a thing a player wants to gain…

So carefully they wait it out, and always aim to please…

But after 15 innings? How they long to CATCH SOME Z’S! ⚾️

So…I blinked at CACHE, and STEREO did not come through loud and clear! I stared at it until I HEARD the little voice in my head say “STEREO” in very MONOTONES! .Our cartoon…🎶Take me out to the ballgame…take me out to the crowd…🎶…And our Jumble Boys have done just that for us today! We see two OUTFIELDERS, on a BALL FIELD,  playing for the JUMBLE TEAM. And according to the old clock on the Scoreboard, it’s 1 AM! 1AM! No ONE, and I mean NO ONE wants to be at the BALL PARK at 1 AM! We see that the game went into EXTRA INNINGS, 6 extra to be exact, and the OUTFIELDERS’ CATCH finally ended the game. We see him saying how TIRED he is. Can you imagine how EXHAUSTED they all must be? So, with our question asking what was he ready to do? CATCH SOME Z’S! Now how cute is that? 💤💤’s! Good one, David!

So, eye candy…FIRST we have the ad for Jumble.com on the Scoreboard, SECOND, there’s the “J’s” on the players Jerseys and caps, THIRD…we see some silhouetted fans cheering. Nice touches, but not FAN FAVORITES. We see the 410 MARK on the back wall…but that’s a LONG SHOT...And  there are the MOON and STARS illuminating the night sky, but I’m not taking a SHINE  to it….So. you want to know what Jeff hit it OUT OF THE PARK with today? The OUTFIELDER’S sporting a FIVE  O‘CLOCK SHADOW! Already!!…Now that’s a HOME RUN! So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone! Get OUT there and SWING for the FENCES! ⚾️🎶

TIDEY – DIETY

TIGNL – GLINT

SYLOGS – GLOSSY

ANNETT – TENANT

CARTOON ANSWER: THE SHADY PHARMACEUTICAL EXECUTIVE’S PROFITS WERE – – –

EIT   GLI   GLOS   TNAN  =   ILL-GOTTEN GAINS

Good Morning, Everyone!         💊 A BITTER PILL TO SWALLOW 💊

🎶 Don’t go to bed, with no PRICE ON YOUR HEAD no, no (Don’t do it), no, no…
Don’t do the CRIME, if you can’t do the time (Don’t do it)…Keep your eye on the sparrow when the going gets narrow…(Don’t do it) Don’t do it. Don’t roll the dice if you can’t PAY THE PRICE, no, no (Don’t do it), don’t do it…Don’t run your feet down no dead end street, no, no (Don’t do it)…Just keep your eye on the sparrow when the going gets narrow….(Don’t do it) Don’t do it…🎶 “Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow”-Baretta’s Theme – Sammy Davis, Jr. 1976

💊 This subject’s sad and serious, it’s happened in “real life”
It’s caused heartache and hardship, a story full of strife…
You wonder how the DEITY will deal with such a man,
Devoid of GLINT but GLOSSY-prone to get all that he can.
A TENANT of the prisons, he now is serving time…
You wonder if the sentence really serves to fit the crime.
HIs greed and smug indifference has caused a lot of pain,
And now he gets no pleasure from what was ILL-GOTTEN GAINS 💊

So, we’ve made it through another week of Jumble Jewels. And it looks like we have another new word today, in DEITY. Our others? All Sweet Repeats, with TENANT, having appeared here as recently as June 13th. But with its’ double-double consonant offering, it may still be the stumper of the day…although DEITY has a good chance to hold that HIGHER POWER. Overall, a good way to close out our WORD WEEK..So, on to our solution. Today’s cartoon deals with a subject matter a lot more serious than what we’re used to. Having been headline news in the recent past, we’re brought into a COURTROOM, where the trial of the PHARMA BRO is taking place. Jeff’s likeness of him is uncanny. He’s somehow managed to capture the man’s arrogant look overshadowed by eyes devoid of any sense of humanity. I’m not even going to mention his name. You, our dear readers are free to look up “THE MOST HATED MAN IN AMERICA” should you care to. Bottom line here is that we’re WITNESSing a trial of this man, who MANAGED to GAIN a ton of MONEY and it was mostly GOTTEN because there were people ILL with AIDS, who needed the MEDICATIONS that his company provided…and he RAISED the PRICES drastically…Mostly…Because if that wasn’t enough, he also DOCTORED the books, and smugly TROLLed the Internet after it. And we see that the dialogue quotes him as saying he needed a new Yacht…The word INSOUCIANT may have been COINed just for him…So, with our question asking what his PROFITS were? They were ILLGOTTEN GAINS. Good one, David. Right on the MONEY

And eye candy? The looks of pure disgust on the faces of the JURY tells it all…There’s nothing sweet about this today, it’s just a BITTER PILL to swallow. So, There you have it, Folks, Done…Have a great day, Everyone…And I’ll leave you with this old proverb…”GREEDY eaters dig their graves with their teeth”. Chew on that, PHARMA BRO…💊🙋🏻
