PLANT MANAGER

WELCOME BACK,

PUZZLE PLAYERS!

🪴 ROOT CAUSE

Today’s cartoon takes us to a bustling garden center where a growing business is looking for someone to help oversee its expanding operation. As the owner explains that the nursery has simply become too large for one person to handle, an experienced applicant confidently assures him she’s more than ready to take on the challenge. ➤ THE BOSS WITH THE GREEN THUMB

The owner is wearing a baseball cap with sideburns peeking out beneath it, along with a mustache. He has on a short-sleeved collared shirt and gardening gloves as he explains how the nursery has grown too large for one person to manage.

➤ READY TO SET DOWN ROOTS

The applicant wears a visor with a small earring visible beneath her curly hair, and a short-sleeved zip-up V-neck shirt. Her right thumb points toward herself, indicating she’s the right person for the job.

➤ A GREENHOUSE IN FULL BLOOM

Behind them stretches a spacious greenhouse filled with rows upon rows of plants in all shapes and sizes. Four employees are visible throughout the nursery, each performing different gardening tasks.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 12-letter anagram that solved into a 5 + 7 layout. Our second-to-last puzzle of the workweek was an instant solve for me. One look at the greenhouse brought the word PLANT to mind. Then, with the dialogue centered around hiring someone, MANAGER was effortless to fill in, allowing this one to wrap up in a hurry. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the greenhouse overflowing with plants, making PLANT the natural first word, while the owner’s explanation that he needed someone to oversee the place pointed toward MANAGER.
