Good Friday morning everyone! No trouble with the clue words today as they all came to me instantly. I didn’t attempt to solve the cartoon without the clue letters this morning because I was running short on time. Mr. Hoyt did a splendid job of hiding the answer within the clue letter layout for the second day in a row and it was quite challenging. On my first attempt, I found FATHOMS and I thought I was on to something. That left me with INCLINE but it didn’t make sense even though it was two 7-letter words. I re-jumbled all the letters and started again. This time I found HIM which led me to HIMSELF and CONTAIN was right there for the finish. Have a great day my friends and I’ll see you tomorrow! 😀👍🏻

Good Thursday morning everyone! The first three clue words came instantly, but I had to look at SHOULD a couple of times before it gave itself up. With all of the clue words solved, I moved along to the cartoon puzzle. I didn’t attempt to solve it without the clue letters because of the word in quotes. The two G’s together in the letter layout brought BUGGY to mind and I figured HORSE AND would be all that was left to complete the pun. Sure enough it was there and the overall solution was much easier than anticipated. After the solve, I looked at the letter layout again and marveled at how well HORSE was hidden within the letters. If the G’s were moved to different spots, this puzzle would have been a bit more challenging. Jeff has drawn a couple of period pieces this week and they’re always a treat to look at. Tomorrow I’ll be chaperoning a small cadre on a school field trip so I won’t have time to do a write-up. I’m sure some of you will take the time to fill in the blanks in my absence. Happy Wednesday everyone! SEASON was the only word that I wasn’t able to solve at first glance, but it came to me quickly on my second attempt. With all of the clue words solved, it was off to the cartoon puzzle. I attempted to solve it without using the clue letters but I just couldn’t crack it. After writing out the clue letters and reading the sentence and dialogue, I still couldn’t come up with anything. A little self-jumbling of the letters led me to find RAM and the rest flowed right into place for the solve! The letter layout was very cryptic and didn’t give anything away. It was also 13-letters so David had a lot of material to work with. Great cartoon and I especially liked the birds that Jeff drew in the “dizzy lines” above the rams head on the left. Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday! I thought the clue words were tough yesterday, but after seeing today’s, I’ve changed my mind. NEGATE was the most difficult of the bunch, followed by RARITY at a close second. After self-jumbling the letters on my trusty notepad, I was able to figure them out and moved right along to the cartoon puzzle. I didn’t run into any roadblocks and came up with the solution REEL quick. Jeff’s drawing was spot-on, giving us a wonderful scene of people in their finery both coming and going to a picture show in front of an ornate theater. You can almost feel the hustle and bustle of the couple’s passing by and if you listen closely, I imagine you’d hear them discuss in hushed tones the amazing “talking picture” they just witnessed. My favorite detail though was the poster in the background advertising Fritz Lang’s “METROPOLIS”. It still blows my mind that Jeff can fit so much detail into such a tiny cartoon. Good morning everyone and HAPPY FRIDAY! The clue words were a snap today with all of them coming to me at first glance. DINKY appears to be a new word as I don’t recall David using it before. Looking at the cartoon answer, I first counted the letters which totaled 11. Unable to come up with a word that long, I jotted down my letters and began the solve. DIFFERENT jumped out at me right away leaving IN for the finish. It was fun seeing Jeff draw himself into the cartoon today and he was wearing a t-shirt of his favorite band WILCO. That’s all I’ve got and the kids have early school dismissal so it’s off to the bus stop for me. I’m glad I got all of my errands done early this morning so we can relax and unwind. Good Thursday morning everyone! STUDIO gave me some trouble this morning but I figured it out with a little self jumbling of the letters. With all of the clue words solved it was on to the cartoon. My first thought was that there’s quite a few vowels in the solution. I was unable to solve it by reading the sentence and dialogue so I started a list of possible words. IS, IN ,TO, ON, and IF all made the list. As soon as I removed IS from the clue letters, FOOT jumped out at me and the solution came right away. At first glance of the cartoon in my newspaper, I thought the three people in the drawing were looking out an ornate porthole of a cruise ship. After solving the words and soaking it all in, I chuckled and immediately saw that we were in the middle of a sales pitch for a new golf course design. My guess was AROUND OF GOLF but it didn’t make sense so I wrote out my letters and immediately saw my error. Good Tuesday morning everyone! UNFOLD and FUMING were the only two words that gave me a hint of trouble this morning. With all of the clue words solved it was on to the cartoon. The letter layout left the solution very cryptic and with the quotes thrown in there, I didn’t even attempt to solve it blind. Reading the dialogue and sentence, my mind was thinking the solution would have something to do with milk. The word “fluid” grabbed my eye as it was practically spelled out in the letters. Did David do this on purpose to throw us off? It worked on me if he did and I tried to make it work but gave up after a few minutes. I did some self jumbling of the letters and found UDDER by chance leaving FAILURE to be quickly solved for the finish. Overall a great puzzle and wonderful cartoon.
