  1. Good Morning, Everyone… 🌲 TO PINE OWN SELF BE TRUE….🌲

🎶 Went to a garden PARTY, to reminisce with my old friends…A chance to share old memories and play our songs again…🎶 “Garden Party” – Rick Nelson 1972 https://tinyurl.com/m36a6ba

🌲You hear the birds up in the trees, as happily they CHEEP,
    We’re in the forest…rich and lush…amongst the foliage deep…
    We’re looking at a party…rather formal I might say…
But there’s not one SCARF to be seen…perhaps the month is May
We see a lot of conifers…that’s PLURAL not just one,
And from the looks of things so far…we see they’re having fun
The clue to solving this today is what is left UNTOLD
    A conifer’s an evergreen…with needles very bold…
There’s fir and pine and cedar…but you want to know wassup?
Look closely at our partiers…you’ll see they’re ALL SPRUCED UP! 🌲

Ok, so SPRUCE: Definition: Any evergreen, coniferous tree of the genus Picea, of the pine family, having short, angular, needle-shaped leaves attached singly around twigs and bearing hanging cones. And then, there’s SPRUCE UP: Definition: To make someone or something look cleaner, neater, or more attractive “We spruced up the room with a fresh coat of paint”. “I need to spruce myself up a bit before we go out to dinner”. So our solution today, ALL SPRUCED UP made perfect sense. It’s a brilliant pun…And you all know how I‘m such a sap for these old-time idioms…But what surprised me was that way back on December 15th, 2008, we had a puzzle whose answer went like this…”When the Christmas tree grower went to market, he…”SPRUCED UP”. And then, on Christmas Eve, 2014, we had this…“When they added ornaments to the Christmas tree, they…”SPRUCED IT UP”…So…Do you see where I’m going with this? Previously, whene..FIR David was thinking along these lines, it fit so well, FOR EST was Christmas Time. And yet, here today, when we’re this 🤏🏻close to Summer, he’s bringing it up now… Hmm. Is he needling us? Is he pining for the Holidays a little early? Is he just playing an oak on us? We may never know…But for whate..FIR reason he’s decided to branch out, and go with it today,…I say why knot? ‘Cause CONIFER puzzle themes transcend the Seasons? Yew bet they can!

Cheep. I definitely think it’s making its debut this morning. I searched and searched and covered a lot of ground, but I still came up empty. And after listening to the Early Birds do a riff on La Peche Mode Beer, and Depeche Mode, the rock group from the 80’s, I was just about ready to say Peace Out, and call it the STUMPer…until we got to UNTOLD…Don’t ask. I think it’s just going to be one of those days…Oh, and by the way, LUTDON appeared as in back on August 15th, 2014.

So, the party. Remember the old joke.. “Why do you never want to invite a tree to your party? Because they never leaf when you want them to”…Hmm…Anyway, I have to say, that as soon as I logged on this morning, and saw our puzzle, I thought it was tree..mendous. The solve was immediate, but I was definitely drawn into the cartoon…Three male, two female trees, looking so happy to be able to dress up, leaf their cares behind and spend a night out with no twigs attached. And from the looks of them I’d say they’re very poplar amongst their pears…But I can’t help but wonder what’s the occasion, if any. Because it doesn’t look like just a rootine gathering…am I right? Waiter service and the whole thing? Hoot knows..owl guess it’s just one more case of not seeing the forest for the trees…Anyway, let’s leaves drop on some of the party chatter…”My needles just fell into place”…”Aren’t you looking trim tonight”? “Some rainwater, please”. All too funny…Jeff, yew can definitely take a bough!

And that just leaves our eye candy. Nice string of pearls…or perhaps they’re pine cones?…on the woman at front. And you gotta love the red “Christmas” Ball ornament hanging atop the man she’s speaking with. Just sayin’…But I have to go with the two waiters. Bow-tied, serviette at the ready…They’re beavers! Gnaw way it’s gonna get better than that!

So, There yew have it, Folks…Done. Have a great day, Everyone…and I hope I’ve given you a little comic re-leaf. God knows we can all use some. And I’ll leaf yew with a little conifer humor… A lumberjack went into a magic forest to cut down a tree. He chose one, and as he started to swing at it with his axe, the tree said…‘Don’t cut me down..I’m a talking tree”. …“And you will dialogue”, replied the lumberjack…Yeah, oak-a…I’ll leaf! 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  2. 📚 She sat grading papers, and sighed as she read how her student used the word CHEEP instead of cheap, and put an apostrophe on a PLURAL…and disgusted, she called it a day, got ALL SPRUCED UP wearing her new black SCARF, and went out hoping for some UNTOLD pleasure…📚

🐤 He bought himself a little bird… and all it did was CHEEP
It drove him damn near crazy…should he return it or keep?
He tried draping a SCARF atop the cage to calm it down…
But that just turned out futile…might have made him more unwound
His nerves were shot, that’s PLURAL Folks…they all were stretched too thin,
He couldn’t take much more of this…regret was sinking in
And like a Hitchcock movie…he felt horror quite UNTOLD,
This bird would be the death of him…this little thing of gold…
He made his mind up finally…runneth over his cup
“It’s going back” he said aloud as he got ALL SPRUCED UP 🐤

  3. Hi Everyone –
For the first time, I solved the clue words in reverse order, with Cheep requiring me to back in. I wasn’t sure if Cheep was actually a word and had to check the dictionary.
Wonderful song choice, Angela. I enjoyed seeing Ricky Nelson again and listening to his words.

