THEY SAW THE POLLUTED AIR BY THE SMOKING SECTION AND DECIDED TO – – –

TA EA SCR LY = STAY CLEAR

Good Morning, Everyone! 🚬 SCAT EARLY? LET’S CLEAR THIS UP! 🚬

🎶 Now laughing friends deride…Tears I cannot hide…Oh, so I smile and say when a lovely flame dies…SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES…(Smoke gets in your eyes, smoke gets in your eyes)…SMOKE GETS IN YOUR EYES...🎶 “Smoke Gets In Your Eyes” –  The Platters  1958

🚬 As time goes by its hard to find a place where one can smoke,
And smokers, now like lepers…annoy guys like todays’ bloke…
Years gone by you could SCROLL a list where smoking was Ok,
But now one would be hard-pressed to ENACT what’s gone away
Folks fear they might get FLABBY, no smoking means more food,
(And QUOTA is the word today that’s causing me to brood)…
The bottom line, today’s puzzle…we see and we can hear
That smoking’s become taboo…and most Folks will just STAY CLEAR 🚬

So, welcome to our last Friday puzzle of the year…Of the decade actually…And it’s bringing us a repeat anagram that could choke a horse! CANTE! At first, it brought me back to my Latin days…but then it brought me to a landslide of previous appearances…and because I’m working with a time crunch, I only went back as far as 2010. (I seem to have this decade thing going on)! We last saw it exactly a year ago today, as Canet, but before that? April ’18, November ’17, June and July of ’16, April, May and June of ’15, and October 2010…CANTE all the way. What’re the odds? That’s a lot of acting out, isn’t it? I think this might be a first…And speaking of firsts…it doesn’t apply to any of our other words today either. All old favorites, and it’s QUOTA whose number is our newest…with a last showing on 03/16. And the Early Birds didn’t choke on any of our entries this morning. Ok…So, now that we’ve gotten that all cleared up, let’s cross over to our cartoon…

Today’s panel shows us four Jumble characters, two pro…two confounded by the presence of smokers. The couple, walking down a street, come across two men ensconced in a web of cigarette smoke…And while our question is telling us that the two men are standing in the “smoking section”, the air surrounding them is still polluted, and they’ve no intention of getting close to it. And I’m sure EEW can understand..They’d much rather cross the street, and STAY CLEAR of the AIRea altogether...TAR for the course if you ask me…

So, eye candy? It pretty much reeks for itself…But I will say this. If you look closely, the two imbibers both seem to have such a lazy, heavy-lidded look about them. Just throwin’ it out thAIR …So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…You know we always flame to please! 🚬🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Good Morning, Anonymous. Thank you…And we appreciate readers like you, who make it a pleasure for us to bring a little insight to our puzzles each day. Thank you for commenting, and I hope you’re having a great morning. 🚬🙋🏻‍♀️

  1. Love this site. Can’t remember the last time the final letters added up perfectly to different words that made alot of sense. Came hear to find out that the couple decided to ‘Stay Clear’ and NOT ‘Scat Early’. LOL

    • And I also like to do my own letter scramble in the morning before I have my coffee…. I came HERE to find out 🙂

      • Good Morning, Gibs….And some mornings you might have found us present and accounted for by this time, too….But the Holidays have definitely slowed down production, and it’ll probably be another few days before we’re back to a normal schedule. But we appreciate your readership, and we’re happy that you enjoy joining us in the morning. So, while I finish getting my thoughts together, I’ll join you in that cup of coffee…Check back in a little while, and hopefully you’ll love us even more! ☕️🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. Hi Everyone –
Like Gibs I saw “scat early.” I decided to stop there, even though the words didn’t seem to have quite the right ring.

    • Good Morning, Early Bird….I’m still dealing with the Sandman this morning…I may not recover from Christmas until after New Years! 😉 So, another Scat Early? Looks like we’re really going to have to CLEAR the air today, huh? 😉 Ok, Caroline, I better clear the cobwebs and get back to writing a post! And it’s nice to see you so early in the morning! 🚬🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. 🏃🏻‍♂️Instead of deciding to STAY CLEAR of the group after they called him FLABBY, he let his eyes SCROLL down the list of names…and felt they could meet a QUOTA if they had to…he wasn’t the only guy overweight…in fact, they could ENACT a Weight Watchers commercial without batting an eye…🏃🏻‍♂️

🤷🏻‍♂️He had to meet a QUOTA, if he was to get a SCROLL,
And asking for donations had begun to take its toll…
His job a little FLABBY, not really up to par,
He knew he should work harder or he’d never get too far
He wished he could ENACT the ways the others all held dear…
It’s time to up his game before they tell him to STAY CLEAR 🤷🏻‍♂️

  4. I saw cast early. It doesn’t make much sense, unless they were (are) on their way to an audition, but that’s what I saw.

