🦾 The competition can be steep, and rivals need be matched,
Your size comes into play and your grip need be strong to catch…
Your opponent who loses his…your balance right on key,
You stare at him with EAGLE eyes…intimidating he…
You INHALE deeply and take hold, your arm braced and held tight,
Many an wrist has felt the THREW if you’re not gripping right…
Your arm upon the elbow pad, you hope results DIVINE,
And from the looks of our “guys” here…it’s she who seems most primed
The arm, the elbow and the wrist…it’s all within the bent
And going for the Championship…here they HELD AN EVENT! 🦾
“This is going to be GRIPping”! Kudos to the author of that one!
Be well, stay safe…and here’s hoping no one is up in ARMS today…🦾🙋🏻♀️
🦅 When the San Diego Zoo HELD AN EVENT, a keeper was gored when the talon of a bald EAGLE dug into his hand, and as he tried to INHALE, he THREW the bird in a display that wasn’t quite DIVINE…🦅
🥇 His want to be an EAGLE Scout, a dream to him DIVINE,
The thought of getting that medal…his pride would surely shine
As long as he THREW not a task, he’d earn his badges all,
The INHALE and the exhale as he hoped no err befall…
And when he’d reach the finish line…to Eagle he’d ascent
And then be honored next time that the troop HELD AN EVENT! 🥇
THREW/RETWH = Last used on 10/31/18 as WHETR
EAGLE/ALGEE = Last used on 01/20/20 as GALEE
INHALE/LAHNIE = Last used on 05/31/20 as LAIHEN
DIVINE/VINDIE = Last used on 10/09/19 as VINDIE
The answer for 10/27/20 jumble isn’t correct. The answer circles are 4 2 5, so over the top doesn’t fit.
Good morning. No problem with the words. I went straight down the line but paused at the cartoon answer. It took some time to finally come up with it. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
Happy Tuesday everyone! There weren’t any new clue words today. Both GALEE and VINDIE have been used in the past but neither of them took too much time to solve this time around. I’ve been stumped by EAGLE so many times in the past that it’s become instantly recognizable no matter what form it takes.
There’s plenty of action taking place in today’s cartoon with more characters than we’re typically used to seeing. The sign in the back of the room says “Arm Wrestling Championship” with 2 outstretched arms ready to tango. Is arm wrestling televised? If so, I’ve never seen it.
What caught my attention first was the look of determination on all of the participants faces. And then I noticed that all of their elbows seemed to be resting on Amazon Echo Dots. That can’t be comfortable! I did a quick search to see if these dots had an official name but all I could come up with was elbow pads. Quite appropriate!
The final solve was an anagram consisting of 11-letters. THE at the beginning of the layout is surely going to confuse some players this morning, but a quick self-scramble of the letters would instantly remedy that. I got lucky with the E, V and N in my anagram being close together so EVENT came to mind first. My leftovers spelled HANDLE and it only took a few seconds to latch onto AN for the finish. Take care and have a terrific Tuesday!
Held an event got me but the anagrams, even the vowel plenty ‘eagle’, were a quick solve.Have a safe and sane “Taco(?) Tuesday”.
Easy time of it with the anagrams this morning, not so much with the cartoon answer. Had to resort to paper and pencil to figure it out. Knew “an’ was the middle word so the last word had to begin with a vowel. Finally saw “event” so “held” was the obvious first word and of course they were holding hands to wrestle. Good mental workout. Happy Tuesday to all.
Hi Betty – Did you happen to see that we’re losing another iconic landmark – the giant Coca-Cola sign at Fifth and Bryant that’s been there since 1937?
Soda pressing…🤦🏻♀️
And even after they’d switched to LED’s to help us become a less carbon Nation.
👏🏻👏🏻! Lack of money..It’s bursting a lot of Bubbles..🤷🏻♀️
That’s actually the reason they gave – that they didn’t want to pay the rent on it anymore.
I know…It’s happening everywhere. Just as Betty was mentioning…NYC’s losing restaurants HAND over FIST. (No pun intended this time, although it’s terribly apropos)… Tons, and I mean tons, of them so far…and there’s more coming…or should I say going…It’s the reality of the pandemic. We’ve lost the iconic Roosevelt Hotel, after 100 years of being in business…I can’t believe that…Plus the Astor Place Barbershop…another NYC icon…closing its doors. And all those famous Broadway Theaters? The (in) famous NYC Real Estate is taking a shellacking. All the big cities are into it up to our ankles…😢
Good Grief Charlie Brown! I did not know that news. Everything is such a mess around here these days. I’m still bummed over the closing of two of my favorite restaurants: Alfred’s which has been around for 92 years, and Marcello’s a great Italian Restaurant out in the Parkside District. Keeping my fingers crossed that Tadish Grill and Tommy’s Joynt will reopen.
Some good news, then. The Chronicle and Mercury News both report that Tadich Grille is reopening for in person service on Nov 9, and Tommy’s Joynt likewise on Oct. 29, and they will be offering a scaled-down version of their Thanksgiving to-go special later.
Like others I got the anagrams immediately. I wasn’t happy with the solution, seemed too mundane. They usually come up with better…..
Mig…This is what crossed my mind when I read the puzzle..A little different BENT…After choosing the best arm wrestler, they gave him…TWO THUMBS UP 🦾🙋🏻♀️
I like your idea, Angela. I was angling for something with WRESTLE in it like ‘after losing the tournament he had to WRESTLE with the DISAPPOINTMENT…..
Damn fingernails!…As I was saying…Tks. And yours is clever too, but that’s a ton of letters…As a rule, I don’t think an answer exceeds like 17 letters. Not positive on that. Plus, you’d have to be careful not to have used the word “Wrestle” in the question. But as an answer, using “Wrestling with” something is a great play on words…🙋🏻♀️
Fingernails won’t help in arm wrestling competition either. Sort of a “wrist/reward” situation……….
👏🏻👏🏻! Nice one…But Arm Wrestling’s one “sport” I definitely take a pass on. I have enough trouble making a fist to do bloodwork! 💉🙋🏻♀️
I doubt that there’s a rule about answer length, but I’ve been on the lookout for anything longer than “Constitutionals” (15 letters) since I saw that, in the 80’s, I think.
I didn’t mean “rule” rule, per se…What I should have said was…rule of THUMB…Pun intended! But I didn’t say “one” 17-letter word. That’s a mouthful… I said the “answer’s” letters hardly exceed that number…🙋🏻♀️
Ah, right. I guess a limit might be that they have to fit all the answer circles in the newspaper!
IDK…It’s puzzling…😉🙋🏻♀️
Hi all – Got the words today. No idea about the answer until I wrote the letters and saw HELD; then the next word probably had to be AN, which showed EVENT.
Good wishes to everyone.
I have seen arm wrestling on TV, but certainly not very recently or very often; probably on a par with Australian Rules Football, darts and Jai alai. What’s the most obscure event you’ve every seen? (Even including the Olympics so you get things like target shooting and biathlon)
“When they HELD AN EVENT at the golf course, he was able to DIVINE the right path for his final putt, and when it dropped for an EAGLE he could INHALE and THREW his club high in the air.”
Paul…With only an hour left, I want to thank you for your service. Today is Navy Day. Sorry I forgot to tell you earlier. Hope you had a good one. ⚓️🙋🏻♀️
