Good Morning, Everyone!        🌜🚀  WE CHOOSE TO GO TO THE MOON 🚀🌛

🎶 Fly me to the MOON, Let me play among the stars…Let me see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars…In other words, hold my hand, In other words, Baby, kiss me…🎶 “Fly Me to the Moon” – Frank Sinatra   1969

🌜🚀 John Kennedy had visions of things that were to come,
And STODGY-minded thinkers probably numbered more than some…
His words hit like a HAMMER, but belief would be UPHELD,
As Kennedy went forward with his wants and hopes to meld…
On BEHALF of all America, he spoke without a doubt,
And people in the crowd began applauding and to shout.
And men dressed in their suits and ties with women CALICO clad…
Probably thought IRONIC all these brand new thoughts he had.
And thinking of the man right now, this man who died too soon…
I wonder what I would have felt when he PROMISED THE MOON 🚀🌛

IRONICally, after using the two half MOON emojis to open my post, I find that half of our words this morning aren’t showing up in the Archives. UPHELD, CALICO, and BEHALF may all prove to be part of David’s new PROMISED listing...As for our other three words, STODGY goes way back to 08/08/11 becoming our oldest, while IRONIC‘s last appearance was as recent as  02/24, making it our newest. And HAMMER was last in game play on 10/29/18.  As to any degree of difficulty, two Early Birds paused momentarily at UPHELD, while one was stymied by CALICO.  So now, with a tap on the SPACE bar…on to our cartoon…

September 12th, 1962, a hot summer day in Houston Texas... Amidst a fierce “space race” with the Soviet Union, we find ourselves sitting outdoors, amongst a crowd of 40,000 people in the Rice University Football Stadium. President John F. Kennedy steps up to the podium...and we’re witness to his historic “We Choose To Go To The Moon” speech…And despite the cost, and the doubt, the fear, and the mystery…we did succeed in going to the Moon…So, as we prepare to celebrate the historic 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11’s Moon Landing come July 20th, I present to you a glance back to the beginning…Here in its entirety is President Kennedy’s moving speech...Where he emphasized the freedom enjoyed by we Americans to choose our destiny rather than have it chosen for us…And as you read along, you can hear the actual inspiring words spoken by our late President Kennedy, as he…PROMISED THE MOON…I hope you enjoy it as much as I did…

Have a great day, Everyone…and may we always believe in a New Frontier…🚀🙋🏻

  1. Good Morning, Everyone…Good Morning, Paul and Chuck…These words gave me grief. While I didn’t see any problem in rhyming for the Jumble-themed poem, for some reason both this poem and the sentence had me re-writing more than once. I just couldn’t blend the words
easily, and I went back and forth on a topic..But here it is…I LANDED on my feet, bit it was a bumpy RIDE! 🌜🚀🙋🏻

° On BEHALF of her Father, it was important that she UPHELD all the requirements of the Woodworking class, but she found it IRONIC that the entire chapter on “The Proper Use of a HAMMER” was more STODGY then the one on “CALICO -Covered Couches”…yet she stuck with it because she had PROMISED THE MOON to Him on his deathbed…

° I knew some book club people once, behavior quire moronic…
They couldn’t bear the misuse of coincidence/IRONIC…
I’d often find myself at odds, defending my BEHALF,
I hated when the STODGY group would criticize and laugh.
    One woman in particular, a CALICO-clad drone…
Would talk about these speech faux pas…she just could not condone…
To spend one’s time concerned so much to HAMMER over dross
As if she UPHELD this small rule was worth at any cost…
I left the group, I couldn’t bear to be labeled buffoon…
These lunatics just missed the joke…We read PROMISED THE MOON

    • Hi Suzanne…The Jumble creators use only the Merriam Webster Dictionary to validate the words they choose for the puzzles. Although there may be an alternate word found somewhere else, most often it proves to be a rather obscure one, and they try very hard to avoid such words. Thanks for commenting and we hope you’ll continue to do so in the future…Have a great day, Suzanne! 🙋🏻

  2. Dear Frank Sinatra: there is no spring on Jupiter or Mars. On behalf of us cynics stop hammering such calico dreams and stay with the stodgy truth that upheld the ironic ionic storms that permeate these worlds. Sorry Angela it’s my first attempt & after reading it maybe my last. Jamu

