CARTOON ANSWER:

IN THE SAME BOAT

🚣 Oar Deal

Today’s cartoon drops us out on the water where the motor has officially called it quits, and now it is full on arm power. The guy at the oars is already feeling it, making it clear just how exhausting this whole rowing situation has become, while his buddy in the back is not exactly handing out sympathy, making it clear he has already done his fair share. That pretty much says it all about how the trip back has been going so far. With plenty of water ahead, no easy way out, and no changing the situation now, they are both stuck in it together.

🔎 Jumble Jeff’s Jems

➤ AT THE OARS

The guy up front is working the oars with motion lines showing the pace. He’s wearing a mesh snapback hat with a T-shirt and pants. There are drops of sweat coming off both sides of his forehead.

➤ TAKING A BREATHER

The man behind him is taking a breather with a phone in his left hand. He’s wearing a bucket hat, sunglasses, a full beard, along with a T-shirt and pants.

➤ STILL A WAYS OUT

Open water surrounds the boat with land off in the distance. Jumble Jeff’s sailboat is visible farther out on the water in a similar situation.

🧠 Final Solve

The final answer was a 13-letter anagram that solved into a 2 + 3 + 4 + 4 layout. This one gave me a sinking feeling when nothing initially popped into view. The layout was extremely well scrambled and tough to find a starting point. I initially tried to force ON and HIS, but that didn’t get me anywhere. Circling back and starting over, I looked at the scene again, focusing on the water this time. The B locked in BOAT, and once those letters were out of the mix, the rest of the answer flowed naturally for the finish. Definitely my first real stumper of the week. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, the emphasis on the motor giving out and both of them being stuck out there together were the nudges that pointed in the right direction.

🚣 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Rowing

➤ Why do rowers face backward?
Rowers face backward so they can apply maximum force through the oars, using their legs, core, and arms in one continuous motion. This positioning allows them to generate more power with each stroke, even though it means relying on rhythm and coordination rather than direct forward visibility.
SOURCE
➤ What makes rowing such a full-body workout?
Rowing engages nearly every major muscle group, starting with a powerful leg drive, followed by the core stabilizing the motion, and finishing with the arms pulling through. This sequence repeats with each stroke, making it one of the most efficient full-body exercises in both sport and training.
SOURCE
➤ How important is timing in rowing?
Timing is everything in rowing, as each rower must match the exact rhythm of the stroke cycle to keep the boat moving efficiently. Even slight differences in timing can disrupt the flow and slow the boat down, which is why synchronized movement is a defining part of the sport.
