XTREE = EXERT
VAHNE = HAVEN
HTORYP = TROPHY
MYSLOB = SYMBOL
CARTOON ANSWER:
THEIR BUSINESS WAS ON A STREET WITH MANY SHOPS AND ANOTHER WAS OPENING —
XETENTRSO = NEXT “STORE”
Happy Tuesday morning everyone! The clue words were excellent choices with EXERT being the only one that gave itself up upon first glance. TROPHY took the longest and would be my pick for the most difficult anagram to decipher. Moving on to the cartoon, I noticed the quotes around the second word and made no attempt on a blind solve. Writing out my letters, NEXT popped out like a sore thumb, most likely because the letters were grouped so close together. That left me with a quick solve for STORE and the finish. The store names were cute, but it was the detail in NICE SLICES that made the cartoon really interesting. Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

Good morning. Today’s puzzle was fun. Took a couple of extra minutes for trophy and symbol. The cartoon answer was an instant solve after assembling the letters. Your picture of one store really looks great compared to the paper. It’s so sharp. It really makes you appreciate the artist. Till tomorrow stay well.
Wouldn’t it be great if the paper published the cartoon in full size?! I think people would appreciate it more if the could actually SEE all the great detail that Jeff adds. Have a wonderful day, Paul!
Easy solve again today….
Could not get SYMBOL the rest snap groaned real loud. Well done Jeff
Good puzzle today. Had no problem with the clue words or cartoon. Your picture was better than the one in my paper, Mike. Couldn’t see all the detail. Oddly enough the puzzle in my paper I is in color during the week and in black and white on Sunday. Don’t know why. Editorial decision I guess. Have a happy day everyone.
At least the women weren’t in purple today, and they threw in a brunette to go with the obligatory blond.
Hey, What’s up? The woman on the left has a purple shirt with a lilac collar, the one on the right has a lilac shirt with a purple collar. The record stands. Just sayin’.
And the Oven Lovin sign was purple as well! 😮
PLUMmel Vision
I don’t know from colors; they just didn’t look purple I’ve seen lately, more reddish.
Good to hear from you; what’s up indeed.
It must be the ink in your paper, because it’s def purple. Whoever this man is, he’s obsessed with the color.
ORCHID you not! 🙋🏻
Steve, Here’s some puns for the Purple obsessed cartoonist:
LAVENDER heard?
VIOLET my guard down
Don’t mean to conFUCHSIA
In they come, INDIGO. And my runner up after PLUMmel vision….
AMETHYST ahead of you!
(Magenta….I got nothin’).
MIKE: If I send you the color pic of the women, could you post it? I’ve tried, but I’m not getting the picture transfer right. I’d hate to see you know like my nephew’s christening show up here… 🙋🏻
Glad to see you’re still in good form pun-wise! I got nuttin’.
I gotta believe. 🙏🏻 In Hank We Trust 🙏🏻 ❤️ What a difference 4 minutes can make. Wish me luck.
I can’t attach a photo to the messages on the board. I can only add photos to a WP blog post. 😔
Hey Mike. Ok. That’s what I thought I read too. I got it into a JPG file and I wanted to post the link, but like I said, the way my lucks been going the last few days, it might’ve been my nephews Christening pictures! Thanks! 🙋🏻
There must be a way though. I’m going to play around with it. The Rangers are 💔breaking my heart. Maybe they were out partying with Matt Harvey and just called in sick!
It’ll be great if you can find a way! 👍🏻
I know right? I had the JPG file sitting right in the post box, but I got gun shy! But Mike, if you can post a pic when you’re doing the blog post, couldn’t you put the colored one in? The pics you put in your blog, do you create a JPG for them?
I can post a photo only if I do a blog post (which goes to all the subscribers) on the email list. Here in the comments section, I can’t add a photo. I hope I’m explaining it correctly
Yes, you are. It’s me that’s not saying it right. When you post a pic to your morning blog, I’m assuming you’re taking it from the on line newspaper. Along the same line could you post the pic from the on line paper that prints in color?
