  1. Good Morning, Everyone! 🌁 IT’LL LOOK SPAN NEW! 🌁

🎶I left my heart in SAN FRANCISCO…🎶 “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” – Mr Tony Bennett 1962 https://tinyurl.com/2e7ttk75

🌁 Over the years it’s oft been asked why the Bridge isn’t gold,
Some people thought it LUNACY, but the truth to be told…
It’s not an ODDITY because think of Golden Gate Strait,
That is the entrance to the Bay…so yes, it does relate…
The Bridge’s constantly painted, and this crew they’re a good team,
Like batting in an INNING, they step up to make it gleam…
From both its GRASSY endings the Bridge stands looking bold,
And its International Orange color…defies the name of gold…
So much paint’s always needed, that fact one can’t OPPOSE,
It protects the bridge from salty air…so no corrosion grows…
    And TATTLE’s giving me some grief, I thought…”For sure I can…”
But I give up…Can’t bridge the gap…No LONG ATTENTION SPAN! 🌁

Ok, here’s the deal. I found this article from last year https://tinyurl.com/ahz3rsxz that says completely painting the bridge will take four years and 10,000 gallons of paint, so I’m figuring it’s the same source of information that David and Jeff went with. But I found some other info too, so if you know any differently, don’t shoot the messenger. Just like I threw the towel in on TATTLE, I’m taking a pass here. Anyway, you’re free to read the article if you’d like, unless you have a Short ATTENTION SPAN, and you’re just here to check your puzzle answers…Either way, I’m good….As always, I’m just here to BRIDGE the gap…

So…We’ve four new anagrams this morning, with SYRAGS and IGNNNI having both been seen last year. And I DROVE through them easily. The solve? TBT, solving by the cartoon and dialogue alone, as I always do, my first thought was Long SUSPENSION Span, since the Golden Gate’s https://tinyurl.com/3pb7nxn5 a suspension bridge…and I thought what a clever pun. But then I took a quick glance up at the words, saw only three S’s amongst the letters, instead of four…and realized I’d be coming up SHORT…and went with ATTENTION…Four years, LONG time, 1.7 miles…LONG bridge. Breaking down the work and getting it done? Paying ATTENTION. SPAN? It’s a Bridge…Speaks for itself. The crew has a LONG ATTENTION SPAN…But bottom line? Sorry, I have to say that personally, I LEFT MY HEART set on the answer to this puzzle about being IN SAN FRANCISCO with the word Suspension…

Jeff’s Gems? There’s three shirts showing a logo picture of the Bridge, and the mustachioed guy is sporting two hoop earrings…

So, There you have it Folks, Done. Have a good one. Be well, stay safe…and I’m going to KARL it a day…(And a GOLD medal goes to whoever gets this pun)! 🌁🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🧍🏻‍♀️🧍🏻With the group of pre-schoolers not having a LONG ATTENTION SPAN to begin with, the teacher didn’t OPPOSE the principal’s suggestion to take them outside onto the GRASSY area…and in light of all the LUNACY over last minute rule changes, and the ODDITY of some of the school board’s mandates, she decided to go off curriculum further by letting them watch an INNING or two of the baseball game…and jokingly told them not to TATTLE…🧍🏻🧍🏻‍♀️

⚾️ The Coach thought it an ODDITY to wear masks as they played,
Some parents called it LUNACY, but mandates had been made…
No way could they OPPOSE what rulings now were put in place,
Someone said, “Who’s to TATTLE if they don’t cover their face?
They’re out here on the GRASSY field, so where would be the harm,
If every other INNING it came off…especially since it’s warm”?
The Coach though nixed the idea, saying…”Best we stick to plan…
The League is not forgiving…with their LONG ATTENTION SPAN”! ⚾️

  3. Twas not to be this morning for me, though Marsha had a blind solve. I guessed SPAN but could go no further. Went down the ING rabbit hole which threw me off the correct track, too. Anagrams were easy this morning, as they seem to be on Sunday. Good job to those who think outside the box and came up with correct answer. See you Monday morning.

    • Good Morning, Terry. With “short attention span” being the common idiom, going with LONG does sort of throw a wrench into the mix. It’s definitely clever, and I like it…But I’m still thinking SUSPENSION would have been GOLDEN! 😂 Have a good one, Terry…and hats off to Marsha! 🌁🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. 👷🏻‍♂️ With a Bridge that’s subject to such salt,
And that can’t just be brought to a halt…
    This endeavor is tough,
    But the crew…well they’re tough..
    And the job’s definitely a gestalt! 👷🏻‍♂️

🌫 With a plan to be done in four years,
And the blueprints all done…it appears…
That this crew looks to be,
    One and all quite ready…
Here’s to hoping though that the fog clears! 🌫

🌁 Golden Gate Bridge, iconic for sure,
And to tourists it has its allure…
But it takes lots of paint,
    To prevent looking faint…
And it made a great puzzle du jour! 🌁

  5. 👮🏻‍♂️ Today is NATIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT APPRECIATION DAY https://tinyurl.com/5n8p8s2y. Thanks to all those who dedicate themselves to keeping our communities safe. Wear blue, tie a blue ribbon on your car antenna…and thank a police officer if you can…👮🏻‍♂️

  6. Lunacy gave me reason to pause, but then having all the letters,I was stumped by the cartoon solution. My newspaper only showing 3 squares for the third word instead of 4 didn’t help.I also was thinking the middle word had an ing ending.

