🎶 I’d be DOGGONE if love ain’t a man’s best friend…Oh, Baby…and I’ll be DOGGONE if you ain’t the loving end, Baby…Though I know you make me feel like no Baby could, if I ever found out that you’re no good…Then I wouldn’t be DOGGONE…I’d be long gone (I’d be long gone)…🎶 “I’ll Be Doggone” – Marvin Gaye 1966 https://tinyurl.com/2srprd38
🚲 Almira Gulch from Kansas, definitely scared this kid,
And when she “turned” into the Witch, she couldn’t be OUTBID
Her face looked like a GECKO, and time and time AGAIN,
She gave me heebie-jeebies when I saw her way back when…
Her THORAX covered up in cloth, a bike (and broom) she rode,
The old and stuffy socialite brought up the word forbade
And I remember cheering when Toto managed to split…
So glad to hear that old Ms Gulch, forced to say…“DOG-GONE-IT”! 🚲
“The Wizard of Oz”…I’ve often wondered how a song as beautiful as “Over the Rainbow” came out of a movie as oddly traumatic as L. Frank Baum’s “The Wizard of Oz”. https://tinyurl.com/y4wd3yvu Miss Gulch, *tornadoes, flying monkeys, spinning houses, wicked witches…and blows to the head of a child…And yet this sweet gentle piece of music…And while I’m not including “Dorothy’s” classic version here today, (which I’m sure you’ve all heard a million times over), I’m giving you instead one that I find achingly beautiful… https://tinyurl.com/7b6bm2kp I hope you enjoy it…
Ok. Today’s words…Once AGAIN, we’ve nothing new to contend with, and we do have a repeat performance in CGOEK. And while there was an ever so slight bump in the road with Again, the Early Birds doggedly pursued our puzzle…and managed to run away with it this morning…It was a TOTO win…
So, our cartoon. Out on a barren, gravelly dirt road in 1939 Kansas, we find ourselves in the presence of Miss Almira Gulch.. https://tinyurl.com/yyd4ds43 the character from the “Wizard of Oz” single-handedly responsible for many a childhood nightmare. Having just taken Dorothy’s beloved little Toto, https://tinyurl.com/ycf229j6 she’s miffed to find that he’s escaped, and she’s left holding the bag…or shall we say the basket. And as she maliciously calls Toto a mutt, and feels the burn over the little lost Cairn, she’s thinking…DOGGONE IT!… https://tinyurl.com/mrn3dknc Aha! She thought she’d mooch…but she lost the pooch! And a greater escape there never OZ!
…Jeff’s Gems? We see Toto running back towards the farm, and the funnel cloud of the tornado way off in the distance. But I’m drawn to the tiny bell resting on the left hand grip of Miss Gulch’s handlebar. It just rings true…
So, There you have it Folks, Done. Have a good one. Be well, stay safe…and always remember…be it ever so humble…”There’s no place like home…” 🚲🙋🏻♀️
* Baum used the term ‘cyclone’ in the story, and it may have been the common word back then, but today we know it was wrong. It was a tornado that swept through in the “Wizard of Oz”
OUT OF THE ARCHIVES…The puzzle of June 13th, 2014…The question: “When he realized that their golden retriever wasn’t in the backyard, he said… And the solve: “DOG-GONE-IT” 🐕🙋🏻♀️
🦎 Failing once AGAIN to OUTBID the others for the caricature of the GECKO with the comical-looking THORAX, he was heard to exclaim, “DOGGONE IT…”🦎
🦎 She saw a GECKO crawl by…in her THORAX she caught air,
She worried that with all these trees, could they get in her hair?
Her friends were laughing at her, as they each tried to OUTBID,
Each other over wagering…if from the trees they’d skid
But once AGAIN she looked around, while hating to forfeit…
Hanging out there…but still she left…as she said…”DOGGONE IT”! 🦎
It was a Friday stumper in this neck of the woods !! Words were tricky but solved successfully….then a blank veil fell upon by early morning brain. Hoping for a better brain on Saturday. Maybe I should talk to the scarecrow !!!t
…But we still have Friday to get through! 😉🤷🏻♀️
Guessed the puzzle first but then Again even a Gecko with a sore Thorax wouldn’t be Outbid on making that solve. Unsually warm weather on the Great Plains today, Doggone It. Don’t like jumping right into summer but it beats the snow. Golfing tomorrow and wishing everyone a lovely weekend.
And wishing you a great day, OO…🚲🙋🏻♀️
Good morning. Tricky one today but I must admit I peaked last night and I guess even though I had my problems I retained what I saw. You gave me a good laugh Angela on your Fruit of the Doom remark on yesterday’s comment. I loved all your extras on today’s post. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.
Good Morning, Brooklyn. Thank you…And peeking’s ok…I’ll never tell! 😉 And I’m always happy to know I can give you a laugh. Enjoy your apples and lemons, Paul…and hoping you stay well and safe too. 🚲🙋🏻♀️
The answer came to me, but I had to back into Outbid. Loved the link to the rainbow song.
There’s an interesting youtube video about the life of Toto (born Terry), which is based on the autobiography, “I, Toto.” https://tinyurl.com/4e38a3pa
Best wishes to all.
I love that rendition too, Caroline. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for the link. I read last night that Terry made more money on the film than any of the actors. Not a dogs life for him! And best wishes to you too, Caroline. 🚲🙋🏻♀️
Gecko popped into mind from the insurance commercial quickly followed by the outbid solve, not so lucky w the cartoon solution,as doggone got me.
Those Geico commercials definitely put geckos on the map…no pun intended. Here’s to tomorrow, Prof. 🦎🙋🏻♀️
My favorite version of Over the Rainbow is by IZ! Became familiar with it from the movie, 50 First Dates. Was sad to find out he had passed away. Liked the video of Toto, Too! 😉 So thanks to both gals, for sharing! No problem with the puzzle! Backed into OUTBID, as well. Have a lovely weekend!
Kudos on the solve, Kimberly. And wishing you a lovely day! 🚲🙋🏻♀️
Successful morning Jumble Wise. Recently watched a very interesting documentary (American Experience I think) about L.Frank Baum. I didn’t realize that there were a whole series of Oz books. He did not live to see the movie though his wife was at the premiere. I remember being terrified to the Wicked Witch. She still gives me the creeps. Wishing all of you a good day.
Likewise, Betty. She still does the same to me. Wishing you good day, too. 🚲🙋🏻♀️
Hi all – I happened to recognize GECKO from previous puzzles, and saw the two parts of OUTBID. Likewise, “Dog gone” came to me from the cartoon.
Great Marvin Gaye song choice Angela! I’d completely forgotten about that one.
Good wishes to everyone.
Tks, Steve. Always a favorite. Wishing you a good one too…🚲🙋🏻♀️
Easy as Thursday morning… A little hesitation on the J solution.
Sunny and warm in LaLaLand. Gonna be in the 90s today and wildfires have started.
Yep…Definitely an easy one. 🚲🙋🏻♀️
Here in LA, we’re again wondering who will outbid Farmer John as Dodger Dogs are now DOGGONE. Yesterday, AJ Pollock puffed out his thorax like a proud gecko as Dodgers routed the Reds 8-0.
The contract for dogs was awarded to Papa Cantella, a family owned operation. Apparently they taste similar to the Farmer John’s hot dogs but with less ‘snap’.
AGAIN the little GECKO from Geico insurance said you could save money in 5 minutes just by calling.I got a lump in my THORAX when I called, because they OUTBID my own insurance Co. Doggone it !
Good Morning, Everyone… 🚲 IT’S A DOG’S STRIFE 🚲
