🕳️ TUNNEL VISION

Today’s cartoon brings us underground, where we see two moles carving their way through another day. One wonders if anything different is on the schedule, but the reply makes it clear this burrowing duo already knows exactly how the rest of the day is going to play out. Between the twisting tunnels, freshly made pathways, and nonstop digging, these little critters seem perfectly content sticking to their usual routine.

➤ THE LOWER TUNNEL

The mole on the left appears to have traveled down the long vertical tunnel before popping up into an upper chamber where the second mole has been digging.

➤ DISHING DIRT

The other mole is positioned in an upper chamber, sitting back while answering the question.

➤ THE UNDERGROUND SCENE

The cartoon shows an underground cutaway of the tunnel system with winding chambers and pathways connecting throughout the dirt. Along the surface are patches of grass, exposed roots hanging down into the soil, and what appears to be a dandelion stretching upward with its root system visible below ground.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 16-letter anagram that solved into a 4 + “4” + 4 + “4” layout. At first glance, the layout looked like it was going to take some extra digging before anything meaningful started coming together. With the layout being four separate four-letter sections, though, I started thinking the answer probably repeated itself somewhere along the way. The cartoon setup mentioning small burrowing insectivores had me thinking MOLE was likely going to be one of the repeated words, and once I pulled MOLE out of the mix twice, it didn’t take long to repeat the procedure with SAME to finish it off. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the cartoon sentence indirectly pointing toward MOLE through the burrowing insectivore description, along with the dialogue stating that the two were planning to spend another day doing the exact SAME thing all over again.

⛏️ Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Moles

➤ How much can a mole dig in a day?
A single mole can dig up to 18 feet of tunnel in a single day while searching for food underground. Their front paws work like miniature shovels, allowing them to push through dirt surprisingly fast for such a small animal.
SOURCE
➤ How often do moles need to eat?
Moles eat constantly and can consume close to their full body weight every single day. Earthworms are their favorite meal, and some moles even store living worms underground for later by biting them just enough to keep them from escaping.
SOURCE
➤ Are moles actually blind?
Moles are not blind, but their eyesight is extremely limited because they spend nearly their entire lives underground. Their tiny eyes can still detect light and movement, which helps them tell whether they are near the surface or staying protected below ground.