I can but it’s not as clear and sharp as the B&W version, as you probably know. If there’s purple tomorrow, I’ll make a point of doing so.
You’re right, it’s not. It’s no big deal, it just looks so good in color. And the purple thing is just a running gag since Jeff said he doesn’t know who did the coloring. And I apologize, I didn’t realize how late it was. And it’s a school night for you! I’m just watching Rangers and Mets and didn’t realize the time. Good night to you as yours! 🙋🏻
Oh no problem. I’m sneaking in the Sox and reading comics… 😋
Red Sox, Rangers, Mets….They’re all killing us! LOL. THe other night I stayed up and watched that insane Yankee game. And for one brief moment, I wished I were a Yankee fan. I took a pill, I quickly recovered. But for that one moment…..
Don’t be lulled into their trap! LOL. It was a great game that I only wish happened on a Fri/Sat so I could have stayed up and watched.
LOL. LOL. HA! Yep. The old moth to the flame! It was a great game. And you’re right, being a Sunday night, a lot of people missed it. It’s just amazing how lucky they are tho. They pull off these major coups, a lot of records broken. Not easy for us Met fans. We’re always the other team. You should see our papers. No matter what we do, the Yankee news dominates. Ah, Death, Taxes…💔 The Mets and Rangers breaking your heart…The Holy Trinity.
Hi Angela. Ya shoulda bin rootin’ for the TEXAS Rangers! 😥 That Ottawa defenseman just too good, and Lundquvist wasn’t great enough.
Meanwhile our SF Giants are doing their best to make the Mets feel better.
My wife wasn’t feeling well, but recovered by 4 PM, so I did watch hockey. When she’s sick, my interest in sports just goes out the window; it feels so trivial. Then she recovers, and it’s like, “Oh yeah, Stanley Cup Playoffs!”
I’m glad you’re back – I was just about to post
“Goodnight Mrs. Calabash, wherever you are.”
Hey, 💔 I said I wouldn’t cry, but I did. Cried right into that coconut water.
Wow, that’s strange! Have a great day. 🙂
Symbol was hardest for me; I saw answer but did not think it made sense. Our paper has small cartoon and details are hard to see. Enjoy the day!🌞
You as well, Sue! 😀
Tough for me today; over 9 minutes.
“X-TREE, X-TREE, read all about it”
MYSLOB – What my wife calls me.
Hardest for me – THORPY, runs like Jim (Thorpe)?, PYTHOR, new Marvel comic snake-man?, TROPHY, oy!
Enjoy the day, all.
Symbol was the tough word for me, too, and took a lot of jumbling. Yes, it would be great to have a full size cartoon. I wonder how many papers are able to do that.
Judging from the size of the regular cartoon strips, not many. I was recently looking at a paper saved from the 1980’s and was amazed at how HUGH the comics used to be, compared to now.
Did they have Sudoku in the 80’s newspapers? Or any other games?
I didn’t look specifically, but I think it was pretty much Jumble and crosswords. Sudoku is more recent; in fact, from Wikipedia:
“In the United States, the first newspaper to publish a Sudoku puzzle by Wayne Gould was The Conway Daily Sun (New Hampshire), in 2004.”
Yet another NH reference!
I’m starting to lose track…
Hi Mike & all my fellow Jumble buddies, not a fast solve for me today. Mike, I used self-jumble 4 times for TROPHY and a record 15 times for SYMBOL. I’m glad you refer to that technique frequently because in the long list I have made of techniques you have taught us, I like that one and ‘fresh eyes” the most. Cartoon solve was easy. Thanks for that sharp picture. What a contrast to what we see in the paper!
Enjoy your Tuesday! See you tomorrow.
David did a great job jumbling the letters today, Lelia! Like I said, I only saw EXERT right off the bat and the rest had me stumped. Take care and Jerry too! 😊
