  1. Good Morning, Everyone…🌿”WEED ‘EM AND REAP”🌿

🌿Today we see our LAWYER, dealing with the THATCH and weeds,

She spent so many hours cultivating…planting seeds…

A few EXOTIC vegetables…but mostly basic fare,

(And here’s where I REDUCE LAWMAN…he’s just not fitting here)…

It’s getting HOTTER as we speak, things aren’t going well…

The weeds got to poor Ava…and she THREW IN THE “TROWEL”🌿

🎶”Inch by inch, row by row, gonna make this GARDEN GROW…All it takes is a rake and a hoe and a piece of fertile ground; Inch by inch, row by row, Someone bless these seeds I sow; Someone warm them from below, ’til the rain comes tumbling down…”🎶 …”The Garden Song” – John Denver 1979  https://tinyurl.com/46tddd8z

Our puzzle, “Growing the Garden”. Takes hands and KNEES with DIRT and SEEDS!…And patience. A LOT of patience. So, LETTUCE DIG in!

Ok…Today, we find Ava GARDENER, a lawyer by trade, and her husband GREEN Autry. And I can really (PHOTO)-SYMPATHIZE with her…BEAN there, done that. Even though I’m now having good THYMES PLANTing VEGETABLES, at first, I really didn’t CARROT all. I’d just as soon go to the CORNer market and buy them… no FIG deal. But once I really comMINTed to doing it, I was truly aMAIZEd at how it GREW on me. When that first little CUTE-CUMBER came up…GROW and behold, I was thrilled! It brought me such inner PEAS! But it did take patience. The weeding drove me INTO THE GROUND, that’s for sure. As it’s doing to Ava today…Just looking at her face, we can see her frustration with all those WEEDS. She’s SOY disappointed. And I’m sure adding to the frustration is the fact that instead of giving her a hand, GREEN just TURNIPS and asks how it’s going… Oh, KALE no! What a RAW deal this is! No wonder she’s “done”..“giving up” and seen with the gloves off and tossing the trowel = She THREW IN THE “TROWEL”! https://tinyurl.com/4eb4n6pp  …And oh my GOURD, you can’t BEET this…SOW…Sadly, no cause for her to CELERYbrate, but I YAM UNDERstanding. TUBERd she didn’t stick with it though. I’m TILLING you, I really DIG my GARDEN now. It makes me SOW happy…from my head TOMATOES…And THISTLE do it for today…

SOW…There you have it Folks…Done. Have a good one. Be well, be kind, stay safe…And may PEAS ROMAINE with you all! 🌿🙋🏻‍♀️

    * Today’s solve is out of the Archives. https://tinyurl.com/ydtwuhna  And I figured if David could do it…then SOW could I. I tweaked the post I wrote back on July 30th, 2017, and re-PLANTED it here today…Between this heat, and fireworks still being blasted throughout my neighborhood, my head’s BEAN killing me…And I’m feeling just like Ava…So while I didn’t THROW IN THE TOWEL, I just dRAGged up this old post…🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🤷🏻‍♂️The LAWYER, nicknamed the “LAWMAN”, and known for his EXOTIC-looking THATCH of black hair, felt that the HOTTER the weather became, the more he wanted to REDUCE his workload…and finally THREW IN THE TOWEL by early August…🤷🏻‍♂️

📺 The LAWYER enjoyed old TV…the westerns ‘specially,
He liked seeing a LAWMAN bring a rustler to his knees…
REDUCE the man to ashes, looking like a pile of THATCH,
The stories not EXOTIC…but what the times then did hatch
And as the scenes grew HOTTER, he loved each and every scowl…
Til finally the varmint caved and just THREW IN THE TOWEL…📺

  4. 🤷🏻‍♀️Yes, the weeding brings one to her knees,
‘Specially if it hits 80 degrees,
Seems as much as you pull,
    The garden’s still full…
    Gardening isn’t always a breeze…🤷🏻‍♀️

🤦🏻‍♀️With the sun beating down, it’s intense,
    And a visor’s your only defense…
    You’re tired and hot,
    Weeds in every =&¥,!€ spot,
And the garden’s not even immense…🤦🏻‍♀️

🫑Midst the lettuce and peppers and peas,
    Ava’s hoping that she’ll catch a breeze…
But the air is so still,
    That it’s managed to kill…
    Her patience…as one easily sees…🫑

🔥Makes you wonder if it’s worth the time,
Just to have that fresh basil and thyme…
Yes while health may be wealth,
    Once the clock passes “twelfth”?…
    That heat index steadily climbs…🔥

    🤷🏻‍♀️Bottom line it’s a toss-up, I guess,
    Tending to onions and watercress…
    Vegetables free of cost,
    But the energy lost?…
Just might not be worth gardening’s stress! 🤷🏻‍♀️

  5. What a Funday Sunday ! Even though I couldn’t get it ! I got just three anagrams and had to look up LAWYER , EXOTIC , and THATCH ! Now the jumble with seventeen letters , had me very confused ! It was still fun ! So bring on Monday , start of a new week ! And Angela , your John Denver song choice was a good one ! I’ve always liked his music , and that one fit good ! And your past post that you shared again was really cool ! You had so many garden puns ! You’re so down to earth ! Thanks for a good one and rest up for a new start of the week Monday !!!!!!

  6. It took a minute or two to see the idiom, but I finally got it. The solution popped into my brain after solving the anagrams, but didn’t need to use the letters because I saw that the little trowel was being tossed.

Angela, you did a superb job of weaving all kinds of vegetables into today’s post. Yes, John Denver sang a very appropriate song, too. Stay cool in this summer heat and will see you tomorrow. Terry

  7. As I’ve said before, I get the Sunday paper delivered on Saturday so I had an early version of the Jumble with a quick solve of the anagrams and even the clever play on words in the cartoon use of trowel instead of towel.Wishing all a Happy Sunday! Chuck.

    • Yeah one of the more clever ones. I had trouble until a friend gave me a hint: what does a boxer when he gives up? Then it was fairly obvious (though my friend, new to Jumble, didn’t get “trowel” lol). And you do see her throwing the trowel! That is clever! As I tell new folks to Jumble, study the cartoon carefully!

  8. We tend to fixate over weeds

    With their nasty, nefarious deeds

    So pluck just a few

    Which will very likely do

    To satisfy your gardening needs.

If you make it a daily task

Then amid your blooms you can bask

    With weeds kept in check

And not up to your neck

There! What more could you ask?

  9. Really cute play on words in today’s puzzle. Happy Sunday all! Betty

  10. LAWYER took a bit to solve. Blind solve for the answer. Overall, a cute puzzle.