  7. As this tale begins to unfold
There’s a plan that’s as solid as gold
    Paint span after span
Of the bridge of San Fran
What a dazzling site to behold!

  8. Good morning. Took a little time to get the words but was successful with them all. Had long for part of the cartoon answer but gave up on the rest. Loved your puns and song choice Angela. You gave me a smile. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Good Afternoon, Paul. Thank you…And you know I’m always happy to bring you a smile. Have a good one..and hoping you’re staying well and safe too…🌁🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Though I live within walking distance, had to resort to pen and paper to solve the cartoon answer today but got it! At the time of her construction, she was the longest single span suspension bridge in the world. My mother and her family walked across her in 1937 on opening day, my children did the trek 50 years later, when so many people arrived that they had to close off access. For the 75th anniversary they had the most magnificent fireworks I’ve ever seen, cascading over her railings. And, yes, there are always workers on the bridge. My favorite song for the city is “San Francisco” sung by Jeannette MacDonald in a 1936 film starring Clark Gable and Spencer Tracy. Do come for a visit!

    • Hello Betty. My most recent trip to SF was a few years ago on a layover from a flight from China. An early morning arrival and the fog was thick unfortunately. We waited patiently for it to lift before the next leg of our flight to Toronto. Just made it!
I’m used to morning mist though as I spend (or used to, before covid spoiled everything!!) part of the year in my native Edinburgh, where early morning mist, called haar in Scotland, is common.

      • Yes, indeed our airport is notorious for flight delays due to fog. Many folks choose to fly into either Oakland or San Jose as they seem to have less difficulty.

    • And if I’m not mistaken, it’s the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge that “inched it out”…Talk about a bridge in need of care! And now there’s talk of putting in a bike lane..Bike lane? The cars can”t even get across without a wing and a prayer…God help us! Thanks for sharing, Betty…This one’s for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QvK_gD3ulaw Watch til the end…it’s a roaring finish…And just a side note. Clark Gable? That face? Be still my heart! Have a good one, Betty…Be well…and stay safe out there…🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Yes, Angela, you are correct. Verrazano-Narrows did surpass us. We do have a bike land on one side of the bridge and a walking lane on the other side. One of our biggest problems was terrible car accidents as the bridge of 1937 wasn’t constructed with the size of the modern automobiles. We now have a movable barrier sort of like a zipper that reconfigures the lanes during rush hour to accommodate the changing traffic needs. That movie with Clark Gable ends at the 1906 earthquake when everyone is singing “San Francisco” in the ruins of the city. My grandmother assured me that they were running for their lives not singing. Stay safe.

        • I can imagine…kind of like fiddling while Rome burned..it’s a great movie though. It was one of my Father’s favorites. As for the VN Bridge? It seems to have gone the way of everything else here in NY lately…not exactly in the right direction..no pun intended. I personally don’t think a bike lane is such a good idea…the congestion on the bridge on a daily basis, plus the rather questionable driving skills of most people out here are a joke…God knows what having bicyclists will add…But…we’ll see. A final note…Did you notice the little pun at the closing of my post today? KARL?…I was hoping someone caught it. We here in NY know of/and joke about it..Is it not that well known in San Francisco? The humanity!!! 😉🙋🏻‍♀️

          • I did see KARL. I’m not sure what it means in New York. Here in S.F. Our fog is called Karl although that’s something relatively new.

            • Yes, that’s it, the fog! 👏🏻👏🏻! It’s come up in a few of the trivia games I’ve been in. And we joke around with it when someone’s acting “stunad”…”What’re you in a KARL today”? 😂🙋🏻‍♀️

  10. My brain was in the fog this morning! I guessed that two of the words might be LONG and SPAN, but I spent the next hour without making any progress. Then my 12-year comes down, takes one look at the letters for the cartoon…and without seeing those possible words….says it must be LONG ATTENTION SPAN. I couldn’t believe he got it so quickly. 🙂 Today broke my easy streak for the new year! But I DID do a bunch of research on the Golden Gate bridge in the process…learned about the INTERNATIONAL ORANGE color…and discovered they are ALWAYS painting the bridge, so I’m not sure today’s Jumble is accurate! And unfortunately, it sounds like they are still trying to prevent folks from jumping off the bridge…and are working on installing a net beneath it. Have a great week coming up!

    • Hi Brad. Maybe I’m not following you correctly, but the two facts you’re speaking of are right there in my opening rhyme. And as far as the puzzle goes, there’s no inaccuracy mentioned. Did you see the link I included in my post? It’s right on target with what David’s saying. Trust me, I know for a fact that he does his research! He’d never steer you wrong! 😉 As for the jumping? Sadly, it goes on all over. Here on S I, our bridge is always the scene of the same. It’s very troubling..That’s why I mentioned that a bike lane here shouldn’t be a priority…Working on making it difficult for a tortured soul to jump should be what taxpayer money’s spent on…🤷🏻‍♀️
