♟️It’s hiking once again we see…albeit different slant, (And GLAND won’t make the cut today…I tried…but I just can’t… The word is quite the DOOZY, it goes beyond BEMUSE, We’re talking ‘bout a chess game…so gland I just can’t use)… But EATERY can claim a spot, it strikes a perfect chord… Since on a cruise the food’s divine…and so it STAYED ON BOARD…♟️
I’m always ON BOARD with these solves that can be taken 2 totally different ways. PLAYs on words can be so clever…and David’s definitely the KING when it comes to them..
So…Today…What seems to be a follow-up to yesterday’s puzzle, with the mention of the glacier…Only today, we’re ON BOARD an Alaskan cruise ship, where we see a chess BOARD, 2 playing passengers, and a couple admiring the game. At least the man is…the woman…I’m not so sure…Looking upward, she seems to be PAWNing… I mean fawning…over something overhead…And we see that the winner of the tournament, stuck ON BOARD due to his injury, had to forgo yesterday’s hike…while his CHECK MATE, I mean chess mate, most likely no ROOKie at the game, is gracious in defeat…even though in his DEFENSE he acknowledges his bad luck…So the bottom line here today? Even though our winner isn’t in SHIPshape, at least there’s something to FALL back on…He STAYED ON BOARD…<a https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/on-board in more ways than WON…And we’ve CRUISED to another win ourselves…without AFTing to try hard at all…
Jeff’s💎Gems? Once again, it’s obvious we’re seeing a COMBINATION of real people, and there’s the Purdue University’s “P” logo on the men’s pullOVERs. And the winner’s binding and cane has to RANK up there with adding reality to his limited ACTIVITY…But the woman? Once again, I’m at a LOSS as to what she’s so taken with…It’s a STALEMATE for me…
So…There you have it, Folks…Done. Have a good one. Be well, be kind, stay safe…And this puzzle reminds me of my friend who swears he dined with Kasparov. When we asked him how it went, he said, “Dinner was nice, but we ate a cold meal”….And when we asked why, he said…”There was a checkered tablecloth…and it took him an hour just to pass me the salt”…♟️🙋🏻♀️

👍🏻 While it did BEMUSE the crowd, the opening of the new EATERY was a DOOZY, with the sign misprinted as “GLAND Opening”…but luckily everyone STAYED ON BOARD….👍🏻
🤷🏻♀️Upon the board the teacher wrote…”GLAND is the word today” And one med student said out loud…”BEMUSE, Professor Gray”… She just came from the EATERY…the statement was a DOOZY, But Gray noticed the woman looked to be just a tad woozy He asked if she would rather leave, until she felt restored… But she said no…she’d be alright…and so she STAYED ON BOARD…🤷🏻♀️

🛳️ When you’re geared up to go on a cruise, The last thing you’d expect is a bruise… But for our guy today, Looks like things went that way… And of course it became bitter news…🛳️
🏔️With a trip to the Mendenhall due, He looked forward to what would ensue… But fate did intervene, And now what’s being seen… Is a man dealing with land-locked blues…🏔️
🥾But when seeing that he couldn’t hike, Found a pastime that he always liked… Since he was stuck on board, It was a small reward… And a slight bit of comfort did strike…🥾
♟️He played chess to whittle the ennui, While the boat was there docked on the sea.. And his prowess proved strong, He defeated the throng… And the tournament champ he would be…♟️
👞Here’s to hoping the rest of his cruise, Is smooth sailing, nothing more to lose… Though the glacier he missed, Hope no pain will persist… And he gets back to donning two shoes! 👞
TGIF ! Hopefully we’ll have a heat wave here into the 30’s ! Well two anagrams stumped me , so I’m going to an EATERY and look up BEMUSE ! But the jumble had me diagnosing the game of chess and had me looking for Check Mate , or the chess pieces ! But I didn’t see STAYED ON BOARD , comparing a chess board and being on a cruise ship ! The puzzle was a little too cryptic for me today. Therefore, I went after the anagrams and had to pause a moment or two on them. Anyway, after solving them, it was pretty easy to put in place as I saw ON BOARD. Your story about the checkered tablecloth was really funny, Angela. Professor…I don’t know what to say…I think it’s more concentration needed on the entire puzzle..the dialogue, the drawing, etc. You need to take your time and study it. As for the words…again, I wish I could help. 🤷🏻♀️