    • Good Morning, Chuck. I guess it’s the word EARLY that everyone’s gleaning from the letters, and then going with what letters are left. I solve by the dialogue clues and the cartoon, so I immediately “saw” CLEAR, with the AIR being so polluted, and the couple looking to cross the street…CLEAR THE AIR…STAY CLEAR away from the smoke…But it’s interesting that Early’s having such a showing so far this morning. It remains to be seen how many others go down that same street…(pun intended)! Too EARLY to be CASTing any aspersions! 😂🙋🏻

  5. Stay clear was numero uno without a thought of scatting (unless they were coming out of a jazz club). Have a good day and yes I’m out there keeping an eye on this blog

    • We’ve mention of an audition…and now a jazz club! Too bad I didn’t choose a song by Miss Ella Fitz, huh? 😉 Good Morning, Jim. Long time no see…Glad to know you’re well, and glad to hear that you’re keeping an eye on us…And don’t STAY CLEAR…I’ve missed your witty repartee! Have a good one, Jim! 🚬🙋🏻

      • I’ll get back in form sooner than later. Very busy mornings have precluded repartee in exchange for work related productivity. Not ready to slow down as my goal to stay clear of the office keeps getting clouded while trying to improve regional systems. Miles to go before I sleep – and many more jumbles as well…

        • Work is good. Gives one a sense of purpose. And as long as you enjoy it…why not? Miles to go, indeed! 👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Good morning. Not much trouble today but my choice for hardest word was Enact. The others were first glances where this took longer than all combined The cartoon answer was clearly visible once all the letters were in view. Angela, you threw a touchdown with your song choice. It transported me back to boot camp and writing my then girlfriend about the day’s activities. It amazes me that when I hear a lot of these old songs I can tell you where I was when I first heard it. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. That’s the whole point of music…transporting us back to a time and place…and stirring up all those memories. Know what first came to my mind? That those old nuns were right at those school dances…walking around separating all of us as we were dancing💃🏻 to these oldies…😉 Talk about mood music! Didn’t matter if it was the late ‘70’s or the late 50’s..I’m sure.the effect was just the same!!! 😂😂 You needed a smoke! LOL! Thanks for the Shout Out, Paul. It always was and always will be one of my favorite old love songs…And I hope I brought you a happy memory this morning. As for ENACT, it’s leading the others in the poll, so once again, you’re in good company. Have a great day, Brooklyn. Here’s to 🎶humming the song all day! 🚬🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Like my favorite car — a 1948 Mercury Club Coupe — steering through Jumble each AM gets me a jumple start to the day. Happy Jumbling!

    • ….And PS, Mike. I did catch your STEERing through and the JUMPle start…Well played, Sir! 👏🏻👏🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

    • 🎵”Crazy ‘bout a Mercury
Cruuuuise, up and down that road!”🎵
      1948 was a great year, too! 😉😂🙋🏻‍♂️

  8. Back home in central Illinois, not in Indiana, for a real version of the newspaper.Enact did give me reason to pause, but given its letters ,stay clear was a quick solve.

    • Good Morning, Professor. Yes, it was. Glad you’re getting some time to relax. Have a great day. 🚬🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Hi all – Yep, one more vote for SCAT EARLY (or CAST EARLY). I never did get the answer; no problem with the words.

Have a great day everyone! Enjoy the warmth – looks like Illinois and New York are warmer than Calif. (35 degrees here overnight).

Speaking of jazz Angela, I guess the music at Peet’s is just out of sync. This morning it sounded like a typical soft jazz combo in a cocktail lounge; piano, bass and guitar, but then I realized they were playing an almost unrecognizable version of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.” That’s ok Peet, it’s the thought that counts! 😂

“Using an official SCROLL, the vegan mayor decided to ENACT a strict QUOTA on fast-food restaurants when he saw all the citizens getting way too FLABBY”.

  10. SCAT EARLY? They need to do that before it really gets smoky. In any case, it’s a SCARY TALE.

    • …And I’m STAYing CLEAR of that! 😉 Have a good one, Jim! 🚬🙋🏻‍♀️

  11. No problem with the words but another story with the cartoon answer. I just figured it out after walking away for a couple of hours. Good workout for an end of the year puzzle. Happy Friday to all.
