Good Morning, Everyone! 🔠 OK, SPELL IT OUT FOR ME…🔠
🎶 Talk in everlasting WORDS and dedicate them all to me…And I will give you all my life, I’m here if you should call to me. You think that I don’t even mean a single WORD I say…It’s only WORDS, and WORDS are all I have….to take your heart away🎶 “Words” – The Bee Gees 1977
🔠 When one enjoys a love of words, a Scrabble game is great,
You spell a word like WALRUS and there begins your spate…
It gets into your SYSTEM, you fall under its’ spell,
No pun intended, winning’s sought come high water or hell.
Some people say this game of skill, a FOSSIL has become,
But I for one play every day, be GLOOMY or with sun
I LOOSEN up the cobwebs that can sometimes cloud my mind,
I get to spell out DRAGON…and excitement’s what I find…
And on those rare occasions when the syllables reach third?
I know for one I’ll never be dubbed AT A LOSS FOR WORDS! 🔠
Words! What more can I say? Plenty, actually…Since today’s solution is something I’ll never be accused of! And with a Scrabble board full of them, I’m in Heaven…so I’ve decided not to SPELL out all the details of our entries today, and just tell you that they’re all Sweet Repeats, with DRAGON holding a DOUBLE WORD position, oldest – 09/04/10, and newest, 04/25/19....And now, all aBOARD for a logophiles delight!
Today’s puzzle brings us into the home of Jeff’s parents, Mary Lou and Tom, who you may recognize from a puzzle published about a year ago. (That day, just as a quirk, I happened to name the man Tom…but tongue in cheek…the woman Geri. Ironically, we later went on to find out that they were Jeff’s parents, and that his Father’s name was indeed Tom). Engaged in a game of SCRABBLE, we see that Tom is doing quite well, while Mary Lou’s thinking…”Pat, may I buy a vowel”?! The poor woman is holding 7 consonants, not all troublesome, but again, without a vowel? It’s a stretch…(Thank God she doesn’t have the “C” though..That C is a killer) And even though Tom is being the ultimate gentleman, by saying that he “just got lucky with his letters”, Mary Lou is still faced with J,W,K,V,P,L and H...she’s definitely…AT A LOSS FOR WORDS! And yes, I made this short, because today it’s all about the cartoon. Not that David hasn’t given us a great solution, cute and clever…he has, but this cartoon? A gem! Ok…Let me SPELL it all out for you…
First of all, Tom’s holding amazing tiles. A, M, B, Y, S, and L. I’d pay good money for tiles like these. Just off the top of my head, I’ve come up with 5 2-letter words, 6 3-letter words, (with another possibility), 2 4-letter words, and 2 5’s. Thats 15 words, and that’s without really thinking. And if he’s lucky enough to draw another A?...The man has a “ABYSMAL”. Abysmal!!! Are you kidding me? It’s a Treasure Trove! Mary Lou? She could do LOP, or WOK, or PLY, or WHY, or PLOW, and probably a few others, but looking at the board, I doubt she’ll score enough to make a dent. And according to the score sheet that Tom’s keeping, she’s down 58 to his 262. That’s a lot of catching up to do. But that board? It’s amazing…And I’ll tell you what it’s reading…Going across: Plate, Elms, Quilts, Envied, Zone, Be, and Odd. Down: Eject, Jigs, Queeny, Board...and…Guess what? There’s one more: “SIEZED”. Only thing is…it’s mispelt! It should be “SEIZED.”..And with that, I’ve Seized my Eye Candy! So, what now? Maybe Mary Lou has a shot at this after all, doesn’t she? Recount…Mary Lou…demand a recount! So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone…And remember…Sure, we all learned the “I” before “E”, except after “C”, etc…BUT like it or not, there’s exceptions, Folks, EXCEPTIONS! 🔠🙋🏻
