  1. Happy Monday everyone! Our first solve of the week was fairly routine. Besides an extra look or two at ATUBYE, all of the anagrams solved right down the line. MILTI and SOLFIS have been used extensively in the past, while DRETN and ATUBYE both returned as being new.

Refreshing cartoon of some neighborhood kids starting a lemonade stand. Their location doesn’t seem overly ripe with customers so they’ve decided to break up and venture out in search of some new ones. Google says a fair price for a glass of lemonade using fresh lemons and ice is $1. Since their stand didn’t have any lemons, sugar or ice visible, I’d assume they’re serving the powdered variety. Some of the fun details were four nested Solo cups, a couple of wrapping paper tubes holding up the lemonade sign, a small reflector on the bicycle seat and a wilting dandelion on the stretch of grass near the sidewalk.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 10-letters. The layout was fairly cryptic, but the TND clumped together immediately brought STAND into view. With those letters crossed out, the rest of the solve was a breeze. On to tomorrow! Until then, be well and enjoy the day.

  3. On This Day in History: AUGUST 9th

-(1936) Jesse Owens won his fourth gold medal at the Berlin Olympics. He was the first American to win four medals in one Olympics.

-(1944) The U.S. Forest Service created “Smokey the Bear.”

-(1975) The New Orleans Superdome was officially opened. The Oilers beat the Saints by a score of 13 to 7. There were 72,434 fans in attendance.

-(1995) Jerry Garcia, lead singer of the Grateful Dead, passed away in Forest Knolls, California, of a heart attack at age 53.

-(2004) Donald Duck received the 2,257th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

      • That’s amazing, Chuck. Your dad must have been quite an athlete to compete against the Buckeye Bullet!

        • It was unfortunate that Jesse Owens wasn’t invited to FDR’s White House. FDR was campaigning for re-election and didn’t want to lose the southern white voter.

  4. Nice to see you home, Mike!
Today’s J was a walk in the park.
While time did not STAND STILL, it was still fun………….

  5. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well…🙋🏻‍♀️
🍋 TAKING A STAND – HOW SWEET IT IS! 🍋

    🎶 No, I won’t be afraid…Oh, I won’t be afraid…Just as long as you STAND…STAND by me…🎶 “Stand By Me” – Ben E King 1961 https://tinyurl.com/pjv7dtma

🍋 Their entrepreneurial futures…you’ll see no LIMIT here,
Determined these kids to succeed…a TREND is very clear…
Some critics said a stand like this…it’s something for a FOSSIL,
But these two they went “hands on”…they’re savvy, not so docile
Though young, these boys have business smarts, and def put them to use…
Deciding to approach their base…they’ll hardly be refused
Their stand is quite the BEAUTY, and with every glass they’ll fill…
You’ll see no sign of laziness…these kids just don’t STAND STILL!🍋

  6. 🤷🏻‍♀️ The BEAUTY Pageant participant, trying to LIMIT her degree of displeasure, found it hard to STAND STILL for what she was hearing…that the TREND was now leaning towards putting a stop to this “FOSSIL-like exhibition”…🤷🏻‍♀️

🧵 The Mother thought she’d start a TREND, and figured sky’s the LIMIT,
    She’d make a line of FOSSIL clothes…and told her kid “Don’t fidget…
You’re gonna be a BEAUTY, dressed up in pretty twill…
But while I’m trying to fit you…you really must STAND STILL…”🧵

  7. Good morning. Welcome to Jumble 101. It couldn’t have been easier if the gave us the answers. Breezed right through the words and had a blind solve finally. Angie, you picked the perfect song for jumble today. Always enjoy listening to it. It transports you right to the movie. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Good Morning, Paul, I agree…Jumble 101 indeed! 👏🏻👏🏻! Sweeeeeet, as we say in Brooklyn! And thank you…I absolutely love the song too. Have a good one…And hoping you’re staying well and safe too, Paul. 🍋🙋🏻‍♀️

  8. A mini failure today as I had the second word on the tip of my tongue….but it just didn’t materialize within a moment or two. Yes, a complete blind solve it should have been, but alas…twas not. Speedily unscrambled the anagrams, found STILL, saw Angela’s excellent song choice….and am moving onward. Have a great Monday

  9. Great minds think alike, Angela. Today is the 35th anniversary of “Stand by Me” film and that great Ben E. King song came roaring out when I saw Stand Still emerge. The movie was so good, too. Reminded me of my old gang and we still keep in touch. I do feel like a Fossil but the Beauty of it is that I don’t Limit myself to the most recent Trend. Heat Advisory on the Great Plains today. Stay safe.

