  1. Good Morning, Everyone. 🦣 SPEAR THE ROD…. 🦣

🎶 There’s a man in the funny papers we all know…Alley-Oop, oop, oop, oop-oop…He lives ‘way back a long time ago…Alley-Oop, oop…🎶 “Alley Oop” – The Hollywood Argyles 1960
    https://tinyurl.com/ooz2ynbk

🦣 We see a man who looks so thin, with arms spaghetti-like,
Making the other look OBESE…the one who carved the spike…
This THIRD line not POETIC…I’ll look to take a pass…
But is that LICHEN that I see, beyond a grounds morass?
    A spear is made, it’s crude perhaps…branch and rock made a joint…
And yes, it may be primitive…but that’s BESIDE THE POINT…🦣

The rock and the hard place, the devil and the deep blue sea…the branch and the rock? Two dilemmas…but that last one? A breakthrough! Pun intended! Primitive man invents the Spear!

Words today? A split decision. All four of them seen more than once in Jumble’s time-line, but we have two new anagrams along with two repeats…EEOSB from 12/21/19, https://tinyurl.com/2xhhesm2 and RITDH from 10/17/19. https://tinyurl.com/1m9o8fpe And it looks like LICHEN was the word the Early Birds were less likin’ this morning. Clinch and clench were “seen”…but not word…

So…Two cavemen. One looking emaciated, with arms and legs thinner than that branch that’s making news. The man-of-the-power? Much more robust…I think he’s already tried out that new-fangled weapon of his. And as our question tells us, it’s a hunting aid made from a branch and a rock…put together…one BESIDE the other…Was it crude? Perhaps…But did it get the job done? Definitely…So the looks of it? Didn’t matter…It was simply…BESIDE THE POINT… https://tinyurl.com/2ufp7jz9

Jeff’s Gems? I’m lichen how the skinny guy gets the whole idea of the new invention…there’s fine lines drawn depicting that he gets the POINT. And the very noticeable difference in testosterone levels between our two guys may or may not be hair nor there…And of course there in the background is our wooly mammoth…or is it a mastodon? I don’t really know… but you get my point…

So, There you have it Folks…Done. Be well, stay safe and thoughts and prayers to all our readers in the path of these winter storms…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 🤷🏻‍♂️ BESIDE THE POINT that they seemed to be studying a hodgepodge of subjects, starting with the dangers of being OBESE, by the time they got to the THIRD chapter, involving the skin ailment of LICHEN, he questioned the Professor taking such POETIC license…🤷🏻‍♂️

🦏 They watched the animals, OBESE, walk through the jungle deep
This THIRD guide that they hired spoke POETIC from their Jeep…
They saw the moss and LICHEN as it all dripped in conjoint
And humid though it was, it all remained BESIDE THE POINT 🦏

  3. Good morning. Probably like many I failed on the word Lichen. Unable to solve it I got the answer and then went to the Dictionary for its meaning. I was totally ignorant of that word. As for the cartoon answer that was a breeze. At least it wasn’t a total failure. Thanks Angela for the blast from the past. Really enjoyed it. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Good Morning, Paul. Tk you..I’m glad you enjoyed the music. As for Lichen, it’s a bit of a tough one…recognizing it and pronouncing it as well…I’m sure you won’t be alone with the challenge of it. The solve? Yes, easy, cute and clever…as always! Have a good one, Paul. Be well, and stay safe and warm…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

        • Good Morning, Professor. Lichen ran away with the numbers and left the other words in the dust last time too. It’s definitely not a word we come across that often…Have a good one, Prof. Be well and stay safe. 🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Hi Everyone – I agree with Paul on the song, which I haven’t heard for many years, and Lichen. Fortunately, the answer came quickly so that I could back into that word as well as Obese and Poetic (again).

