ANSWER:

THE BASKETBALL PLAYER WAS BETTER AT SLAM-DUNKING THAN ANYONE ELSE THERE – – –

NBB OAU SDD ALY PN SE = BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS

Good Morning, Everyone!       🏀  DUNKIN’…NO BUTS! 🏀

🎶 I remember I remember…I go LEAPS AND BOUNDS…Down past the river and across the playing fields…The fields all empty only for the burning leaves…I remember, I remember…I’m not hearing a sound…My feet don’t even touch the ground …I go LEAPS AND BOUNDS…🎶 “Leaps and Bounds” – Paul Kelly (with Glenn Richards and Patience Hodgson) 1987

🏀 A friendly little pick-up game…a most familiar sight,
Likely no SHODDY footwork…’cause that’d only be a blight
They usually start out CALMLY…but some kids can really POUNCE,
And you can hear that B-Ball sound as it begins to bounce…
A kid as good as this one here, he might give you a NIBBLE,
But most likely he’s holding court…and it don’t pay to quibble…
He’s smooth as silk, he’s not OPAQUE..his skill you’ll see at will,
He wrote the book on slam dunking…there won’t be a SEQUEL
And many of pro stars today? This is where they were found…
They schooled the kids on city streets and all BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS 🏀

So…Are a bunch of us “doing Chicago” this morning? 🎶 Does anybody really know what time it is? Does anybody really care?  🎶 Hemmin’ and hawin’, and all the time yawnin’?…Daylight Saving Time…You’d think we’d be used to it by now, right? You know, after all these years…But nope…it still slams us in the head like a ton of bricks…The humanity! And to make matters worse, on the news this morning someone mentioned how optimally adults should average between 7 and 9 hours sleep a night…7 to 9 hours??? In ONE night? Are you kidding me? I almost choked on the donut I was dunking in my coffee! Well, I don’t know about you Folks, but I’d pay good money…Anyway…To those of you out there who like me segued into DST this morning…Enjoy that extra cup of coffee…we’re gonna need it…

Ok. Our words…So I didn’t go deep into the Archives this morning, (that pesky DST again)… but I can tell you that each of our words have been bouncing around Jumbletown for a while now, some more than others…and all six of them were last seen during ‘18 and ‘19.  And even though OPAQUE is a masterful anagram, I’m going with POUNCE as the dribbler…only because 4 of the Early Birds saw Coupon, and then wondered why they couldn’t get the solve with the letters they were playing with. Hmm…But the rest of the team slam dunked the solution without even glancing at the words…

So, with March Madness a week away, how appropriate that today we find ourselves playing Basketball. But perhaps today is a throw-back Sunday. We’re at a pick-up game on a neighborhood court, maybe in Wilmington, North Carolina. And someone’s doing just that…Holding court. We see four pre-teen boys…one not only taller than the rest, but according to the dialogue, he’s already sprouting a mustache! Let’s call him Michael. He jumps, he dominates…and he slam dunks every time…all the while with his tongue sticking out. (Scroll down to #3)…It’s like he’s floating on Air! (And check out those sneakers)! This kid is not only the best on the block. he surpasses all the others…and his game is definitely a head above the restBY LEAPS AND BOUNDS! Great play, David. Let’s hoop this kid goes pro

Eye candy? Spot on cartoon, but nothing’s really leaping out at me…even though I thought something was bound to pop up...And anyway, nothing’s gonna top that signature tongue...So, There you have it Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And I hoop you’re all enJordan it so far…🏀🙋🏻‍♀️

