CARTOON ANSWER:

TAKE INTO
HAPPY SUNDAY
PUZZLE PLAYERS!
💰 INTEREST OVERLOAD

Today’s cartoon takes us inside a banker’s office where a couple is getting the full menu of financial options laid out in front of them. Savings, checking, money market, you name it, this guy has a pitch ready. She is clearly impressed, but also a little overwhelmed, while he says he is going to need some time to think it over before making any decisions. With that many choices on the table and numbers flying around, it is clear this decision is not something you rush through.

🔎 Jumble Jeff’s Jems

➤ THE BANKER

Our banker today is David L. Hoyt, the wordsmith behind the Jumble, and he is seated at a desk wearing a suit and tie with glasses. One hand is extended as he presents the options, while the other points toward a sheet of notes on the desk that is grouped in boxes resembling scrambled puzzle clues.

➤ THE COUPLE

The woman is seated with hair that falls to about her shoulders, wearing square-framed glasses and a V-neck blouse over a T-shirt underneath. Beside her, the man is seated with a mustache and a short-sleeved V-neck shirt, with both of them facing the banker across the desk.

➤ THE BACKGROUND

Behind the banker, a large vault door fills the left side of the room.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 15-LETTER ANAGRAM that solved into a 4 + 4 + 7 LAYOUT. The layout was quite lengthy, but that is to be expected for a Sunday. The double O’s near the end of the layout made me first think of “took,” but it did not take long to realize it had to be TAKE INTO ACCOUNT instead. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, the banker mentioning the different account options along with the man saying he would need time to think it over were the nudges that helped bring it all into focus.

💵 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: About Money

➤ What is the average lifespan of a $1 bill?
The average lifespan of a $1 bill is about 6.6 years, since it is the most commonly used piece of currency and constantly changes hands. With all the folding, stuffing into wallets, and everyday use, it wears down much faster than higher denominations and has to be replaced more often by the Federal Reserve.

➤ Why do U.S. coins have ridges along the edges?
U.S. coins have ridges along the edges because they were originally designed to prevent people from shaving off small amounts of valuable metal like gold and silver. Even though modern coins are no longer made from those metals, the ridges remain as a built-in security feature and a lasting tradition in coin design.

➤ What is the largest bill ever printed in the U.S.?
The largest bill ever printed in the United States was the $100,000 gold certificate, which featured Woodrow Wilson and was used only for transactions between Federal Reserve banks. It was never released into public circulation, making it one of the most unusual pieces of U.S. currency ever created.
