Happy first day of July! All of today’s clue words have been previously used. Three of the anagrams were new, with BOATO being the only repeat. GOEMA is the one that tide me down the longest. I tried making words with the consonants when I should have been using the vowels! It wasn’t a lost claws though. I did get it eventually.
Today’s cartoon brings us to an underwater restaurant where we sea some fish dining. The one with a big nose is called a blobfish. They live off the coast of Australia and are the world’s ugliest animal according to Google. I picked up on “floor” in the dialogue and in the cartoon sentence. Noticing the crates embedded in the sea floor was a brilliant but subtle clue. They look to be feasting on sea worms, fish bits and some kind of vegetation. On the plate is written RMS TITANIC. The initials RMS mean Royal Mail Ship. Titanic was actually a mail ship, with a designated compartment on deck G. Speaking of wrecks, Jumble Jeff is a great guy and made his “signature” sailboat one in the background. Cool view for the guests. This restaurant will get great reviews on Kelp!
The final solve had 13-letters and I saw BOTTOM straight away. FEEDERS was quite visible in the leftovers making this one a done deal. Fun pun — a reel catch! Be well and enjoy the day.

Angela taught me to examine the cartoon before doing the anagrams and I got the answer immediatly.
When I went back to the anagrams they were HARD!
Over time I got them but it was no cake walk.
I enjoy these kind of J Days!
Hope you all are doing well…………………………..
Hi Mig. Good Morning. 👏🏻👏🏻 Kudos on getting the solve without FLOUNDERing…but just to clarify, what I did suggest, was to examine the cartoon carefully to get the solve, but not necessarily before the anagrams. That’s a personal choice. I do the puzzle that way, solve first and words second, enjoying the challenge; because I do feel that the dialogue and gems gleaned from what Jeff draws lays it all out on a silver PLATTER…But again, it may not be for everyone. I’m just big on idioms, and David never fails to WET 😉 my APPETITE for them! Have a good one, Mig! Enjoy! 🦞🙋🏻♀️
Good Morning, Everyone…🦞 THE SCROUNGE LOUNGE? 🦞
🎶 How much do I love you?…I’ll tell you no lie…How DEEP is the OCEAN? How high is the sky?…🎶 “How Deep is the Ocean” 🎶 – Frank Sinatra – https://tinyurl.com/5b72mdh5
🦞 When it comes down to dining, OMEGA’s not a choice,
Considering it TABOO, last would never gain a voice…
This owner looks to SOFTEN up his diners best he can,
He’s “scrounged” up water’s bottom to serve this woman and man…
They’ve TRUDGED here for a gourmet meal, the restaurant’s a leader
What we have here? It’s Bottom feeders who feed BOTTOM FEEDERS! 🦞
🧀 Trying to SOFTEN the cheese too quickly, she did the TABOO, by running it under hot water, and now realized that she had a choice…TRUDGE back to the store, or serve what to her spelt OMEGA…a BOTTOM FEEDERS type of meal…🧀
🤷🏻♀️ The Alpha and OMEGA, the start and then the finish,
You TRUDGE through life along the way, while trying to diminish
The things considered TABOO…you try to SOFTEN blows,
Though life may throw you curve balls…it’s just expected, I suppose
But strive we must to overcome…That trouble? Learn to weeder…
Out of your life so you won’t be amongst the BOTTOM FEEDERS…🤷🏻♀️
Good morning. I went over each word once and got nothing so I put the paper aside and had my breakfast. When I came back to it I was able to get each word rather quick without having to go back. The cartoon answer took some time and finally it clicked that the answer was bottom feeders. Very cleaver. Old blue eyes hit the charts again, good choice. Loved your posts Mike and Angela. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
Tks, Paul. Wishing you stay well and safe too. Have a great day. 🦞🙋🏻♀️
Thank you Paul. Take care.
The puzzle was a blind solve today, but I really enjoyed the very busy cartoon. Could not come up with Soften for love or money under my self-imposed time constraint. No sentence today too much work to do. Lastly, I want to wish everyone a Happy (and safe) Fourth of July. Take a tip from an old breaking news reporter and leave the fireworks to pros.