    • Hi Caroline. Good Morning. Another not likin’ Lichen? It may just be a landslide today! And I’m glad you enjoyed my song choice too…And yes, a quick solve…Hope your day’s going well, Caroline. Stay safe and warm…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Good Morning, David and Miss Daisy Dog. As always, it’s such a pleasure to see you. And thank you, David…Rest assured we share the joy too…what you and Jeff bring to the table each day has us all LICHEN our mornings! Be well, and stay safe out there! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. Third looked like dirth to me at first, but after getting the other anagrams I needed the “T” from third for the second word point in the solution.I mentioned my granddaughter,Emily, the other day as being in the midst of the Texas crisis, but is still doing ok.She was on a prerecorded version of the TV show : 25 words or less yesterday,as a partner to a contestant, and mentioned her “Grandfather Charles” as she was introduced ,since she had learned about the show when she watched with me when she visited us.

    • I’m glad to hear that she’s doing well, Chuck. Be sure to let us know when the episode airs so we can all tune in. You must be one proud Grandpa!

  6. Like others I paused at lichen. Kept thinking the word would either start or end with “ch” – but alas it was in the middle. Had to back into it after solving the cartoon answer. Figured out “poetic” though that one has stumped me in the past. Good workout this morning. Wishing all of you a Good Friday though I know more snow is headed your way. Stay safe folks.

    • Tks Betty. It’s STILL snowing! 🤦🏻‍♀️ And I know you always enjoy a bit of a challenge…Wishing you a good day, too, Betty. Be well and stay safe out there…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

  7. Just yesterday I was reading about lichens. They can survive very high temperatures, being frozen for long periods, and have survived in space (no atmosphere) for weeks.

    • Weird when things like this happen, right? Sometimes it really unnerves me! 😱 But yes, Dennis, Lichens are definitely a rugged lot! 🎋🙋🏻‍♀️

    • That’s very interesting, Dennis. Google says that Lichen first appeared on earth over 550 million years ago. That means they roughly have a 547 million year jump on humans!

Have you heard of a gentleman by the name of Paul Stamets? He’s a mycologist who has a unique theory on the relationship between fungi and all other living species on earth. His TED Talk was absolutely brilliant — if you listen to it with an open mind and are into that sort of thing. If you do watch, please keep in mind that he’s a recovering stutter so he pauses quite a bit.

Have a great weekend, and thanks for sharing those facts!

  8. At first I thought it was DIRTH but then I saw the more likely THIRD…. In a prior life I knew about lichen planus but that didn’t help today! Overall a fun puzzle with a cute cartoon. Angela’s song choice was strong, many moons since I thought of old Alley Oop. Nice seeing David drop in. Until the morrow….

    • Dearth seems to be on a lot of minds today…In case David’s still looking in, I think he should consider the word for a future puzzle, right? 😉 And Alley Oop? I had to go dig it out of the vault about an hour ago…I just couldn’t get it off my mind…and there’s nothing like listening to old vinyl. I’m glad you enjoyed it, Mig. Have a good one…Be well and stay safe…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

    • Off POINT, indeed! 😉Not to worry, Agnes. There’s always tomorrow! Have a good one…and stay safe out there…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Hi all – I saw POINT and guessed BESIDE, so I didn’t need the letters to get the answer, but I did have to write then down to get the last clue word. It was all Greek to me when I first saw HELLENIC, then INCLINE and CLINCH. It even took a few tries after seeing what letters I needed, so I obviously wasn’t LICHEN the word much at all.

    Good wishes to everyone.

Angela, the detail that made me laugh today was also the overly detailed leg hair on the one caveman.

“He had body-shamed people in his youth, so it was POETIC justice when middle-age spread hit, and after his THIRD failed diet, the now-OBESE patient was prescribed a diet of LICHEN and water.”

    • HAIR, there and everywhere! Dd you get a good look at those arms? 😉But Lichen and water? Doesn’t that sound like a recipe for disaster? 😉 Wishing you a good one, Steve…Be well and stay safe…🦣🙋🏻‍♀️
