CARTOON ANSWER:

THE LANDLORD REDUCED THE YOUNG COUPLES RENT, SAYING IT WAS THE —

SCOADOEDEULL = “LEASE” SHE COULD DO

Good morning and happy Friday!!!  The weekend is so close and our family has some fun things planned so let’s get right to business.  GENDER was the only clue word to give me some hesitation today and would be my pick for the most difficult anagram.  I don’t recall seeing it in a Jumble before so it was a refreshing addition by Mr. Hoyt.  The cartoon was more on the serious side featuring a very happy couple getting ready to sign a lease agreement with their new landlady.  She made the couple a very generous offer of half off the rent because the male half is in the military and her husband is a veteran.  The expecting couple will be able to afford to dwell well in the spacious abode with it’s large front window and cozy fireplace.  After reading the sentence, and with SHE being given to us, COULD DO instantly came to mind.  Writing out my letters, LEASE was a quick solve for the finish leaving this feel good cartoon completed.  Have a fantastic Friday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  🙂

PROAJSPDWED = JAWS DROPPED

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday!  The clue words were duck soup for me this morning so I’ll take a pass at picking the most difficult one.  Hopefully tomorrow’s puzzle will be a real challenge and I’ll pick two.  Moving forward to the cartoon, it was an instant solve as well after the “great white shark” giveaway in the sentence.  The cartoon was well drawn with my favorite detail being the light from the movie projector being cast over the audience.  Jeff nailed the shading in such a way that the drawing actually felt animated.  The 70’s vibe was definitely captured with the hairstyles and mustaches as well as the word disco on the shirt of the man in the front row.  Is that a young Rob Reiner in the middle row to the far right?  It sure looks like him to me.  Have an out of sight Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN THE JUMBLE CREATORS REALIZED THEY’D FORGOTTEN TO MAKE A PUZZLE, THEY —

BLDMCAERS = SCRAMBLED

Good morning and happy Wednesday my friends!  FALLEN was the most difficult anagram for me to decipher as I thought it was FLANNEL at first and couldn’t seem to get it out of my head.  After a minute of staring at it, I was able to pull through and make my way to the cartoon.  Jumble enthusiasts would immediately recognize the two caricatures in today’s cartoon as David Hoyt and Jeff Knurek who are the current creative team behind our beloved puzzle.  David can be seen frantically searching his desktop computer for a missing puzzle while Jeff searches for his misplaced stylus which he believes is somewhere in the mountain of trash beneath his desk.  Jeff’s two dogs (Gizmo and Fifi) can be seen looking on at all the commotion and probably think he’s on the floor for some playtime.  Jeff added a few fun details to his cartoon including his Poi shirt as well as a crumpled up section of the comics page in the trash identifiable by the Family Circus panel with its trademark circular border.  The answer to this puzzle was a quick solve after writing out the clue letters and a fitting solution to such a chaotic scene.  Have a wonderful Wednesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  🙂

CLORSL = SCROLL

CARTOON ANSWER:

THE LAUNDROMAT THAT INSTALLED EXERCISE EQUIPMENT FEATURED—

SCPIENYSCL = SPIN CYCLES

Good Tuesday morning everyone!  The clue word choices were definitely more challenging than yesterday’s lineup, but they were still on the easier side.  SCROLL would be my pick for the most challenging word to decipher if I was forced to pick just one.  Moving along to the cartoon, we arrive at a laundromat that has washing machines and a folding table along with the peculiar addition of 3 stationary bicycles.  Spin cycle came to mind immediately and I wrote out the letters just to make sure my hunch was correct.  After I crossed out the letters, I had an extra S which I quickly added to cycle making it plural.  A very fast solve and a funny cartoon make today’s Jumble perfect for the novice player.  Did you notice the writing on the sleeve of the woman’s shirt?  I believe it’s a Jumble brand cycling shirt but I’ll let you decide for yourself.  Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

