AT A LOSS FOR WORDS

Good Morning, Everyone!          🔠  OK, SPELL IT OUT FOR ME…🔠

🎶 Talk in everlasting WORDS and dedicate them all to me…And I will give you all my life, I’m here if you should call to me. You think that I don’t even mean a single WORD I say…It’s only WORDS, and WORDS are all I have….to take your heart away🎶  “Words” – The Bee Gees    1977

🔠 When one enjoys a love of words, a Scrabble game is great,
You spell a word like WALRUS and there begins your spate…
It gets into your SYSTEM, you fall under its’ spell,
No pun intended, winning’s sought come high water or hell.
Some people say this game of skill, a FOSSIL has become,
But I for one play every day, be GLOOMY or with sun
I LOOSEN up the cobwebs that can sometimes cloud my mind,
I get to spell out DRAGON…and excitement’s what I find…
And on those rare occasions when the syllables reach third?
I know for one I’ll never be dubbed AT A LOSS FOR WORDS! 🔠

Words! What more can I say? Plenty, actually…Since today’s solution is something I’ll never be accused of! And with a Scrabble board full of them, I’m in Heaven…so I’ve decided not to SPELL out all the details of our entries today, and just tell you that they’re all Sweet Repeats, with DRAGON holding a DOUBLE WORD position, oldest – 09/04/10, and newest, 04/25/19....And now, all aBOARD for a logophiles delight!

Today’s puzzle brings us into the home of Jeff’s parents, Mary Lou and Tom, who you may recognize from a puzzle published about a year ago. (That day, just as a quirk, I happened to name the man Tom…but tongue in cheek…the woman Geri. Ironically, we later went on to find out that they were Jeff’s parents, and that his Father’s name was indeed Tom). Engaged in a game of SCRABBLE, we see that Tom is doing quite well, while Mary Lou’s thinking…”Pat, may I buy a vowel”?! The poor woman is holding 7 consonants, not all troublesome, but again, without a vowel? It’s a stretch…(Thank God she doesn’t have the “C” though..That C is a killer) And even though Tom is being the ultimate gentleman, by saying that he “just got lucky with his letters”, Mary Lou is still faced with J,W,K,V,P,L and H...she’s definitely…AT A LOSS FOR WORDS! And yes, I made this short, because today it’s all about the cartoon. Not that David hasn’t given us a great solution, cute and clever…he has, but this cartoon? A gem! Ok…Let me SPELL it all out for you…

First of all, Tom’s holding amazing tiles. A, M, B, Y, S, and L. I’d pay good money for tiles like these. Just off the top of my head, I’ve come up with 5 2-letter words, 6 3-letter words, (with another possibility), 2 4-letter words, and 2 5’s. Thats 15 words, and that’s without really thinking. And if he’s lucky enough to draw another A?...The man has a “ABYSMAL”. Abysmal!!! Are you kidding me? It’s a Treasure Trove! Mary Lou? She could do LOP, or WOK, or PLY, or WHY, or PLOW, and probably a few others, but looking at the board, I doubt she’ll score enough to make a dent. And according to the score sheet that Tom’s keeping, she’s down 58 to his 262. That’s a lot of catching up to do. But that board? It’s amazing…And I’ll tell you what it’s reading…Going across: Plate, Elms, Quilts, Envied, Zone, Be, and Odd. Down: Eject, Jigs, Queeny, Board...and…Guess what? There’s one more: “SIEZED”. Only thing is…it’s mispelt! It should be “SEIZED.”..And with that, I’ve Seized my Eye Candy! So, what now? Maybe Mary Lou has a shot at this after all, doesn’t she? Recount…Mary Lou…demand a recount! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And remember…Sure, we all learned the “I” before “E”, except after “C”, etc…BUT like it or not, there’s exceptions, Folks, EXCEPTIONS! 🔠🙋🏻

  1. Good morning. Today’s jumble was easy from the words to the cartoon answer. System and Walrus took a second look to get and for the cartoon answer I worked backwards to solve it. Couldn’t get a blind solve on that. Ah Angela, you make me smile often. Loved the video song. Couldn’t have picked a better one. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Thank you, as you do me..😘..You’re like a ray of sunshine in the morning! It is an easy one today, and very clever. And the cartoon is exceptionally well done.
Thanks for the Shout Out, it’s a great song. I’m pretty sure I used it recently, but I still went with it because it just fit so well. I’m glad you enjoyed it. You do know you’re the first one I consider when a song pops into my head, right? 😉 So….you could have made a few dollars with the Yanks losing, huh? Well you know what? You can still rub that guys nose in it a little…he made the wrong choice. Tough loss though…but tip of the cap to Houston. It is what it is. Anyway, it’s Sunday, and I’m elbow deep in meatballs…besides being so behind schedule, as usual. And I’m still trying to come up with a second rhyme..So, I’m NOT at a loss for words,😂😂, but I am at a loss for time! Have a great day, Brooklyn! 🔠🙋🏻

      • Angela you have me missing a lot of fond Sunday memories. I said my wife and I lived next door to each other when we were kids and Sundays were special for me because besides my dinner, my then girlfriend would also bring over a plate of macaroni with meatballs and sausages. She knew way back then that the way to a mans heart (in this case,a boy) was through his stomach. Ah, the best of times. Take care.

