PUZZLE PLAYERS!

🌳 STAYING ROOTED

Today’s cartoon brings us into a yard where a man strikes up an unusual conversation with an oak tree. With a cabin nearby and the idea of chopping it down on the table, he compares ending up in a fireplace to cremation. The tree doesn’t like that direction at all and quickly pushes back, saying it would rather stay right where it is. Between the look on its face and the way it answers, it’s clear this tree has no interest in going up in flames.

➤ THE MAN

We see a man walking in his yard holding a walking stick in his left hand. He’s wearing glasses, a hat with the ear flaps up, and a sweater.

➤ THE TREE AND THE SQUIRREL

The oak tree looks old with deep lines in the trunk and a hollowed-out section for a mouth. A squirrel is sitting on the branch above, watching the conversation.

➤ THE BACKGROUND

In the background, we see the man’s home with a pile of firewood stacked to the right of it. There are bushes nearby and a hollow log on the ground.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was an 8-letter anagram that solved into a 1 + “4” + 3 layout. The second word was in quotes, and looking at the length of it, WOOD and KNOT came to mind based on the visual of the oak tree. Once I solved CLOWN and got the W from it, everything started to come together for a smooth Monday finish. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the giant oak tree, the pile of cut wood beside the man’s home, and the tree’s reaction to the idea.