    • Good Morning, Caroline. Early Bird! 😉 Thank you. I enjoyed him too…As for Cheep? You’re not alone…The guys drove me crazy!🤦🏻‍♀️ Enjoy your day, Caroline. It’s so refreshingly cool out…Be well, stay safe. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Good morning. I don’t know where my head was this morning but it reminds me of an entry in my grammar school pad that all the students signed. This one went like this. Can’t think born dumb inspiration won’t come bad ink bad pen best of luck amen. That was me this morning. I actually was stuck on three words. I was so annoyed I looked at the cartoon and had an instant solve. It’s such a nice day I decided to look up the words and see if my blind solve was correct. I guess my head was only partially in the sand. Loved your song choice Angela. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Brooklyn…You always make me smile! Some days just go like that..there’s really no way to explain it. Just shake it off, and chalk it up to…the “whatever” syndrome…I suffer from it a lot! Whatever! See what I mean? 😂 And I’m loving the little grammar school memory. I have all my parents memory books, or whatever they’re called. Autograph books? IDK. And some …well most…of the things the kids wrote are so funny. Rhymes like yours. Innocent, silly, touching. I’m so glad that my parents saved them…it allowed me to get some insight into what they were like as children, and teenagers…Anyway, before I choke myself up, I know I’ve read yours in one of their books….And yes, it is a nice day…I’ve opened all the windows and doors, and I’m enjoying a break from the humidity, as I celebrate St Anthony’s Day, one of my favorite days of the year….Glad you enjoyed the music…it is a nice tune. Have a good one, Paul. Be well, and stay safe out there…🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

  5. My paper newspaper is stuck in a time warp with the puzzles repeats of the June 13, 2019 puzzles, but I think I was able to solve those old 2019 puzzles. As far as the 2020 puzzle,I accessed it online and was able to solve it.Cheep looked strange to me as well, but the dictionary confirmed it as a real word and not a misspelled cheap.Have a good Saturday,we threw caution to the wind and went N to Dixon to watch the 5 yr old twins,Kate and Jane.

    • Good Afternoon, Professor. Two days in a row? Hmm…Well, if it happens tomorrow, I think you need to place a call…Three days without the Jumble is just totally wrong! 😉 Cheep…Yep. As I told Caroline, I was shaking my head so badly with the Early Birds, I’m surprised my vertigo didn’t rear its ugly head…No pun intended! Anyway, here’s last years puzzle, just in case you’d like to check your work! 😉 Enjoy the kids Prof. and be safe out there. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Thanks I did solve last year’s puzzle correctly, thanks for the links.I emailed the paper yesterday ,and they said they would include yesterday’s puzzles and comics in today’s paper, which they did,but then as I said before, today’s puzzle and comics were last year’s as well. They must be living in a twilight zone at the paper.

        • You’re very welcome, Prof. And you’re right…it does sound like a bit of a Twilight Zone scenario. Tell you what. Tomorrow morning I’ll post a link to the puzzle from my paper. My digital paper is usually here by 5:30 ish. This morning it was 5:32 to be exact. This way, if your paper does blow it again, at least you’ll have a copy. And kudos for your solve! Enjoy your day, Prof! 🙋🏻‍♀️

  6. Hi all – I questioned CHEEP, but went with it. Today, the UN trick worked to get UNTOLD quickly, and the double letter trick split the L’s to get PLURAL. I first thought ALL DRESSED UP for the answer, which despite the Christmas ball didn’t quite seem like a proper pun. I thought PINE and EVERGREEN, then had a good laugh when I realized it was my nemesis word SPRUCE, and this time I didn’t have to unscramble it!

I also liked the waiters but mistook them for squirrels, and then it occurred to me that instead of asking for rainwater, the tree on the right should have asked for BRANCH WATER.

Great writeup today Angela with the jokes and “logging on” catching my eye, but I really had to laugh at the early BIRDS dredging up Depeche Mode!
When I went online for the details, I wondered whether you’d use Glenn Miller’s “String of Pearls” for your song.

    Good wishes to everyone.

    • Hey Steve…My first thought was squirrels too, but if you check out that tail, it’s wayyyy too flat to be a squirrel. And I think the idea of beavers getting on the good side of the trees definitely lends itself to the whimsy of the puzzle. I mean, dam…you know…kind of sinks your teeth into the whole thing! 😂 And thanks for the Shout Out. I have to admit, the Early Birds can be entertaining, but after a certain point, when they’re off on one of their tangents, it’s just too much of a NUTty situation, and KNOT as amusing as one might think…In a NUTshell…there’s many a morning where I PINE FIR some peace and quiet! 😉 As for the String of Pearls? Nice, but it really didn’t get to the ROOT of the puzzle…😉 Have a good one, Steve. Be well and stay safe out there…🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

    • The music? I was bandying around with maybe something of SPRUCE Springsteen’s or Justin TIMBERlake’s though…🤦🏻‍♀️

  7. Well at least I’m in good company. I too paused at cheep and checked that it was indeed a word. I always think of birds saying peep not cheep – whatever. Rest of the puzzle fell into place easily – cartoon answer was a given. Hope all of you have a good day.

    • Yes, Betty, you definitely are. And I too think of peep…or chirp, or tweet. But cheep? TBT? Never! And I’d say it’s a cheep shot…but I like David too much to needle him like that…So I just shrubbed it off…😉 I wish you a good day too, Betty. Be well, and stay safe. 🌲🙋🏻‍♀️

        • ROTFL! Betty! Is that a mask I see? You’re too funny! But so on point! Thanks for the laugh…I could always use one. We’re still in pretty much of a mess here in NY…and I’m trying my best to just do one day at a time. I don’t always succeed…but I’m trying! But God, how I hate these masks! 😷😷😷! Happy St Anthony’s Day to you and yours, Betty. Enjoy! 😘🙋🏻‍♀️