    • Good Morning, OO…LOL! Thank you. It’s definitely one of my favorites, and like you, it immediately hit me…But the movie? 35 years…phew! Hard to fathom, right? But it’s funny that both you and Paul mention it. TBT, it hardly crossed my mind. I think it just resonates more with men…the “old gang” aspect, as you mentioned. I enjoyed it, but I don’t think the essence of it meant as much to us women. Maybe I should watch it again… Tks again, Oo…have a great day, and stay safe with this heat. 🍋🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. Though in sales there are no guarantees
They would give the lemons a squeeze
Then set out on their way
To find folks who would pay
The price for a drink that would please!

    • Hi Helen…I always write up a few, hoping I’ll have one that matches yours the closest. But now I can’t choose! I’m going with these two…They both seem to contain elements of yours…🤷🏻‍♀️ Wishing you a great day, Helen! Enjoy! 🙋🏻‍♀️

      🍋The energy level quite high,
These kids got the people to buy…
      Approaching their base,
      They made quite a case…
For squeezing a customer dry! 🍋

🍋Two boys and a Stand where they sold,
Lemonade, oh so sweet and ice cold…
      They reached out to folks,
      They hustled…no joke…
And the profits? A sight to behold! 🍋

        • Tk you, I’m thinking so too. Plus I so wanted to pick one that utilized the word SQUEEZE 😂 LEMONricks! …A great sTART to the day! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

          • A riposte to your first limerick – and that’s it – no more!

And when dry, folks will come back for more
            Profits will continue to soar
            They’ll see no reason
            to stop squeezin’ the season
And wonder what next year has in store!

            • Helen…👏🏻👏🏻…But it’s like dangling a carrot! 😉…And this was the last of my morning group…Thinking alike!! Ok…Closing up shop! I’m off to make Lemonade!!! 🍋🙋🏻‍♀️

💲For these boys it was only a start,
After this they bought themselves a cart…
And a bar’s in the making,
              It’s theirs for the taking…
Just proving these boys def worked smart! 💲

  11. Anagrams were a quick solve and given the lemonade ‘stand’ the cartoon solution quickly followed for a successful Jumble start to the week.

    • Couldn’t solve a jumble faster than this one as I’m having breakfast on my desk enjoying a beautiful morning. Don’t forget Tammy Wynette’s Stand By Your Man. She had the perfect voice for Western songs.
Stay safe from the new variant
      Christian

      • Hi Christian. Granted, Tammy was the quintessential “wear your heart on your sleeve” woman, and yes, she had the perfect voice for it all, but somehow I just don’t see it with this scenario. But that’s definitely a classic…and a Karaoke favorite too! Enjoy your beautiful weather, Christian…and yes, stay safe…🍋🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. After reading all the great messages, the only thing that stands out for me is Mike’s history on Smokey the Bear. I know, go figure! 🤷🏻‍♀️I got into a friendly jawing, years ago with a dear friend who was a fire fighter! He said it’s “Smokey Bear” now! I said No Way! He said It’s not “Santa the Claus”,or “Easter the Bunny”! So I sang to him.. “Smokey the Bear, Smokey the Bear, Howlin’ and a growlin’ and a sniffin’ the air” …etc. the whole dog gone song! (I know….get the hook!) Now, We we’re like 30+ something years old back then, and at a stalemate over this situation! 🙄I don’t know when they changed it, or even what Sam Elliot says on the commercials these days, but he will always be Smokey “THE” Bear to me! (1944) 🐻…. 😉😉 and P.S. the puzzle was fun today!

    • I agree with you Kim, but it looks like we’re both wrong! Here’s what Google says:

“In order to maintain the correct rhythm, the writers added a “the” between “Smokey” and “Bear.” As testament to the song’s popularity, Smokey Bear became known as “Smokey The Bear” to many adoring fans, but in actuality his name never changed, and he is still known correctly as Smokey Bear.”

Wikipedia says: The living symbol of Smokey Bear was a five-pound, three month old American black bear cub who was found in the spring of 1950 after the Capitan Gap fire in New Mexico. At first he was called Hotfoot Teddy, but he was later renamed Smokey.

I hope you and everyone else are enjoying these bits of history that I’ve been adding. Chuck said his dad competed against THE Jesse Owens(!) and now you and Smokey the Bear. It definitely mixes things up a bit! 🙂

  13. I KNOW!! I saw Chuck’s post!!! Truly Amazing!!! And then leave it to me bringing up “Smokey Bear”, which is so silly in comparison. So sorry for that! Well, now I must tell my friend, he was right, after all of these years! Thanks for the info Mike! And I am very much enjoying the History lessons you are providing us! Nice work! ☺️ Have a great evening!
