  1. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well….
🎾 THEY CALL ME ACE…BECAUSE YOU JUST GOT SERVED..🎾

🎶 You’re taking me to the POINT OF NO RETURN…Hey, hey, hey (Uh uh uh)…You’re taking me to the POINT OF NO RETURN…🎶 “Point of No Return” – Exposé 1985

🎾 Just like a fresh, sweet PASTRY, or FENNEL with its bite,
This girl of ours was on a roll…assured she’d win this fight…
She bet her bottom DOLLAR, she knew that she had game,
No MISFIT she, she can UNWIND…she’s done good by her name
The COSMOS shed it’s light on her, opponent felt the burn…
She won, hands down and she served up the POINT OF NO RETURN! 🎾

So I’m thinking that if you’ve never played the game, and/or are just unfamiliar with Tennis terms, this isn’t going to be a piece of cake. As with any sport, there’s always certain words and phrases that go along with it, and Ace and POINT come into PLAY here today…So right from the door, I’ll say that if you’ve failed to SCORE with today’s solve? Fear NET…I mean not…it’s not a RACKET…it’s just David really SERVING up a good one this morning…

With only one Repeat Anagram LNEENF, from the puzzle of March 31st, ‘19, today we’re seeing some exceptional scrambles on all old favorites. And with Sunday words always seeming to be a bit more of a CHALLENGE, I’ll let you know that the Early Birds FAULTED a tad on FENNEL and COSMOS, which in all fairness, aren’t two of the most commonly used words. I know I heard Flannel and Smooch being LOBbed around. And as for the solve? Well, as I mentioned above, if you didn’t get the idiom right off the bat, and PLAYED with the 2-two letter words? I think you may have SET yourself up for a hard time.

Ok, so…Today we find ourselves on a Tennis Court, at the end of a match. And by the looks of the scoreboard, we can see that our two opponents, Kent, at left, who I’ll call Kathy, and King, at right, who I’ll call ROBIN…(c’mon did you really think I’d call her Billie Jean)? weren’t evenly MATCHed today. Robin ACED (ACE – A ball that is served so well the opponent cannot touch it with their racquet) Kathy out, and she just couldn’t recover. There was just no coming back for her, no RETURNing that ball… It was definitely the POINT OF NO RETURN. OPEN and shut case…But even though the Jumble’s given us many a Tennis puzzle throughout the years, I do think David took a little ADVANTAGE of us today…and it was a DEEP SHOT to a lot of our egos…

And the eye candy? Kathy’s shirt SPORTs a tiny logo, which I first thought to be Nike’s, but now I’m thinking not. I’d hate to make a bad CALL on it, and have it be DEFAULT of shoddy researching, so I’ll leave it up to any of you to possibly identify it. First come, FIRST SERVE. And I like how Jeff made a POINT of showing a SINGLE bead of sweat on each of our girls. But that’s really the only things I can glean from the FRAME SHOT… I guess maybe you’ve seen one Tennis cartoon…you’ve seen them ALL…

So…There you have it, Folks…Done. Have a good one…Be well, and stay safe out there. Oh, and before I bid you all goodBYE, I should mention that in Tennis, winning or losing a set 6-0 is known colloquially as a BAGEL, the shape of the zero being reminiscent of the round shape of a bagel. And no LOVEs, I’m NET kidding…you know I’d never deSEED you guys…🎾🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🍰 Looking to UNWIND after a long day at the PASTRY shop trying to earn an extra DOLLAR or two, he felt a bit like a MISFIT when he stopped at the market and couldn’t identify the FENNEL his wife asked for…and hoped the COSMOS would align to give him a helping hand, before fatigued as he was, he’d reach the POINT OF NO RETURN…🍰

🙇🏻‍♂️ They told him to try FENNEL, he’d like it’s licorice taste,
But he said “DOLLARs to Donuts, it’ll only go to waste…
I’d rather eat the PASTRY, I’m much more into sweets,
And I don’t feel a MISFIT for choosing my own treats…
I came today to UNWIND, and like COSMOS I stay straight,
I only eat the things I like…so you can keep your bait…
I’ll take a pass on Fennel…guaranteed that I’d get heartburn
Bring on the cakes and I’ll enjoy my POINT OF NO RETURN…” 🙇🏻‍♂️

  3. The anagrams and solution were a struggle, but I had to smile at how perfectly the answer fit the sentence. It helped to know what ace means in tennis. I wrote down possible 2-letter words and finally spotted Return.
The tennis ball being knocked around in the voting box was very funny and “Fear NET” was my favorite pun today. Wishing all a great day.

    • Good Morning, Caroline, I agree. The solve was definitely worth the struggle, it’s a very clever one. And I’m glad you didn’t FEAR the NET outcome! 😉 Enjoy your day…Be well and stay safe out there…🎾🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Anagrams came quickly, but even having tried tennis a long time ago,the multiple letters did me in for the cartoon solution. We survived a trip to tend the twins yesterday, and are enjoying the Masters golf on TV.Speaking of the Masters,in 2007, my son and I got “Patron” badges from an Atlanta banker, and got to attend all 4 rounds of that Zach Johnson victory over Tiger Woods.A memory like no other.

    • Good Morning, Professor. Great memory for a golf lover! Enjoy your day, and be safe out there. 🎾🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Hi all – The only word that took a couple of tries was UNWIND because I tried IN as a prefix instead of the usual UN (and we surely exhausted the subject of FENNEL recently.) I had no idea about the answer, but I then saw POINT in the letters which gave the clever pun.

    Good wishes to everyone.

“The physicists expected to UNWIND after the seminar on the COSMOS with an elegant brunch, but the MISFIT caterer had only provided each of them with a FENNEL PASTRY costing less than a DOLLAR.”

  6. No problem with the anagrams but had to get out paper and pencil to figure out the cartoon answer. All in all it was a successful day. Hope all of you have a good one.

  7. Not much of a tennis player but I do know what ACE means….I still couldn’t solve it, it’s like the ball went over my head and hit the judge sitting up in that little lifeguard chair.
PASTRY was my only hard word.
Dustin Johnson is trying to ace it today at Augusta. Competition is stiff but he still looks good.
    See y’all tomorrow!

  8. Good afternoon. Got a little sidetracked this morning. Not much trouble with the words but knowing nothing about tennis had me stomped for quite some time. I went back to it three times before I finally returned the serve I had up and to for the two letter words which seemed forever. First time I heard that group or the song Angela. Hey I’m moving up,I now move back and forth from the 50s to the 70s in my car. Not that often but at times I do search. The downside is that if I haven’t heard it before I’ll skip over the station. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
