Happy Monday everyone! All of today’s clue words just happened to be old favorites. None of them were particularly challenging, but CANCEL did require a couple of extra glances before coming into view. For that reason alone I’ll go ahead and make it my pick for today’s hardest anagram. The five-letter scrambles were both repeats, while the six-letter ones appear to be original offerings. We did have some great clue words last week, so I think it’s safe to assume the difficulty level of the puzzles will only intensify as the week progresses.
The proprietor(s) of Betty’s Bowls seem to have found the ideal location in which to sell their food. Although we don’t know the exact location of where they’re parked, it does appear to be in a pedestrian area with quite a bit of foot traffic. The food truck, which looked more like an oversized cargo van, had plenty of eye-catching advertising to help attract business. The illuminated “GOOD FOOD” arrow on top of the truck ended up being my favorite, but it also had a rotating “Betty’s Bowls” logo right next to it, as well as another one emblazoned prominently on the side panel. I counted seven people waiting to place their orders. The line wasn’t straight, so perhaps it continues along behind the last couple that we see. My favorite detail for today was the reflection of the “curb” that could be seen on the inner rims of the food truck. Even the “crack” in the sidewalk was perfectly visible!
The final solve was an anagram consisting of 10 letters. Four of them were vowels and six were consonants. The layout did a great job of disguising the answer, but I had no trouble arriving at the solution just by reading the sentence. A nice and easy start to the week. Have a marvelous Monday everyone, and keep Jumbling!
My favorite detail was how you can see Betty entering the man’s order directly into an iPad, part of the POS Systems that a lot of food trucks are now using. And at first glance it looked like the guy was smoking a cigarette, because of the line of the grill pointing towards his mouth. Blurred lines! Where there’s smoke…there’s…? 😉🥗🙋🏻♀️
I also thought the man was smoking until I looked more closely.
This…ALL morning…🎶 https://tinyurl.com/5f6uyvwn 🎶 😉🤷🏻♀️
I would have gone with this one:
https://tinyurl.com/5cr98ery
PLUMP = Last used on 04/11/20 as SAME ANAGRAM
ABIDE = Last used on 12/23/20 as DBEIA
CANCEL = Last used on 03/18/20 as CENALC
PARADE = Last used on 09/20/19 as DARPEA
CURB APPEAL = NEW SOLUTION
MLUPP = Used on 04/11/20
BEIAD = Used on 05/27/20
CCNALE = NEW ANAGRAM
RDAPAE = NEW ANAGRAM
PLUABCAPRE = NEW ANAGRAM
I had no. problem with the anagrams or puzzle solution today.
Good to see Mike back!
I’m sure you also had a spectacular solve time, Mig.
Happy Monday! 🙂
Barely over a minute
Good Morning, Everyone….🥗 A SITE FOR SURE BUYS! 🥗
🥗 Miss Betty has a food truck, and the food is great we’re told,
The line forms as if a PARADE, her truck…a sight behold,
A neon sign that blinks “Good Food”, another turns like tide,
I guess the fanfare’s all allowed…sure Betty would ABIDE
So CANCEL plans at other trucks and eat at “Betty’s Bowls”
Her vegetables and PLUMP chickens a true sight to behold
And with her winning smile she’ll serve you a savory meal…
Aesthetics and aromas def drive up that CURB APPEAL! 🥗
🦃 Needing to ABIDE by the rules of the Co-op Board regarding CURB APPEAL, he had to CANCEL his plans to display the PLUMP inflatable Turkey, and instead donated it to the PARADE committee…🦃
🫐 The berry bush grew PLUMP and lush, it thrived under the sun,
‘Cause he made sure to ABIDE by instructions when begun
He’d hate to CANCEL travel plans, but this bush needed care,
And who would tend to it if he should up and go somewhere?
But so determined as he was to catch the judges eyes,
He still entered it for a prize when they’d PARADE on by
He’d have to change his schedule and look for a later deal…
‘Cause this bush had a real good chance to win for CURB APPEAL!🫐
At first glance at my letters I was thinking Carb Appeal! 😉 Nope. Have to use that “U”! My newspaper cartoon is too tiny to see that Betty’s Bowls is healthier cuisine! Good day, All!
Good morning, Kimberly! I’m not entirely sure what all of the ingredients in the logo were, but I definitely saw a shrimp and a couple of hot peppers. There was also a pair of chopsticks too.
Happy Monday! 🙂
The Plump dude will Abide and not Cancel the Parade of “Big Lebowski” fans at his door. You cannot Curb (the) Appeal of the dude even 23 years later! One of my favorite movies. Calm and seasonal on the Great Plains today. May you all have that special rug that really pulls the room together.
