  1. I see all the hallmarks of effective advertising when I look at Captain Bob’s sign. The most notable feature was the size — it’s massive! And the way it’s positioned on the waterfront ensures that it’ll be visible from both land and sea. It also had a snappy catchphrase, some directions and a memorable graphic of an angler with a fish on the line. The only problem was the use of cursive writing. Sure it’s sofishticated and classy, but it’s no longer prioritized in schools so it comes off as obsolete and dated. If you think that sounds crazy, have a look at the advertisements in your magazines or on television and let me know what you find!

    The wait for new clue words will have to continue for another day. We did get two new anagrams though. Both MLYOD and JNUIER made their way into the puzzle, but it was BLINEB that had me reely confused. Fortunately, the double letter trick of combining similar letters proved effective after having let me down just 24 hours prior.

    It looks like Bob and his better half are quite pleased with the way that their sign turned out. He’s giving it a thumbs up and she’s grinning from ear to ear. She even has her cell phone out to snap a few pictures! In the background is Jeff’s signature sinking sailboat along with another boat that’s hauling a dragnet. My favorite detail was the small wave gently breaking on the tip of the jetty.

    The final solve was an anagram consisting of eight letters. The vowel and consonant counts were both evenly split at four. The visual clues made REEL a cinch to spot, and EM and IN fell neatly into place to seal the deal. My only nitpick is that EM should have had an apostrophe in front to indicate that the letters weren’t spoken. Maybe the guys left it out because they didn’t want the solution to be any easier than it already was. Have a terrific Tuesday, and keep Jumbling!

    • I did notice the missing apostrophe online, but this prompted me to check both my papers, and it’s present in both of my print versions.

      • The online version that we use always leaves them out. I had a conversation about it with someone just the other night. We have to see what Caroline says about her paper…Our papers always mirror one another…🙋🏻‍♀️…Our meaning you and I…

      • Steve…Here’s an example. The puzzle of 11/19. The solve was MOM’S THE WORD…but you’ll see that there’s no apostrophe included here either…For some reason, they never print one! I’m used to it by now, but someone new to it might have a hard time figuring it out…🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Nothing too fishy today. But injure got my attention hook, line and sinker. I am new to your site and commented yesterday as KCole but reel-ized that I have an account as oldomaha whichis a keeper. My mother got me hooked on the Jumble which she loved to do until the day she passed at 93. Now it’s the first catch of the day (5:30 a.m. CST) at my desk.

  5. Good Monday morning. Oh wait, today is Tuesday. That should explain the difficulty of today’s jumble. This was a repeat of yesterday even to the cartoon answer. Interesting facts about fishing, thanks Mike. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

  6. Hi Everyone – I didn’t have a problem doing the puzzle last night though the online one I was looking at was missing the apostrophe before Em. Because of this I learned that Em is actually a word.

    • Hi Caroline. The online version always leaves off punctuation like that. I don’t know why though, because it can make it difficult to get the solve. (And I think ‘EM originated in Brooklyn! Dese, Dem, Dose…and ‘Em)! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

    • You’re correct that EM is a word, but it needed the apostrophe in order to be correct in this particular case. Nice CATCH, Caroline! 🙂

  7. Another quick solve,third day in a row for me,making it an easy week for me so far.Having been an avid golfer,playing every day,so as a result,I have never gone fishing,not even once.I’m sure the fishermen would say it was my loss.

    • Good morning again. Ah Chuck you don’t know what fun you missed especially on the company fishing trips. The guys use to have a pool on how long it took me to chum for the fish. Once we didn’t even leave the dock and I threw up. Still went and most times had a good time. Take care.

      I did a quick dive into the matter and was surprised to find that more Americans fish than play golf (21 million) and tennis (13 million) combined!

    He tried to EXERT botany skills…but everything just died…
    He dabbled here and there with things, he’d NIBBLE at so much,
    Yet everything he failed at…he just lacked the magic touch…
    He tried his hand at fishing…but again to his chagrin…
    The only thing he caught? A cold…he couldn’t REEL ‘EM IN! 🤦🏻‍♂️

  11. Hi all – No problem with the words or answer today. Nice to see the usual sinking sailboat return in the distance.

    Fishing has been in the news here lately. The commercial Dungeness Crab season finally opened, unfortunately missing the traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, but better late than never. And there was a story about protecting undersized Pismo clams along the California coast. The wardens in one case collected enough illegally taken clams to fill a pickup truck bed (and returned them to the ocean.) The most interesting thing to me was that to gather clams, you need a fishing license and you also need to be carrying a special measuring instrument that reminded me of the unique devices used in the sport of curling and for measuring the curvature of hockey sticks (photo in the following link):
