In light of the fact that Mr Albini*1 a beloved music producer, tragically passed away on May 7th, today I won’t be offering my usual commentary. Out of respect for him, and for Jeff, no puns, no joking,…And while this may not be for everyone, there’s a plethora of interesting reading and listening that goes along with today’s story, so I’ll post all the links together at the end for anyone who cares to indulge…
Today…A poker game, amongst friends, taking place in a recording studio. Note the microphone and mixing console in the background. Seated left to right: Jeff, in the 40th Anniversary Poi Dog T-shirt, Mr Albini, Dave Grohl,*2 the drummer for Nirvana from 1990 to ‘94, and John Robb,*3 an English musician and journalist. The connections?…Mr Albini produced music for a Poi Dog member. He produced Nirvana’s “In Utero” album…note his T-shirt. He also produced for John. And with his passing, on May 9th, both men paid tribute to their colleague…Dave dedicated the song “My Hero”*4 to him at a Foo Fighters concert, and John penned a moving article*5…
And as for the poker connection…In addition to being a renowned music producer, Mr Albini was also a professional poker player, having won two WSOP bracelets. So that Royal Flush? Yes, rare…just as Mr Albini was. And the irony, Mr Albini refused to accept any royalties during his music career….something rarer indeed…Having had such a rich, fulfilling life, he was one of those amazingly generous people that one believed could live forever…But unfortunately fate dealt him a lousy hand…A heart attack at the age of 61 should never have been in the cards…

Hello ! Great start of a new week Monday ! I’m really disappointed in myself for not sticking to my thoughts on CARGO ! I pushed myself too fast , and I should’ve gotten it ! And that was my only negative ! The rest were right there ! The jumble was definitely HANDS DOWN ! With cards and a Royal Flush in poker , what a great start of the week ! One of the benefits of this post is the excellent information Angela imparts to her audience…and today was no exception. No, am not familiar with Mr. Albini, but thanks for an interesting post outlining his achievements.
