🔥 GRATE MATES
Today’s cartoon drops us into a backyard cookout where a trio of grill masters are ready to cook up some good food and enjoy a great day around the barbecue. One guy signals that his grill is ready to go, the second flashes a confident thumbs up, and seeing the whole crew ready to start cooking, the third declares that this is going to be their best barbecue yet. Between the smoky grills, the rising flames, and the anticipation of a meal fresh off the grill, this cookout has the kind of energy that can ignite a crowd in a hurry.

➤ THE FIRE STARTER
The first guy has his hair pulled back and has a goatee. His left hand holds a lighter fluid bottle with flames and wood printed on the label, while his right hand holds a stick lighter. His grill is the classic round charcoal style with three legs and flames rising upward.
➤ THUMBS-UP TIME
The second guy is wearing a sleeveless shirt along with a snapback-style hat while signaling that he’s ready with a thumbs up with his left hand. His grill matches the first one with the same shape and legs.
➤ THE GRILL MASTER
The third guy is bald, wearing a short-sleeved shirt, holding a spatula in his left hand, and giving a thumbs up with the other. His grill appears to be a large drum cut in half with a grate stretched across the top. Just to his left sits a small prep table holding what appears to be burgers and hot dogs on a plate, and behind him is a gas-style grill with control knobs and an ignition button visible on the front.
🧠 FINAL SOLVE
The final answer was a 10-letter anagram that solved into a 3 + 5 + 2 layout. Our Memorial Day puzzle went down faster than a medium-rare ribeye. I really didn’t have much of a guess at the answer right away, so I worked through the clue words first. Looking at the cartoon, you couldn’t help but notice the flames shooting up out of the grill grates, making FIRE feel like a safe bet. With those letters removed from the mix, UP quickly revealed itself, leaving ALL and the D sitting there to seal the deal. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the flames from the grills, along with the men’s comments making it clear that everybody and everything was ALL FIRED UP.

This feels like somebody finally stopped pretending ice cream needed to wait until after dinner. The strawberries and bananas keep it light, the creamy texture still gives it that frozen dessert feel, and it comes together looking like something that belongs next to a pool on Memorial Day weekend.
