A SOURCE OF AMUSEMENT, ENJOYMENT OR PLEASURE” CAN BE CONSIDERED A – – –

  1. Good Morning, Everyone…I hope this finds you well…
📝 LOOKS LIKE OUR BOY’S GONE FROM BAD TO VERSE! 📝

🎶 Who’s always writing on the wall?…Who’s always GOOFIN’ in the hall?…Who’s always throwin’ spit balls?…Guess who (who, me?) Yeah, you!… Charlie Brown, Charlie Brown…HE’S A CLOWN, that Charlie Brown…He’s gonna get caught, just you wait and see…(Why’s everybody always pickin’ on me?)…🎶 “Charlie Brown” – The Coasters 1959 https://tinyurl.com/35j62m5v – Part 2 *

📝 So once again we see Alfred, today ‘long with his Dad,
Expulsion from the Library? It hasn’t made him sad…
No SHROUD of shame for this kid here, he’s actually amused,
To write a paper ‘bout his love…jokes and just how they’re used…
A great title would be…”A-MAIZE-D…A List of “Corn”-y Jokes”,
But it may not be realized by our perhaps too young bloke…
And notice there’s no chastising from Dad since he is seen,
With an ICONIC issue of beloved Mad Magazine…
(I’m left with FLINT, ironically, since Rocky’s the Dad’s name,
But there’s no way it fits the bill…it’s left from whence it came)…
Suffice to say this family lives steeped in a tradition…
    Our boy’s just like his Father…they’re jokesters…by “DE-FUN-ITION”! 📝

Ok…So…Here’s the deal. Today, we have the pleasure of revisiting our budding comic from yesterday, in a rarely seen two-part Jumble arc. And from our dialogue, we seem to get some insight into where our boy gets his comedic chops. ApPARENTly he’s following in his Dad’s FOOTsteps…and if this keeps up, the kid’ll definitely be a SHOE-in for a career in comedy. Having been ousted from the Library for SHELVing decorum, he’s assigned writing a paper on jokes in order to get back into the Librarian’s good graces. But instead of BOOKING, he’s going at it full THEME ahead! And his Father is envious! It’s definitely a funny gREAD, though… The kid’s a regular SNIP off the old ROCK!

Our solve? It couldn’t be easier to DEFINE. Alfred’s holding a DICTIONARY. The monitor shows the word DICTIONARY…where one looks for DEFINITIONS…And what’s showing on the screen is our question…So since we’re talking “amusement, enjoyment and pleasure”? = FUN…And there’s those quotation marks alluding to a TALE of Two WITTIES?…It’s “DE-FUN-ITION” we’re looking for today…You gotta LAUGH! …

…And now for the real show stopper. Yesterday I spoke about Al Jaffee, https://tinyurl.com/6haefxh8 who was featured on the cover of the Mad Magazine that little Alfred had. Today, we see what may be the same issue in his Dad Rocky’s hand…opened to the Fold-In feature, https://tinyurl.com/3scbnwat which Mr Jaffee created in 1964, and was so well known for…And if you look real, real closely you’ll see that it’s this… https://tinyurl.com/mtn2x7j4 the Fold-In by Johnny Sampson, https://tinyurl.com/ytaac6vf celebrating Al’s 98th Birthday. Johnny, a Guest Jumbler from last November, https://tinyurl.com/6c5375y3 is the man Al passed the Fold-In torch to, in the Summer of 2020….And you’ll notice something else if you really study Johnny’s artwork against Jeff’s. While there’s a sailboat depicted in the former, in Jeff’s rendition it’s sinking! That Jeff..,ever the COMIC!

So…There you have it, Folks…Done. Have a good one. Be well, be kind, stay safe…And this has me thinking…is this Johnny we’re seeing…as the boy or the Father? Maybe…but I’m too beat to try and figure it out…

    * And yes, it’s the same song. Let’s face it, it’s the same story line…and besides, I’m not feeling all that great, and I’m tired…Trust me…doing all this research is no JOKE…📝🙋🏻‍♀️

  3. 🔠 The Vocabulary words for the quiz would be: FLINT, ICONIC, MAIZE, and SHROUD…alphabetically…and the child wrote them down in that order, making it easier to look up each DEFINITION…🔠

🧑🏻‍🌾 The farm was deemed ICONIC, generations tilled its soil…
The MAIZE produced over the years well worth the strenuous toil…
The farmer’s face covered in sweat…SHROUD-like is how it lay,
As in the Bible…set like FLINT, as he went through his day
But worth it all… the bottom line…there was great recognition…
‘Twas truly acres fruitful…would best be its DEFINITION…🧑🏻‍🌾

