Jumble Answers for 01/23/2020

Happy Thursday everyone. Just look at the luscious mane on that guy. It looks like the miracles of science really came through for him! For most other men it’s a completely different story. Approximately 25% of the male population start losing their hair at some point during their twenties. The tale of “Baldilocks and the Three Hairs” continues for another 15-20 years before your untamed curls vanish into thin hair. You could visit your Doctor and ask for some pills or maybe even take a stroll to your local drugstore and buy some foam to squirt on your scalp. The fact of the matter is that you’re only delaying the inevitable. And you have no one to thank other than good old mom and dad. Genetics truly is a hairy thing!

There weren’t any new clue words this morning but all of the anagrams are coming up as such. I managed to work through them at a pretty good clip up until I bumped into UNTOLD. At first I tried to make words beginning or ending with OUT, but all that did was shave precious seconds off my solve time. The TO at the front of the layout was so obvious that I didn’t think of trying it until I had finished my wild-goose chase. With all of that said, it’s now quite obvious that it’ll be my pick for today’s hardest word. All of the solutions have shown up over the past three or so years with SHAKY being the oldest and MISFIT the most recent. FLOOR and UNTOLD both landed somewhere in the middle to round off today’s quartet.

This dude is so excited — and I couldn’t be happier for him! He’s now free to stow away the trucker-style hat that he’s been using to hide his solar panel for the past however many years. And the missus most certainly agrees with his incredible transformation. Just look at the smile on her face as she runs her hand through those freshly-planted folliciles. Sinfully delicious! My favorite detail had to be the look on his face though. I really enjoyed how Jeff had the pupils at the top of his eyes so that he could stare at the party going on up there. It looks like this guy just found a new hobby!

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 12-letters. I thought the layout did a fine job of hiding the solution contained within. The visual clue of the HAT along with HA being so close together really got the bald rolling. TO was also paired neatly together so I decided that it’d make for a dandy 2-letter word. The remaining F’s gave me OFF and YOU was right there for the finish. The payoff was clever and definitely deserved a chuckle or two. Here’s hoping tomorrow’s game doesn’t have me pulling my own hair out.  Best for a terrific Thursday!

Good Morning, Everyone! Have a great day…and keep on PLUGging! 💇🏻‍♂️🙋🏻‍♀️

🎶 HATS OFF to Larry it may sound cruel…But you laughed at me when you said we were through…You told me lies, now it’s your turn to cry cry cry…Now that Larry said goodbye to you…🎶 “Hats Off to Larry” 1960 https://tinyurl.com/wktncdd

💇🏻‍♂️ Some people can be boorish and they criticize a man,
Whose loss of hair – which not his fault…he’d stop it if he can…
Ones’ hands a little SHAKY as you lift hair off the FLOOR,
And UNTOLD curses spoken watching hair that is no more
Some feel like they’re a MISFIT, which in no way is the case,
A bald man’s sexy all the same…there is no fall from grace…
Yet some are just not happy, so instead opt for transplants,
And for these men it may serve well…virility it grants…
To me it never mattered..but I guess to today’s two…
It meant a lot, and so I say…”Well here’s HATS OFF TO YOU”! 💇🏻‍♂️

  2. Walking gingerly across the creaky FLOOR, his footsteps SHAKY, he dreaded the day he became involved with this MISFIT group and their UNTOLD mystery tours…after today he was definitely telling them…”HATS OFF TO YOU, but I’m outta here”! 🙅🏻‍♂️ 🙋🏻‍♀️

🧢 He found himself down on the FLOOR, UNTOLD how it occurred,
He sat a little SHAKY still…his vision somewhat blurred…
And feeling like a MISFIT now, and unsure what to do…
He shook his head, said to himself…”I guess HATS OFF TO YOU” 🧢

  3. Good morning. Now today was a double treat. Not only was the cartoon answer clever but I got a good laugh with Angela’s song choice. Don’t think you could find a better choice so if I wore a hat I’d definitely take it off to you Angela. The words for me so far this week have been a little challenging, not all instant reads which makes it more interesting. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Thank you…I’d take mine off to you too. Have a good one! 🧢🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Good morning again. The carpenter did such a SHAKY job with UNTOLD errors in laying the FLOOR that he was now labeled as the MISFIT carpenter. HATS OFF TO YOU for the new name. Take care.

  5. The answer wasn’t easy for me. I had to write out possible two, three and four letter words. I can’t recall if answers are ever in quotes, but I think it would have helped if this one was. Angela, I don’t know how many decades it’s been since I heard that song but I really enjoyed it .

    • Good Morning, Caroline. Thanks…I’m enjoying it too, I’m still playing it…it’s such a catchy tune! You know, in my paper you can hardly make out the guys hat in his hand. It’s brown against his blue pants. But since I usually do the solve from the cartoon, and not the letters, I use the on-line version to see the big picture, and the hat hit me right away. And since I’m familiar with the idiom, it just all fell into place. The quotes…You have me thinking now…Where do you think they should go? 🧢🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Around the whole answer since she’s talking directly to him. But I don’t know if David does that.

        • Hi Caroline, There have been answers fully in quotes, but that’s when the entire thing was a play on words. I don’t think this would qualify. But that’s just my opinion. Maybe when the others write in they’ll share their thoughts…It’s still early! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

      • I guess it would be confusing to use quotes to show someone is speaking because the Jumble uses them, as you say, to indicate something else.

        • Yes, Caroline. that’s the rub. I leafed back from today, and the puzzle of 12/28 https://tinyurl.com/se2zajj depicted an author speaking with his editor. She had asked when his book would be done, and he answered her…IT WON’T BE LONG, which is a statement just as the wife’s is today. No quotes…(And the question today does read…She Said)…In the Wonderful World of Jumble, that Quotation Trepidation only comes into play (no pun intended) when there’s a play on words. But I definitely see your point HAIR! And it made for a good exchange of ideas. Thank you! 👍🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Mike. Good Morning. “Baldilocks and the Three Hairs”? 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! HAIR YE! 😂🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Like Caroline, I had to write out the cartoon answer. I didn’t even realize that he had a hat in his right hand as it’s barely visible in my paper either and I didn’t go on line. However, I was able to figure it out so that’s a victory for today. Happy Thursday to all.

    • Hi Betty. I think that’s why the solve seems so hard at times…because the myriad clues that are in the cartoon are very hard to see. And most times they’re a dead giveaway. I love the cartoon in my paper, especially that it’s in color… But there’s no way I’d see all the little gems if I didn’t look on-line. Happy Thursday to you too, Betty! 🧢🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. Hi all – Got the words, but aPART from that, the answer took awhile. (I got UNTOLD without having to MULLET over very long by trying UN at the beginning which often works for me.) I saw OUT or YOU for the three letter word and THAT in the letters, but then saw OFF and TO and the rest followed.

Mike, I do have someone to thank other than good old mom and dad. My grandfather bequeathed me his hairline (and earlobes), but as I’ve said before, he was such a cool guy it just makes me smile.

Angela, we’re on a Del Shannon (rock and) roll just days after talking about him and Dion!

    Have a great day, everyone!

“The carpenter’s new apprentice so badly MISFIT the SHAKY FLOOR joists that it caused UNTOLD extra expense and headaches.”