AFTER REALIZING HOW MUCH CORN HE HAD FOR SALE, THE FARMER WAS GRINNING —

RAOFATROEEMR = FROM EAR TO EAR

Good morning my friends and welcome back to another week of Jumble fun!  It’s Monday morning so I started the puzzle with the mindset that David and Jeff were going to take it easy on us.  That’s exactly what I found with probably my quickest solve ever!  All of the words jumped out at me instantly and the cartoon answer flowed naturally after reading the sentence.  The cartoon was well drawn featuring a jovial farmer proudly displaying a couple of ears of corn from his bountiful harvest.  The man on the right was wearing a 9/11 memorial shirt which was a very thoughtful and timely addition by Mr. Knurek.  I wish you a very happy Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow.  🙂

KEWYEL = WEEKLY

CARTOON ANSWER:

THE BASEBALL TEAM’S WINNING STREAK CONTINUED —

BOWNONWY = “WON” BY “WON”

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!!!  Today’s clue word choices were more challenging than yesterday’s lineup.  BOTANY took about a minute to decipher and would be my pick for the most difficult word.  Moving along to the cartoon, we’re out on the baseball field celebrating another win by team Jumble.  Everyone is smiling and one player is being paraded around on the shoulders of his teammates.  We can only assume that he scored the winning run which allowed his team to continue their impressive winning streak.  With two of the words in quotes, I didn’t attempt a guess at the final solution and wrote out the clue letters instead.  I saw WON immediately and wrote it down.  There was another WON so I wrote that down as well which left BY for the finish.  An easy solve overall, but the fact that the cartoon was baseball themed really made up for it.  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I’ll see you tomorrow.  🙂

WALELEFISEEN = NEW LEASE (ON) LIFE

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday!  All of the clue words were quick solves with no hesitation whatsoever.  ELEVEN would be my pick for the most difficult word choice followed by ELECT.  Moving forward to the cartoon, we are in a leasing office at Sunny Day Apartments where a woman can be seen signing a document finalizing her decision to rent a unit.  She seems upbeat and positive which is the mindset she’ll need as she makes a fresh start during this new chapter in her life.  The cartoon was a quick solve as well and I was able to complete it just by reading the dialogue and sentence.  Have a wonderful Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  🙂

CARTOON ANSWER:

IT’S EASY TO ADD ZERO PLUS ZERO BECAUSE THERE’S —

GTHONIITONT = NOTHING TO IT

Good Wednesday morning everyone!  Today is a tale about two different medias as they relate to the Daily Jumble with each form having its own unique advantages and disadvantages.  Opening the newspaper this morning, the first thing that came to mind was how simplistic the cartoon appeared to be.  The print version allowed me to get the clue words finished, solving all of the words relatively quickly except for a slight pause on INSIST.  As soon as I noticed the newspaper on the father’s lap, I ditched my paper and went digital to finish off the puzzle as well as go on to discover that the cartoon was much more complex than I first perceived it to be.

The final solution to the puzzle was a piece of cake and came instantly after reading the dialogue and sentence.  The really fun part was zooming in on the aforementioned newspaper where there was writing on it that took a few minutes to figure out.  NO MORE PEARLS was clearly visible, as well as what I thought was the word WINE.  Thinking about it for a minute, I remembered the comic strip Pearls Before Swine (written and illustrated by Stephan Pastis), and the cartoon was actually the same father telling his son NO MORE PEARLS BEFORE SWINE comics.  Excellent job, Mr. Knurek!  There’s no way that I would have been able to see that in my newspaper, so using two different medias to solve today’s “puzzle within a puzzle” was a Jumble aficionados dream.  Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow!  🙂

CARTOON ANSWER:

THE WHEEL HADN’T QUITE BEEN INVENTED, BUT THE WHEELS —

OOEINTNIEWRM = WERE IN MOTION

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday!  The first two clue words were solved in a flash, and the last two were solved after just a few seconds of hesitation.  NIBBLE would have to edge out WARMLY as my pick for the most difficult word.  Moving along to the cartoon, it’s another beautifully drawn piece featuring two cavemen as well as quite a few extras.  Almost everyone will notice the parietal Jumble puzzle art on the wall and I couldn’t help but notice that the final solution to that cartoon is only 3 letters long.  It’s either a very primitive form of the Jumble or a Monday morning solve!  Although these cavemen struggle to perfect the wheel, they seem to have already mastered self-grooming techniques as shown by the impeccably trimmed sideburns and mustache for the man on the left and a neatly brushed and tied beard for the man on the right.  These two definitely raised the bar for the caveman look as my perception was that they all looked like Captain “Cavey” Caveman from the old Hanna-Barbera cartoons.  The solution to this puzzle was quite simple and my guess turned out to be correct.  IN being already nestled together in the letter layout would be a great help if you were stuck right out of the gate.  Have a terrific Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  🙂

CARTOON ANSWER: PREPARING FOR THE LABOR DAY COOKOUT WAS:

FORTOOWAKL – A LOT OF WORK

Good morning, AMERICA!           LABOR DAY!

🎶 MEAT me in Saint Louie, Louie..MEAT me at the Fair….🎶

🎶”There are people in this country who work hard every day, Not for fame or fortune do they strive. But the fruits of their LABOR are worth more than their pay, And it’s time a few of them were recognized….For the waitress, the mechanic, the policeman on patrol, for everyone who works behind the scenes…With a spirit you can’t replace with no machine…Hello America, Let me thank you for your time….”🎶

Even though we’ve seen all of today’s words before, it was the scrambling of FOCAL that threw my eyes out of focus! And then I couldn’t get Edie Falco out of my head. Which led me to the Sopranos. Which led me to Little Steven Van Zandt. Which led to me to the Man, Bruce. Which led me to…🎶…Born in the USA…”🎶. Which led me right back to where I should be…LABOR DAY. (It really shouldn’t take this long, tho. It’s not easy living in my head…)! Todays cartoon shows us a group of people going through “A Lot of Work” to prepare their Labor Day cookout. And here’s where the eye candy comes in today…”COOKOUT”. The word. I’ve never said cookout in my life. In NY, we say Barbecue..and then there’s Barbeque, and BBQ. We use it as a noun AND a verb. And it got me to thinking…(Which is NEVER a good thing…)! What do you call it, Jumble America? Grilling? Barbecuing? Cooking out? Does BBQ go in your mouth, but you invite people over for a “Cookout”? Do you blend your nouns and verbs? Does it depend on what you’re cooking? And what’s up with “smoking”? Drop us a comment today, and let us know where you’re from, and what you call it. I was doing the research, but it was too much work…🇺🇸🙋🏻

PS: It’s nice to see a LABOR DAY puzzle for LABOR DAY. Thanks, Guys! (And ok, I can’t help myself…The little bead of sweat? Cute!)

Have a great Holiday, Everyone! And to those of you who are struggling with the aftermath of Harvey, know that we’re all hurting for you, and praying for you, and rooting for you. America Strong. God Bless America. 🇺🇸🙏🏻

CARTOON ANSWER:

SHE WANTED HER DAUGHTER TO CLEAN HER ROOM AND WASN’T —

SURGODMANNISE = MESSING AROUND

Good morning my friends and happy Friday!  The clue word choices were excellent today with USURP being my pick for the most difficult word to decipher.  It’s not that it’s a “difficult” word, but rather an uncommon word that is rarely used or seen in print.  GOURD would have to take second place for the same reason.  With all four words solved in a flash, it was on to the cartoon.  I’m pretty sure most of us have experienced this exact moment a few times while growing up and now I find myself telling my son to pick up all of his toys on a daily basis.  Apparently this mother has the same problem and she’s very upset with her daughter as indicated by her wagging finger and her ominous hand on hip pose in the doorway.  I was able to figure out the answer before writing out the clue letters for a surprising fourth day in a row.  If you had difficulty coming up with the solution, the letter layout was very cryptic and you had a bit of work to do before finding a starting point.  Have a fantastic Friday and I’ll see you tomorrow!
