      • Not easy for me today Angela! I got most of it finally but it was some work.
        Fun as always!

        • As long as you got it…Lost the BATTLE, but won the WAR! Enjoy your night, Mig! 👑🙋🏻‍♀️

  1. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well…

    🎶”King of the Road”🎶 – Roger Miller 1965 https://tinyurl.com/ys85hk24

👑 The Persians they were STUNG by him, he sent them into ORBIT,
He overthrew their Empire…all things for them a forfeit…
His army like an AGENCY, it def cut a wide swath,
He left those in his wake, to say the least…definitely wroth…
(And COUPON in this setting? It’s just not making the cut,
I tried but no cigar, Folks…no ifs, no ands nor buts)
The bottom line, our King here…legendary is his fate…
But to those he had conquered? Alexander?…NOT SO GREAT! 👑

So, my first thought, just glancing at our question? I’m like…Macedon? Huh? Greek to me…But then I lifted my eyes to the cartoon…And there was no reason to SURRENDER…In fact, if this was a game of checkers? I’d say “KING me”!

Today’s words? No problem. Tried and true, we’ve battled them all in the past, and with just a slight blink at AGENCY for one of the Early Birds, all four words were easily conquered. And as for the solve? Once it was obvious who we were battling here? Gad ZEUS! A piece of Baklava!

Today’s cartoon…Persia, circa 334-331 BC. And with his trusty steed Bucephalas by his side, we’re witness to Alexander the Great’s https://tinyurl.com/3x3c2msh successful campaign to overthrow the Achaemenid Empire. It might have taken years, but the man was determined…and refused to leave…Was he arrogant? Was he self-centered? Was he intensely disliked? All of the above. But he persisted…And you know what they say…”Alex doesn’t make the heart grow fonder”…So, our solve? While Alexander might have been known to be GREAT…To those he conquered? NOT SO GREAT!

So, There you have it Folks, Done. Great puzzle…Even greater cartoon…And I wish you a great day. Be well, stay safe…and I’ll leave you with a little Alexander the Great humor… Alexander the Great arrives at an airport, and speaks with the check-in agent…She: ”Name”? He: “Alexander”. She: “Occupation”? …He: “No, just sightseeing”. …And yes, with that I’ll fall on my sword…👑🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 💳 With a discount COUPON from the AGENCY, he was able to take advantage of some of their services without getting STUNG by the out of ORBIT, NOT SO GREAT high fees…💳

🎢 The AGENCY decided that an outing would be nice,
They went to an amusement park, the rides not out of price
This one ride called the ORBIT, just one COUPON all you’d need
So he figured that he’d take a shot…and lined up to proceed,
He thought though ‘bout his luck before, and how he’d gotten STUNG,
Stuck on a ride malfunctioned, and for hours he had hung…
But wanting some adventure he was buckled ‘side his mate…
Only orbit is just what they did…his feeling?….NOT SO GREAT! 🎢

  3. Good morning. Like Alexander I conquered what I started out to do and with ease I might add. Breezed through the words but I needed the letters to solve the cartoon answer. Still another quick completion. Great song choice Angela. I’m gonna leave and listen to his song and hit your hidden treasures. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Good Morning, Paul: Conquered, indeed! 👏🏻👏🏻 And thank you. Have a good one, and hoping you stay well and safe too. 👑🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Having recalled that Alexander, was Alexander the ‘Great’,led to finally a cartoon solution. My first success of the week.Anagrams came quickly, even agency. We’re off for the weekend,so no real newspapers to access,so we’ll see how online access will work.Have a safe and sane Fourth!

    • I know you’ll have success with the online puzzle, Professor, especially tomorrow. You’ll see…😉Safe traveling, and enjoy your Family time. 👑🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Had another blind solve this morning…my batting average is up this week !! Cartoon didn’t mention GREAT….ergo, thought it was part of the puzzle and guessed correctly. Anagrams successfully un-anagrammed so a wonderful Friday puzzle morning. Cute joke, Angela

    • Hi Terry. Tks! And you’re batting 1,000 with the pick up on the omission of Great. 👏🏻👏🏻Enjoy your day! 👑🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. No problems today since I was familiar with some of the anagrams and knew Alexander was “great.” Loved the drawing and dialog .Loved your joke too, Angela, though I didn’t get it right away.
Wishing all a great holiday weekend.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. I didn’t immediately get it the first time it was told to me either. It’s a great play on words! And I agree, it’s a great drawing. Wishing you a great day too, Caroline. Enjoy! 👑🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. WHAT’S IN A NAME? …The whimsical lines in today’s dialogue where it mentions the cities being named after Alex? How many? 70!..70!…And there’s a slew of articles out there that mention that he did so simply because he loved himself… Talk about a GREAT Ego! But in all fairness, he did also name a city after his horse…Alexandria Bucephalus, a city in Punjab. Not Bucephalus, mind you, but “Alexandria” Bucephalus. I guess it was just too hard for him to give up that REIN! 🐎🤷🏻‍♀️

  8. OUT OF THE ARCHIVES…🗃🙋🏻‍♀️
The puzzle of April 24th, 2012: The question…”Building such a long wall in China was this for the construction crew”…The solve? NOT SO GREAT!

  9. Good puzzle this morning. Everything fell nicely into place. Love the dialog “I hear he names everything after himself” and “I don’t like him” Started off the morning with a good laugh. Happy Friday all.

    • Yep, Alex definitely WAR his heart on his SHEATH! 😉 GREAT dialogue! And happy Friday to you too, Betty! Enjoy! 🗡🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. I thought at first that the third Jumble word might be the guy who played in the movie Yankee Doodle Dandy, but I guess I was mistaken!

    • LOL! Good call, Chuck…👏🏻👏🏻! And it really would have played well on Sunday! 😉 Always good to see you, Chuck. Hope all is well with you and yours..🇺🇸🙋🏻‍♀️

  11. Gosh, That was GREAT, Angela! Thanks for bringing back a lot of good memories! Hope you’re keeping cool.

    • You’re very welcome, Chuck. Glad you enjoyed it. My Cagney was quite the showman. As for keeping cool? Trying my best! 🔥 Hope you are too! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. Hi all – I got the words fairly quickly. AGENCY took a second look, and then I saw UNCOOP and wondered whether that was acceptable, so took another jumble and saw COUPON. Since they avoided “great” in the dialog, the answer was obvious.

    Good wishes to everyone.

Nice joke Angela, and then you sent me down two side streets. Laughed at “piece of Baklava” but then wondered about a hat, which turned out to be “Balaclava” – hope they don’t meet! Then I thought Bucephalas might be the name of the horse sculpture at the Denver airport, but he’s actually called ‘Blue Mustang”, nicknamed “Blucifer.” Other than that, I had everything straight!  🙄

“The consumer AGENCY lured some suspects into their ORBIT by issuing them a fake big-screen TV COUPON, and they soon realized they had been STUNG by the operation.”

    • You might have it all straight…but at this point? You’ve definitely managed to confuse me! 😂🙋🏻‍♀️
