🍃 Limb-Itless Possibilites

Today’s cartoon introduces us to a couple of young offshoots who seem to have their entire future mapped out. One talks about growing strong over the years, while the other is already looking forward to sharing the journey for a long time to come. Between the big plans, the deep roots, and the commitment to staying right where they are, these little sprouts don’t appear to be going anywhere anytime soon.

➤ BRANCH MANAGEMENT

Today’s cartoon focuses on a single tree and its two newest offshoots. Below them sits a fallen limb on the ground, complete with X-shaped eyes and a frown where it snapped away from the trunk. A few exposed roots and scattered tufts of grass complete the scene.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was an 11-letter anagram that solved into a 5 + 6 layout. I’ve got to admit that today’s solve had me a little stumped. When I see a puzzle about trees, I instantly start looking for the usual suspects: LIMB, TRUNK, BRANCH, and sometimes BARK. None of those familiar answers showed up this time, which left me scratching my head a bit longer than expected. Once those possibilities fell away, the K started standing out. From there, the dialogue between the two offshoots pointed toward the idea of staying together. That’s when STICK finally came into focus, and once it was in place, it was no trouble to spot AROUND. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our biggest nudge was the cartoon’s focus on the two young STICKS and their conversation about being AROUND for a while.

🪵 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Trees

➤ How much of a tree is actually alive?
Only about 1% to 10% of a mature tree is living tissue. Most of what we think of as the trunk is older support wood, while the thin layer just beneath the bark handles the tree’s growth and nutrient transport.
SOURCE
➤ How much water can a large tree move in a day?
A mature tree can move roughly 50 to 100 gallons of water per day from the ground into the atmosphere through its leaves. During a hot summer, that can add up to thousands of gallons and help cool the surrounding area.
SOURCE
➤ How much oxygen does one tree produce?
A healthy mature tree can produce enough oxygen each year to support about two people. An acre of mature trees can generate enough oxygen annually for roughly 18 people while also helping remove carbon dioxide from the air.
SOURCE
➤ How old is the oldest known living tree?
Some Great Basin bristlecone pines are estimated to be more than 4,800 years old. One documented tree exceeded 5,000 years, making it among the oldest known living organisms on Earth.
SOURCE
➤ How much of Earth’s land is covered by forests?
Forests cover approximately 31% of Earth’s land surface and contain an estimated 3 trillion trees. That works out to roughly 375 trees for every person on the planet.