I don’t know if we all get the same advertisements on here, but I am seeing a rug that looks just like the one the Dude carted out of Old Man Labowski’s mansion! You are IN your element Mr. Oldomaha! 😆
I have 2. Big Brother! 👀👀! 🙋🏻♀️
Spectacular job, OO. And you didn’t use a single cuss word either! 😂
Enjoy your Monday!
Good morning. Flew through the words in lightning speed but spent a little time with the cartoon to finally get the clever answer. Enjoyed you work Angela. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
Good Morning, Paul. Thank you. 🥗🙋🏻♀️
If I had read your comment earlier, I could have skipped making blueberry muffins for breakfast this morning. They were mighty tasty though!
Have a great start to your week, Paul! 🙂
What can I say!
Only 2 words… It’s Monday!
Have a good Spring week!
Ha ha ha! Christian for the WIN! 😂😂😂
Easy one this morning. Food trucks were all the rage here before the pandemic. Every Sunday from April through October in our Presidio there was “Sunday in the Park’ – about twenty food trucks would arrive and people would just flock to picnic and hang out. The variety of food was amazing everything from Avocado Toast to Sushi. Hopefully this event will return next year. Hope all of you have a good Monday.
You never told us that you operated a food truck, Betty! Last week was Paul’s Pies, and this week it’s Betty’s Bowls. I have a funny feeling this is more than just a coincidence. 😉
Have a great start to your week, Betty!
Oh, Mike considering that I don’t like to cook, it would be a real stretch for me to own a food truck. I’d be very flattered to think the fellows named Paul’s Pies and Betty’s Bowls after us. Wishing you a good week too.
I’m hoping that’s the case, Betty. We’ll definitely know next Monday if the pattern continues!
I’ve never ordered a meal from a food truck before. I’ve purchased hot dogs, peanuts and ice creams from street carts though. You’re very fortunate to be in an area where there are so many food trucks available. Since you’re not a fan of cooking, you could choose a different entree each time and never order the same thing twice. I’d be in foodie heaven!!!
My thoughts exactly, Mike. My husband always used to say that the best thing i made for dinner was reservations. He was soo right.
That’s going to be my new favorite line, Betty! Too funny!
That was my first thought! That last week we had Paul, and this week Betty!
Oakland also has a popular food vendor called “Bakesale Betty.”
https://localwiki.org/oakland/Bakesale_Betty
That place looks really good to me, Steve. Interesting name since I don’t think of Betty as being a particularly popular name these days. I read somewhere that Betty is considered an “old” name since most Betty’s are over 60. There’s actually a Betty Club somewhere in the Midwest where they meet once a year. It’s for folks who are named just plain “Betty” and not Elizabeth. Picky picky. Maybe next week the puzzle will have someone named Steve.
Well, if there is, I hope he doesn’t try a caricature! 😂
I don’t think of Betty as an ‘old’ name, but I was just reading a comic where one of the characters said you don’t hear “Edna” anymore. I’d add Mildred and Gertrude, I guess.
By the way, Steph Curry of the Warriors will almost certainly break Wilt Chamberlain’s record tonight and become the all-time franchise leader in total points scored! He only needs 19 points.
Steph Curry is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Did you know that his wife Alesha has a restaurant in San Francisco called “International Smoke”? It’s in the financial district. Don’t know the status since the pandemic but my children and I ate there a couple of years ago and it was great.
Yes, I have heard of that, and they have a few other locations also.
Hi Betty…Good Morning…I was looking at past Food Cart puzzles this morning, and your use of “all the rage” triggered something, and made me go back for a second look. Here’s the puzzle of 12/18/19, https://tinyurl.com/umext44k And then scroll down to read your comment…https://tinyurl.com/ve2fc28e Such simpler times!…I miss them all too, and I hope things can go back to the way they were. Have a good one, Betty. Be well and stay safe out there…🥗🙋🏻♀️
Like others, flew through the words easily…but stumped by the puzzle answer today. But still patting myself on the shoulders for guessing “Bullion” before doing the words !!
Great job on getting BULLION the other day, Terry, That was a difficult solution to figure out — especially the spelling of BULLION! It’s early in the week, so you’ll have plenty of chances to redeem yourself. Best of luck! 🙂
Hi all – CANCEL took me a couple of jumbles; got the rest. I guessed APPEAL from the cartoon, leaving CURB to finish it.
Good wishes to everyone.
That 8-bit graphic of a truck in the voting panel makes me wonder whether it’s from an old video game, like the animation from “Duck Hunt” we saw recently.
“When it became apparent that the driver of the first float was too PLUMP to fit behind the wheel, he agreed to ABIDE by their decision to replace him lest they have to CANCEL the PARADE.”
It could have been from an early video game Steve. The large voting box requires a small graphic, so it limits what can be displayed.
I had a non Monday day,having been stumped first by the cancel anagram,then by the cartoon solution,when I thought the 4 letter word was pure rather than curb,thus preventing me getting the second word appeal solution as well.Not a good start to the week.