      • Brooklyn, You’ve brought a tear to my eyes..and I know it’s not the onions! You are so sweet….It is like a religion with us, well the traditionalists amongst us anyway. I don’t think I’ll ever stop doing my “gravy” on Sunday…(but you forgot the braciole)! 😉 And I do remember you telling me once before how you’d have your two dinners on Sunday. I thought that was so endearing. Especially that you were just kids. The way to a man’s heart? I suppose my lasagna has gotten me over a time or two, 😂 but I’m a lot like you. I still think of the “best of times” when I’d cook for my Parents ❤️💔 and Grandparents instead of this flock of vultures😂 that I do for now! Memories, yep. Life, huh? Stay well, Brooklyn…and hey, you never know. Maybe one of these days I’ll send some Neapolitan Gold 😉 out your way…🍝🙋🏻

  2. This was a real tough one today…These WORDS have no RHYME or reason…And I was almost AT A LOSS FOR WORDS…ALMOST! 😘🙋🏻

⚡️💦With a storm SYSTEM moving in, and the day being so GLOOMY, the Zoo, where her kids were excitedly looking forward to the WALRUS exhibit, was now out of the question…so she decided to LOOSEN up their schedule and do something indoors…either the new movie about the DRAGON, or perhaps the Museum to see FOSSIL bones…but she was AT A LOSS FOR WORDS as to how she’d break it to the kids…💦⚡️

🎃The chapter about FOSSIL fuel was boring to no end,
She raced her way all through it, then ran to meet her friend…
They needed to get started on the costumes for the kids,
The SYSTEM they’d devised up now was falling on the skids.
So many things to still get done, and not much room to LOOSEN…
They wondered if they’d have the time…’cause now they were just cruisin’…
Who wanted something DRAGON-like, and who mentioned a WALRUS,
These kids were getting out of hand…and making way too much fuss…
What used to be a lot of fun was getting GLOOMY quick,
And Halloween was looking like less treat and much more trick…
Maybe it’s time to tell the kids that things are quite absurd…
The only thing is, they feel bad…and AT A LOSS FOR WORDS🎃

  3. Hi all – Two double letter tricks with ‘O’ today. I saw LESSON before the O’s showed LOOSEN, and DRAGON took me the longest. With those tiles, I thought the woman might have to “get a word in edgewise.” WORD or WORDS had to be in the answer, and I got it from the layout.

Thanks for the graduate seminar in Scrabble Angela! I’ve never played very much and I found the details interesting and fun – and great catch on the misspelling. I briefly thought about making a sentence with the puzzle’s Scrabble words, but it seemed a little *too* geeky (not to mention difficult!)

    Have a great Sunday, everyone!

“The drilling SYSTEM enabled the archeological team to LOOSEN the FOSSIL in the GLOOMY pit, only to discover that what had looked like a DRAGON was just an ancient WALRUS relative.” (It was the eggman; it was the Walrus; Goo Goo ka Choo!)

    • A sentence? With all those WORDS on the board? It’d have to be a short story! 😉 ..Hmm. I do like the challenge, though! 😉But how fascinating seeing them all, right? Impeccably done… As for the misspelling? C’mon…It stuck out like a sore thumb! My eye was immediately DRAWN to it! 😉 But I can’t believe you’ve hardly played Scrabble. I know I told you that I really do play every day, on my iPad. Against the iPad. It’s a great way to keep the mind sharp, and yes, I’m cut throat! 😂😂 And your sentence has me laughing! 👏🏻👏🏻! Goo goo g’joob to you too, G! Have a good one! (That’s a lot of G’s)! 😉🙋🏻

  4. Steve…For you. I couldn’t get it all into one sentence, but I wasn’t AT A LOSS FOR WORDS! Here’s to a great day! 😂🙋🏻

Feeling as if she were in the Twilight ZONE, she sat under the ELMS, bundled up in QUILTS, eating grapes from a plastic PLATE, and ENVIED the others…Could she ever BE like them, or was she just too ODD to fit in? They already took to calling her QUEENY because she walked with such a BOARD-like posture, but she never felt confident enough to have SEIZED the moments when they presented themselves, and defiantly call out “The JIGS up, you can’t think just because you EJECT me from your group that I’m done for”…
