The final answer was a 16-letter anagram that solved into a 4 + “4” + 4 + “4” layout. At first glance, the layout looked like it was going to take some extra digging before anything meaningful started coming together. With the layout being four separate four-letter sections, though, I started thinking the answer probably repeated itself somewhere along the way. The cartoon setup mentioning small burrowing insectivores had me thinking MOLE was likely going to be one of the repeated words, and once I pulled MOLE out of the mix twice, it didn’t take long to repeat the procedure with SAME to finish it off.