    • Dear Jamu. My first thought upon readng this was that it evoked a memory of Judy Garland singing “You Made Me Love You” to Clark Gable in the movie, “Broadway Melody of 1938”. https://tinyurl.com/yxej4lbc There’s no accounting for how my mind works…My second thought was that you probably picked the hardest day ever for your maiden voyage…These words were not kind to one another. But I applaud 👏🏻👏🏻your imagination and give you a definite A for effort..That being said…I’m going to have another look at Clark…One can never get their fill of looking at Clark…❤️ Have a great day, Jamu! 🚀🙋🏻

      • If there’s no spring on Jupiter or Mars, let’s just settle for Quincy or Nyack. 😂 (And by the way, I just landed in Niagara on Word Search World Traveler 😂)🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Seems like there’s no Spring in NYC either! Looks like once again we’re going from winter right into summer…🌞🙋🏻

    • I usually say …”Credit card, money order, cashier’s check” I make it a rule to never accept a personal check….😂🙋🏻

        • 😉 Clay….Sorry..it’s not you! Too often my fingers run ahead of my thoughts…I was likening your “Testing 1-2-3” to a person doing a mic check…and the line came to mind, but I should have written it out in its entirety…..😂😂 In fact in my reply to Steve, I copied and pasted it to him in error…Or maybe you had to be there! 😂 A play on “I don’t accept personal checks” …not even a mic one…Yea, you had to be there…😉🙋🏻

  3. What’s even more amazing is that Kennedy promised to put a man on the moon before the decade was out! Made it by that much as Maxwell Smart would say!

    • Good Afternoon, Clay…The whole idea of Space Travel is mind boggling to me…The visionaries who dared make it possibly were truly great minds…Sad though that Kennedy never go to see the fulfillment of his dream…😢🚀🙋🏻

  4. Hi all – BEHALF took extra time after seeing ABLE, FLEA(BAG) and FEEBLE, but then I saw the HALF. The answer avoided saying THE MOON so that was a given, and the first word had to end in ED, so I wrote the remaining letters and saw PROMISED. That gave me the letters for CALICO, but it still took quite awhile to back into it.

“We choose to do the Jumble on Sundays not because it is easy, but because it is haaaad.”(Sometimes even “Wicked Haaad”. 😂)

Angela, that is an outstanding poem, both in using the words and the sentiment behind it. (And “New Frontier”; good song and album by The Kingston Trio).

Have a great Sunday everyone. We’re having a 3-day heatwave here.

Here’s my sentence attempt, with a lot of help from Wikipedia:
“It was IRONIC that the vandals thought they had UPHELD the position on BEHALF of the STODGY weavers by taking a HAMMER to the cotton trade, whereas all they accomplished was boosting the CALICO imports from India.”

    • Hey Steve….Thank you very much..😘 .I was a little surprised myself at how quickly I wrote it, as compared to the second go-around attempt without the MOON BEAM..I mean the Moon theme…But there was a fleeting moment when my second line ended in …”thought that he had hit the rum…” (It was 2:30 in the morning…. my mind was still in “Saturday night” mode)….😉 I think the words came so easily because they were heartfelt, and I have the utmost respect for what was the “New Frontier”. …And that’s one hell of a sentence! 👏🏻👏🏻 ..Wikipedia not withstanding! 😉 Have a great day, Steve…🌛🚀🙋🏻
Oh…Did the pic of Kennedy open up full screen on your end too? I tried so hard to reduce iit, but I wasn’t having much luck at 5 AM…I thought to SCRUB the mission altogether, but it’s such a great picture of him, and obviously where Jeff drew his inspiration…🙋🏻

      • “Hit the rum” would have been funny! 😂
The picture did open full screen, but no problem there.
The details of the speech being at Rice were great.
Thanks about my sentence. I guess we both hit Wikipedia pretty hard this morning. I couldn’t bear to take a hammer to the poor calico kitty, so I looked for an alternate meaning and that’s what came up.
        Have a great day! 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • Yea, funny but a tad disrespectful, and I couldn’t go there…And Rice..yes, I was thrilled to find the entire text of the speech in Kennedys voice…But why are you thinking I “hit Wikpedia”? .I alsways search Google for stock photos…And looking for a speech one, that came up among others…WikiMEDIA …😉🙋🏻

    • Sorry about the credit card comment coming out here…I went to copy and paste from my first poem draft, and picked up on the wrong sentence…😱🙋🏻

  5. Steve, your addition of “wicked haad” brought back memories of Boston
and happier days that ran too short and the darkness that followed
