A RERUN this year, and they’re rooting for vegetables amok, That TINGE of cold weather last week did not affect their luck… So BITTEN years ago by the strong “let’s grow our own” bug, They got rid of a GOPHER, and the random pesky slug They’re out there in their garden patch, to harvest what they’ll eat… While loving some old music…yes, time to “TURNIP” THE “BEET”….
Before I DIG into our puzzle today, I have to say that this solve is an amazing play on words. I remember David once saying that he constructed his puzzles to GROW more difficult as the LEEK…I.mean week, went by…and that the Friday ones were considered to be the most challenging. And while I, personally, never found it to be true, as far as clever goes? This one today is brilliant…We’ve not one, but two, unbelievably witty puns, and I think it’s one of his best…Too bad Lettuce isn’t a Root Vegetable…We could have said, “LETTUCE TURNIP THE BEET”…but unfortunately it’s not…so we had to LEAF it alone…
Ok…let’s get to the ROOT of our puzzle…
So…Today…Harvesting time for our couple, BEAN Affleck, and his wife, OKRA Winfrey. And we see them as they’re collecting the fruits of their labor…Well, to be more precise, the vegetables of their labor. And ROOT vegetables to be exact…the main ones being featured…TURNIPS and BEETS. And as lovers of music, (=BEATS), they have their boom box with them, and decide to TURN UP (TURNIP) the sound (=BEAT) as Bean’s favorite song comes on. And with our question giving us CRANKED (=TURN UP) and ROOT vegetables, and our dialogue giving us “Song”, and “Rhythm”, plus those tell-tale quotation marks telling us Dave’s PLANTED two puns in there…this one PLAYED out perfectly…They RAISED the volume to “TURNIP” THE “BEAT”…https://tinyurl.com/28kn4z4a … https://tinyurl.com/2kk6szdv
So…There you have it, Folks…Done. Have a good one. Be well, be kind, stay safe…And this puzzle reminds me of my friend, who was offered a job working with a Farmer, but wasn’t sure if he should take it, because he felt the CELERY was too low…But considering the fact that he’s BEAN so tense lately, and pretty MULCH BURIED in debt, I told him it might be a GOURD choice…He’d get some PEAS and quiet, have a chance to ROMAINE calm, you know, THYME to get his HEAD together, while still earning some money. It could be MINT to be…Problem is, he doesn’t much BAY LEAF in himself, and he’s so used to not BEETing the odds, that he just can’t get upBEET about anything. Anyway, all I could do is offer advise, the idea itself has to GROW on him. But I do think he can CARROT it off, and it might be MINT
be just what he’s WEEDING right now…”KALE, yes, SPROUT your wings”, I said. “Who knows, you may just end up kicking some ASPARAG-ASS…🙋🏻♀️

Hi Angela, love your Jumble Answers, love the puns!
My hub and I are curious how people should vote to answer the question, “Which anagram gave you trouble?” Choices, “None, the answer, or one of the four words.”
Should one pick none if they get the answer and the include any words they got but may have given one trouble (although they eventually got).
Thanks

Thank you, AC, I’m glad you enjoy it all. There’s no science to the poll, it’s just for fun, but you’d choose NONE only if you solved the 4 (or 6) words, and were able to get the puzzle answer also.🙋🏻♀️

🤦🏻♀️ Just as a GOPHER burrows its head underground…she felt like doing the same…as a TINGE of blush overcame her, to be experiencing another RERUN of TURN UP THE BEAT…as the same disagreement…ad nauseam…occurred; you’d think “once BITTEN, twice shy” would have come into play…🤦🏻♀️
🤦🏻♂️He was BITTEN by the GOPHER, a RERUN, truth be told, The salesman told he when he bought, this gopher was quite bold… He feels a TINGE of anger at himself for the repeat, ‘Twas music set the gopher off…wrong to TURN UP THE BEAT…🤦🏻♂️

Oh my, Pecan Tortes to start the day. I’ll have to agree, today’s puzzle was a pretty brilliant play on words. And there were so many clues right there in front of me (which I missed). Anyway, words solved speedily and then took out THE….then BEAT and then finally saw TURNUP. Great Friday puzzle and excellent explanation from Angela. Thanks for the post. Terry

Good morning. Today I’m beaming with pride because not only did I get the words with ease but after putting the letters down after seeing the dreaded quotation marks and texting everything to my youngest son and daughter-in-law because of all my failures I took a stab at it and in less than a minute I came up with the answer. Still feeling elated I put on your song choice which was fantastic and then reading your post was amazed how easy it could have been if I applied my thinking like you. You also had me laughing with all your puns. Until tomorrow take care.