So…I went with Michael Jordan...despite the #’s 8 and 24…and despite Kobe’s prowess…I tried to figure out the timeline, and yes, there probably was enough time after Kobe’s death for the puzzle to be submitted and show up today, since submission is usually 5-6 weeks before publication. It’d be cutting it close, but it’s doable. And it was a tough call…And I went back and forth with it for a while. Kobe lived in Italy during his youth, but he was back in America by the time he was 13ish, which these kids look to be. And then the whole thing started to give me a headache! Anyone who knows me, knows that I take writing this blog very seriously, despite my penchant for joking and often creating my own characters to match Jeff’s drawings…But this seems kind of real. And I’d never want to give out the wrong information, and truth be told, I’d never want to diss Kobe’s memory. And I also know that this probably doesn’t matter to most readers, but to us sports fans, it does. So I’m taking the shot, and going with Michael, and figuring that Jeff’s giving Kobe a Shout Out, a nod…And I’m going that way if nothing more than the tongue sticking out. Actually because of the tongue sticking out. That’s ALL Michael…and every Basketball fan knows that…As I said, it was a tough call….

RIP, Mamba. 💔🙏🏻

  1. 🥘 Always a little OPAQUE in his mannerisms, he CALMLY tried to NIBBLE at the SHODDY-looking meal put before him, but he really just wanted to POUNCE BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS on the guy who served it to him…and he swore there’d be no SEQUEL to him ever eating here again…🥘

  2. 🏡 The draperies were too OPAQUE, and also kind of SHODDY,
She took it all in…the decor, as she drank her hot toddy…
She CALMLY looked in every room, a NIBBLE thought or two,
And knew that she would surely POUNCE to handle this re-do…
The SEQUEL to how this house looks…her plans would def resound…
She’d love to decorate this place…and work BY LEAPS AND BOUNDS 🏡

  3. Good morning. I had a slam dunk myself but if I were to choose for a hardest word it would be Pounce because like others I too saw coupon first and then realized the letters didn’t match what they had. The cartoon took a little time for me to finally grasp the answer. I did it by getting the two and three letter words first. Then saw leaps and bounds to complete the clever answer. Went back yesterday and saw your second song choice you left me Angela. Thank you, enjoyed it as well as your perfect pick today. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn. Gleaning the small words out first is a smart move…narrows the playing field! And as always, you’re very welcome for the music. I’m glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for the Shout Out…Have a great day, Paul…We’re slated to have beautiful weather. Before you know it you’ll be back out on that Bocce court!🏀🙋🏻‍♀️

  4. Hi all – Got all the words – having two of them with QU given was a Sunday gift. I was stuck on the answer for awhile. Figured one word was AND and maybe another ended in ED, but got nowhere until I finally saw that the two letter word was BY, and then it appeared.

Yes, when I went online, the first thing that I noticed were Kobe’s numbers 24 and 8, most likely not a coincidence. True enough about Jordan’s tongue sticking out Angela, but then *any* character Jeff draws who’s exerting himself has his tongue sticking out.

Have a great day, everyone! Happy International Women’s Day to all, and I hope we all adjust to the time change without too much trouble.

    • …And we were just talking about Michael Jordan’s tongue on Wednesday! What’re the odds? 😉 Thanks for the IWD Shout Out…(according to the Lou’s EVERY day is IWD)! 😉 And I think besides the internal clock getting screwed up a little, the tough part of the onset of DST is it being dark again in the mornings when the kids have to get ready and leave for school…As I mentioned, it’s kind of like we forget from one year to the next! 😉 Have a great day, Steve! 🏀🙋🏻‍♀️

      • Yes, dark again in the morning, even worse for you in the higher latitudes. That’s why I hated the last change starting DST so early, not to mention the fact that it was the first time it had changed since computers came into widespread use and those who voted on it never seemed to realize that it would cost a lot of money and take a vast effort to change all the systems.

      • Years ago, I guess it had its impact. But today, with computers, air conditioners, TV’s in every room, (I’m guilty myself of having too many)…we use more energy, no matter if the sun is up or not. Today, the amount of energy saved from DST is negligible. IDK, it’s a crap shoot…I always remember my Grandmother saying that there was “the real time and the fake time”..although now I forget which was which to her…⏰🤷🏻‍♀️

  5. Got all the anagrams without difficulty but not the answer – had to put it down the paper and come back to it several times but I finally figured it out – I’ll attribute my difficulty to losing an hour’s sleep. Have a good Sunday, all.