Strangely….it was a blind solve for some insane reason. It just popped into my brain. Doing anagrams to substantiate, had to back in SOFTEN, so I was glad to have those three letters left over. “How Deep is the Ocean”…another great Irving Berlin hit from the great American Songbook.
Yes it is, a great old song. And as for the solve? Definitely an easy CATCH! https://tinyurl.com/e2959trc Have a good one, Terry! 🦞🙋🏻♀️
Other than a pause at soften, there was no fishing around for answers this morning. I did not know that RMS information about the Titanic, Mike. How did I miss that for so many years. I remember seeing the original “Titanic” movie with Clifton Webb & Barbara Stanwyck. I actually prefer it to the glitzy more recent remake.Wishing all of you a good day.
Sounds like you’ll be ready for trivia night, Betty!
Wishing you a wonderful Thursday as well. 🙂
Anagrams came fairly quickly, but the cartoon had me stumped.Another bad day in a bad Jumble week for me.Plus we’ve been deluged by daily rain.
Wish you could send it our way, Chuck. We’re desperate out West.
Hi Betty…I’m a strong believer in the power of prayer. So, for what it’s worth… https://tinyurl.com/3ahke87d It can’t hurt….Good luck. My thoughts and prayers are with you all out West. 🙏🏻🙋🏻♀️
Thank you, Miss Angela. I’m reminded of the scene in the movie, Patton where he tells the minister to write a prayer to stop the bad weather . We definitely need a rain praye, rain dance or something out here. 🌧
YW, Betty. Ironically, it’s dark and pouring here, as we speak…and the thunder’s rumbling. And the news is speaking of severe thunderstorms coming, with a tornado warning in Jersey. Who has too much, who has too little, right? 🤷🏻♀️ The weather’s so erratic all over the country. It’s very unnerving. And I like your memory, it’s been a long time since I’ve thought of that movie. I hope you get your needed rain, and I’ll dance and pray for you tonight. Good luck, and stay safe. 🙏🏻🙋🏻♀️
Hi all – The words were interesting today. The third was only one letter from HONEST and then I saw STONE, but when I saw OFTEN I realized the word was SOFTEN. Then I saw TURGED but realized that that is spelled TURGID and saw TRUDGE. The answer was pretty obvious.
Had to laugh at the lobster’s whatever-they-are looking like a French waiter’s mustache. Had to look at the cartoon online to catch the somewhat dark humor of having the plates from the Titanic and seeing the usually-sinking sailboat finally having sunk.
Good wishes to everyone.
“He pulled on slippers to SOFTEN his steps before he began to TRUDGE through the temple knowing that it was TABOO to disturb the meditation, and doing so would be the alpha and OMEGA of his membership.” (And the members were stretching as hard as I did for that sentence.)
Hey Steve…I don’t think think what we’re seeing here today with the China is dark humor as much as a RED HERRING. Of the 12,000 reported plates that were on the Titanic, none of them looked like the plates being used here at the Scrounge Lounge. I’m “pretty sure, the Monsieur” picked them up cheap at a SEAsonal yard SAIL, and just had them underwater enGRAVEd. He just FLOUNDERed around with the truth a bit…And the sailboat? Look at it closely…it doesn’t really look like Jeff’s Signature Sinking Sailboat…and let’s be honest…this one has hit rock bottom. Why would Jeff make a BOTTOM FEEDER out of his sailboat? KEEL only regret it later, when KEEL find himself AT BAY looking to give us something to SEA in a water themed puzzle. So I doubt this is his SSS…It’s a FLUKE if you ask me…His is still up there somewhere…waiting for KELP…🦞⛵️🙋🏻♀️
Could be, but maybe Jeff’s got a whole armada of sailboats ready to sink! 😂
“Oh Captain, my Captain”.???…ARMADA thought so in the past…but now I’d be SHELL-shocked if he did! ⛵️🤦🏻♀️
* Double “think” on that first line above. I have a SINKING feeling I’m going to have to SCALE back the length of my fingernails…💅🏻🤦🏻♀️
I waded into the anagrams with ease but floundered and flapped a bit before untangling the answer.
Happy July 4 weekend coming up, to all Americans. Canada Day, today, celebrations are very subdued this year, due to Covid restrictions and also the reckoning with a colonial past.
