  1. Happy Monday everyone! All of today’s clue words were recycled repeats from the past few years. They all solved without any hiccups or delays so I’d say they were a perfect fit to start off the week. The anagrams themselves did return as being new though. While researching the words I noticed that David tends to use DRESSY more often than DRESS. It popped up 3 times before I could find DRESS and an additional 5 times after that! And for those of you keeping track at home, the final answer of GRAND TIME has been used before too. I found it as the answer to a holiday themed puzzle back on 12/11/17.

Today’s cartoon was absolutely breathtaking! If you only used it as a tool to solve the final answer then you did yourself a huge injustice. My favorite detail had to be the over abundance of shading on the peaks. It really gave the entire cartoon an early morning type of feel. And the fun didn’t stop there because Jeff placed this family right on the edge of the canyon. This not only gave the piece some added dimension, but it also added an element of thrill and danger too.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 9 letters. 6 of them were consonants and 3 were vowels. The layout did a great job of disguising the surprise answer but the clue of “…Arizona’s famous canyon” practically gave the entire thing away. With GRAND plucked out of the letters, MIET was all that was left to finish this one off. Have a great start to your week and keep Jumbling!

  3. Good Morning, Everyone. I hope this finds you well…

🧗🏻 While visiting Grand Canyon, we see this family four,
They’re speaking of what else they’ll do while on their vaca tour
All wearing DRESS appropriate for hiking and the such,
They’ve SWUNG by one stop, others wait…they’re cramming in so much
While MILDEW’s not a problem, pollen count can surely be,
But these four seem quite unperturbed…their joy is def CATCHY…
They’ll spend this day together, and enjoy the famous climb,
This day in Arizona’s proving to be one GRAND TIME! 🧗🏻

Jumble Trivia: Back on December 11th, 2017, an early Holiday🎄 puzzle featured Grandparents Poppy and Lee Lee traditionally decorating a Christmas Tree with their four grandchildren, two boys and two girls. The question stated: “They spent the day with their daughters children, and had a”….And the solve was: GRAND TIME. Totally different premise, but both endearing family puzzles just the same. I love the Jumble Trivia!

Wishing you all a good day. Be well, and stay safe out there…🧗🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. 💃🏻 Hoping to have a GRAND TIME at the retro Disco party, she was happy with the way the old DRESS SWUNG on her hips, but the faint odor of MILDEW from being in the attic so long, wasn’t quite CATCHY…💃🏻

🎶 The tune he wrote was CATCHY, he’d SWUNG another hit,
He’ll DRESS it up a little…making small tweaks bit by bit
A jingle about MILDEW…not easy to make rhymes…
He took a shot, and did it though…and he’d had a GRAND TIME! 🎶

  5. Good morning. Back on track. No problem with the words or cartoon answer. Until tomorrow stay well and stay safe.

    • Great mind think alike! I couldn’t see the relationship but I gave up and looked at the answer. Grand time made more sense. My bad!!!

  6. After my usual trouble w the Sunday puzzle,it was good to see an easy Monday Jumble,w a blind solve of the cartoon. On a related Gr Canyon note, when I was a college Junior,a friend of mine and I drove from Ohio to Las Vegas and then stopped at the Canyon on the way back.We decided to hike the Bright Angel Trail down into the Canyon starting out late in the afternoon. We were totally unprepared for the hike ,and found a cowboy type canteen on the way down, which was a God send.We then, after 1 1/2 to 2 miles down, turned around and literally crawled out at the top of the canyon, about 2 AM,exhausted and starving.

    • I hiked to the bottom of the canyon from the north side about 40 years ago. A long hike, with the hard part going back up.

I had an experience similar to yours when hiking to Half dome in Yosemite around 35 years ago. We left in the early afternoon, reached the top an hour or so before dark, and hiked back several miles in the dark with one flashlight for 8 of us. Not too bright.

  7. Easy one this morning, so starting off the week on a good note. We took a trip to the Grand Canyon many years ago and were just stunned by its beauty. It truly is one of the most magnificent landmarks in our country. Here’s hoping you all have a grand day!

  8. Chuck, you know how to have fun! And you have a great mind…. I was pleased also with today’s J as Sunday had thrown me for an uncharacteristic loop. I attempted Angela’s approach by trying to solve the puzzle first, and it worked today……….. It was a GRAND TIME for me and I am sure for a number of others.
Saw a touching TV show about Alex Trebec. Great guy with a great wife!
    On to the week.

    • Hey Mig…I told you you’d enjoy the puzzle today! 😉 And it’ll work any day…if you just concentrate on the dialogue and how the question leans. Both David and Jeff leave a trail of clues…I probably saw the same show you did last night…and I cried all the way through it. I’m so rattled since the news broke yesterday. Truly a great loss. 😢🙋🏻‍♀️

  9. Hi all – No problem today – a real Monday puzzle.

    Good wishes to everyone.

C’mon Mike, you know that being “bigger than the state of Rhode Island” isn’t really all that notable! 😂 But I did check, and the canyon is smaller than Delaware, so I can’t complain that you included the reference.

I second the motion of loving the Jumble Trivia, Angela and it always adds to the enjoyment here.
Same idea as you about the dance, but the words kind of limited the possible subjects:
“She expected a GRAND TIME at the jitterbug hop, but realized she should have inspected her DRESS more closely, because when she SWUNG around to the CATCHY tune, it revealed MILDEW in the pleats.”

    • Limited the subjects? Try working them into a rhyme about the Grand Canyon! 😉🤦🏻‍♀️ I think I pulled a muscle! 😂 You know what’s funny though? For some reason I didn’t “like” the words…as a group I mean. There seemed to be no flow with them. IDK. I can’t really explain it, but it just wasn’t “fun” putting them together. But we both gave it a good shot! 😉👏🏻. And yes, thanks… I’m all for Jumble Trivia…🧗🏻🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Not at all, since I’m pretty sure you knew it would also get a laugh out of me. 😂 You know we were all just envious of those growing up in huge states like New Hampshire.

  10. I found the four words to be fairly easy, but the cartoon clue took some work. I first came up with MATED RING, but that one didn’t have a CATCHY ring to it. So I looked further and found GREAT MIND. Maybe one of the children is a genius, an Einstein, but that didn’t concern the canyon. So I tried another synonym and came up with GRAND TIME, which fit the cartoon clue. I call this an abundant anagram, since there are many, many anagrams for DRNGMEIAT. Maybe the man in the cartoon yaks so much that he grates on the others; i.e., GRATE MIND. They will eventually grind their way down the canyon; they are a GRIND TEAM. Such places as the Grand Canyon Make America Great, Indeed (MAGI). That’s a good trend; in fact, a MAGI TREND. Maybe they got financed for this trip; someone GRANT DIME to them. But when they hike, they need to beware of animals, especially the TIGER DAMN; actually I mean the damn tiger. Lots and lots of shadow answers to this one, none fitting as well as GRAND TIME.

    • Hi Jim,
Are you part of the “early bird ” group? I would like to join it but don’t know how to get the Jumble early (I heard midnight Chicago time). Can you help me please?
      Mig

      • I don’t know of any early bird group. I simply get it in my morning paper, the Richmond Times-Dispatch. I don’t know how to get the Jumble any earlier than about 7:15 am when I get the newspaper.
