Jumble Answers for 09/19/2019

Happy Thursday, everyone. I’m not usually blunt, but I have to call a spade a spade. Today’s final answer was a royal pain in the ace! We’ve been dealt some easy hands this week, so it was nice of David to up the ante as Friday approaches.

Our favorite Jumble joker didn’t club us with any new clue words this morning, but all of the anagrams were original. My solve hit a bit of a dry spell when it came time to unscramble LOADED. My downfall was trying to pair up the D’s when I should have been splitting them. It was also our oldest word and last appeared on 2/17/16. LOWLY was our most recent returning repeat with a gameplay date of 3/30/19.

Today’s cartoon featured five Jumble characters that are finishing up an evening of playing cards. The cartoon sentence informs us that the game was poker and we see the winner receiving her payout like she’s on a game show. Speaking of game shows, the character with glasses appears to be Lissa Sears, and she actually was on The Price is Right! She’s also a good friends with Jeff and has appeared in a handful of his cartoons.

The details weren’t as detailed as some of the other poker panels we’ve had in the past, and my best guess is that Jeff wanted his friend to pop a little more. There were poker chips and cards in the center of a hexagon table, and one woman seems to be texting as the night comes to a close. Those bills do have faces on them, but they were generic and unrecognizable.

The final solve was an anagram consisting of 14-letters and would solve into three words. The layout was extremely cryptic and didn’t give anything away. Scouring the cartoon for clues, I finally zeroed in on the word “bucks”. The visual clue of the pile of money helped me find DOLLAR BILLS, and WON was right there to finish it all off. Well played, David & Jeff! Have a terrific Thursday, and I’ll see you right back here tomorrow!

  1. Good morning. Ditto like Annonymous. Thought the cartoon answer was ill Gotten Gains. When I saw that it wasn’t. I decided to move on. Until tomorrow stay well

  2. Hi Everyone –
I was stuck on the answer, too, until I looked at the drawing again and saw the bills and the woman counting them one by one. At first I thought the answer would include a poker term.

  3. Not really a card person…got the four words, but was “trumped” on the answer… tomorrow’s another day…

  4. 4 words came even loaded, but the final solution other than win or won,the correct first word, stumped me.As I didn’t see the pile of “bucks” in the cartoon.

  5. Wow! Could not get the answer to the cartoon. Kept thinking “Win” but was stumped after that. Loaded also took me the longest to solve. Like you, Mike, I was putting the two d’s together. Better luck tomorrow.

  6. Hi all – No problem with the words. I think failing on SPRUCE so many times set me up to see SPLINT. Just happened to try ED at the end for LOADED instead of the double letter trick. Had to admit defeat on the answer. I really thought I had it when “Ill-gotten gains” fit the layout (just like you Paul!), but there wasn’t even a single ‘G’ to be had. Then I figured “WON” worked for the pun, but couldn’t see the rest.

    Have a great day, everyone!

  7. Definitely a WINNING puzzle! And an iDEAL pun…You ‘gotta HAND it to the Guys today…they PLAYED this very, very well! Have a great day, Everyone! ♠️♥️🙋🏻

🎶 I wanna HOLD ‘EM like they do in Texas plays…FOLD ‘EM, let ’em, HIT ME, RAISE IT, Baby STAY with me (I love it)…Love Game intuition, PLAY the CARDS with SPADES to start…And after he’s been hooked I’ll PLAY the one that’s on his heart…Can’t read my…Can’t read my…No he CAN’T READ my POKER FACE…🎶 “Poker Face” – Lady Gaga 2008 https://tinyurl.com/yyz4qls3

❤️♠️ To win your hand at poker, a stoic face is key…
And then of course, you never BLURT out…”Oh this King makes three..”
Your hand could be quite LOADED, but mum’s always the word,
To “tip your hand” is just taboo…considered quite absurd…
Stay low key, while not LOWLY, demeanor means a lot,
(But of course skill’s important, if you want to take the pot)…
But keep in mind, just like a SPLINT, your eyes need to stay thin,
Look closely at the others, but refrain from frown or grin…
And in the end you’ll come out with “the table”, if you will…
And walk away victorious…for you “WON” DOLLAR BILLS! ♣️♦️

    • Lots of great card songs, eh?
🎵“Don’t you draw the Queen of Diamonds, boy
She’ll beat you if she’s able
The Queen of Hearts is always your best bet
Now, it seems to me some fine things
Have been laid upon your table
But you only want the ones that you can’t get”🎵

      Have a good one. 🙋🏻‍♂️

      • Yes Steve, there are a few to sPAIR.,,But In my HEART, nothing can HOLD a candle to Kenny Rogers’🎶The Gambler🎶..https://tinyurl.com/y9mr5q2x….Only I’ve SPADE it so many times before, I thought I’d change my LUCK today and go with a song they PLAY a lot in the CLUBS…A DIAMOND in the rough, so to speak.😉 Wishing you a good one too! ♥️🙋🏻

  8. Speaking of Kenny Rogers,we were up at the USA side of the Niagra Falls looking out at them, when Kenny Rogers and a film crew happened by.Alas we took his picture, long before cell, phone cameras, but did not get his autograph. As he said,”You have to know when to hold them and when to fold them.”

    • Hey Professor. But at least you got your pic! I saw him in concert…maybe 2010-11…and I didn’t get his autograph either.😉 And yep, it’s all in the timing! 🤠🙋🏻

  9. Was heartened to see I was not the only one today who felt like being dealt a bad hand. Usually get these done before going to the office. Tomorrow’s another day🤷‍♂️