  4. Wow ! Very clever jumble , but hard to figure out ! Suzie and I both were thinking hard to find a DEFUNITION ! Actually , she said , I see definition , but the letters weren’t there , so we had FUN finding it ! Whew ! That one was tricky , but we got it ! The anagrams were all there except MAIZE ! I thought it was a word IMAZE , but said that’s not a word , then I looked and I rolled my eyes in a MAIZE ! Oh well , it was challenging and fun today on fun Friday ! Everyone have a good day !!!! And when I read your song Angela I thought I was doing yesterday’s jumble , so I looked and it came with both ! So everyone don’t pick on me ! I loved it !

  5. 🤷🏻‍♂️So Alfred did cause quite the scene,
In the Library where he did preen…
And it got him put out,
But did it bring a pout?
Not to this boy with comedy’s gene! 🤷🏻‍♂️

🫵🏻 He’s been told if he wants to show clout,
He needs put his money to his mouth…
    Write a paper ‘bout jokes,
    Meant to entertain Folks…
    And we’ll see just what Alfred’s about…🫵🏻

👏🏻👏🏻 So he sets out to write up a piece,
And he’s thinking wonders never cease..
To him it’s a real blast,
    He’s happy he was asked…
He’s not bothered by it in the least…👏🏻👏🏻

👨‍👦And today we meet Rocky, his Dad,
Who’s quite proud of his mischievous lad…
    Saying he’d definitely bite,
At the chance jokes to write…
Comes to joking?…These two def comrades! 👨‍👦

❓So here’s hoping Al passes the test,
    And fulfills the Library’s request…
But can he hold his tongue?
    Will his jokes stay unsung?
Knowing joking’s Alfred at his best?❓

  6. It’s finally Friday…time to WINE down…And today just happens to be PINOT NOIR DAY! https://tinyurl.com/ycxhp22v So if you feel like you’re hanging by a RED…pour yourself a glass of wine…and CHILL…We all know it’s not healthy to keep things bottled up! Salute! Cin Cin! 🍷🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. A sense of humour is great
To that we can all relate
    But it’s hard to define
And to draw a fine line
In the joke and humour debate.

A joke often involves making fun
And its impact can frequently stun
    An innocent soul
    Who, on the whole
Wonders what on earth it is they have done…

…to be the butt of such a joke
What have they done to provoke
To be picked on like this
    Is it something they’ve missed
What is simply the way that they spoke?

    Humour is somewhat more pretty
Subtle and a lot less gritty
Depends on place and on time
    And is a definite sign
    Of someone who’s generally witty!

And thus ends this ridiculous ditty!!

  8. A cryptic morning for sure….I just wasn’t sure which way that puzzle cartoon was going. Therefore, unscrambled the anagrams as a first step. Knew the first part of the word had to begin with a consonant, which helped. Next, pulled out FUN…and that about summed up my finding the correct solution on this TGIF. Had the same feelings as others with your same chosen song…but it looks like there was a two day theme going on, so it fit really well again.

Please don’t knock yourself out (too much) with this very fine blog…and get that needed rest…PLEASE !!! Your readers want a healthy Angela. See you tomorrow.

  9. Good morning. Today was the reverse. I was able to get all the words but failed on the cartoon answer. Wow what luck, two days in a row with the Coasters. Can’t ask for anything better than that. Get some rest Angela, you’re the glue that keeps this all together. Without you, it’s a bust. Until tomorrow take care.

  10. My husband and I …answer was… for Aug. 18th
    “NO FUN EDITI”
(which I thought was interesting) until we saw yours….!!! (liked yours more!!)

  11. So when we have truncated words in quotes each individual section need not be a real word? I’m new to Jumble in the last few years. I thought that we were to form ordinary words? Not just sounds?
Or does ordinary word only apply to the first one word Jumbles?

    • Hi Dawn…Quotation marks are used when there’s a play on words/word. When there’s hyphens in play it usually means it’s one word made into the pun. And they are “ordinary”words, just turned into a witticism. Like today…Definition became deFUNition because the puzzles question used words that described FUN. And idioms are frequently used…I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it in no time…You just have to think puns…and wit! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  12. Stumped on the cartoon answer this morning, even though I figured out all the anagrams. I knew fun had to be in the final answer but just couldn’t come up with the rest. Kind of fun that today’s Jumble was a carry over from yesterday’s. Happy Friday all!
