Jumble Answers for 04/24/2019

Good Morning, Everyone!         📖 TIME AFTER TIME 📖

🎶And all fire and flames took all we trust…We’re kicking up dust
Stations fade, just like they do..Oh, TIME WILL TELL, we always knew…Oh, TIME WILL TELL, we always knew…🎶  “Time Will Tell” Gregory Alan Isakov 2013

📖 Time Magazine is widely known for “Person of the Year”,
The winners have been varied, have come from here and there…
Some WITTY, some quite MELLOW, some thought to be INEPT,
An on-line poll is held to see who people might accept…
Decision though is narrowed down and it’s the Editors choice,
Consideration taken but the final say their voice…
Who’s next to win the coveted “prize”? Someone that we revere?
A Johnny Come LATELY…or someone whose name we hear?
The secrecy surrounds it…the issue really sells…
But ’til the publication date…there’s no way TIME WILL TELL 📖

This morning’s word search seems to have turned up a new entry for we Jumble devotees…MELLOW. As familiar as it may look, I wasn’t able to find it in our Archives. Our other words…old favorites. INEPT, seen as recently as February 8th, makes its’ ninth appearance, and today’s anagram has been used twice before in the past. WITTY and LATELY, both last seen in 2018, are anagrammed anew, with Witty going back as far as 2015. And it was Lately, masterfully anagrammed in my opinion that took the Early Birds the longest TIME to solve, perhaps because of the word ALL showing at its’ end…Ok…we’ve spent enough TIME here, let’s move on to our cartoon…

Today’s puzzle theme centers on TIME Magazines’PERSON OF THE YEAR“.  Time’s most famous feature throughout its history has been this annual cover story, in which the magazine recognizes the individual or group of individuals who have had the biggest impact on news headlines over the past 12 months. Despite the Magazine holding a poll asking for its readers input, the final decision is always made by the Editors alone. With this in mind, it seems that Jeff has brought us into the office of Edward Felsenthal, who at the end of this year will be the man making the next decision, and who today takes center stage. And the dialogue of the woman with him, most likely an Assistant Editor, holds the key to today’s solution...”put out a press release SOON“..relating to “time“. But I do feel that unless one is familiar with the Magazine, and its annual issue, today’s solve may not be that easily reached. I guess only TIME WILL TELL…

Ok, eye candy…The panel is pretty basic. Showing just our two characters, three easels of the finalists, and two photos on the wall, it’s completely shaded in a soft beige tone. Rather dignified, as you’d expect the Editorial offices of Time Magazine to be. Mr Felsenthal (presumably) wears a cocoa colored suit, over a white shirt and black tie, and his co-worker wears a sleeveless rust-colored blouse. Subtle, non-description. But it’s the PERSONS on the wall that Jeff’s chosen to feature amongst all past winners, that takes the prize. He’s NARROWED IT DOWN to Former Presidents Bill Clinton, (1992, 1998) left and George W. Bush (2000, 2004), right…Bipartisan. I like that…So, There you have it, Folks, Done! Have a great day, Everyone! And take some TIME to…(you fill in the blank)! 📖🙋🏻

📖 PS: Was todays question with its’ mention of the Magazine, and “Person of the Year” an instant connection to Time Magazine for you? I feel so, but I’m wondering if everyone else agrees. Why not take a moment to let us know your thoughts about today’s solution? 🤔🙋🏻

  1. LATELY there’s been a lot of chatter
Time’s person of the year is quite a big matter
Will it be a woman or another fellow
Be most assured they won’t be MELLOW
    Never INEPT but sometime WITTY
Thank heaven no animals or it might be a kitty
Editors abound for a pick to gel
As very soon TIME WILL TELL

    • Good Morning, Jim! Bravo! 👏🏻👏🏻 What a pleasant surprise this early in the day! Very well done! Have we another logophile in our midst? Maybe we should start a club? 😉 Hope you have a great day, Jim! Off to work soon? 📖🙋🏻

      • I continue to look forward to your in depth approach to what started for me as another challenge located next to the daily crossword puzzle. I log in when I can based on my day as I get a kick out of not only your wit but other contributors as well. No time to get in weeds for the color version which seems pretty cool. Someday when I want to get kooky I guess.

Off to work soon on what looks to be a grand and glorious day. Enjoy 😉

        • Thank you, Jim, you’re very kind. And don’t get me started on the crossword puzzles! LOL! I just love words.. I always have since I was a little bitty thing. Words and baseball…(And the Jumble in color is fantastic)! 😉 I’m glad you’re enjoying yourself here, as I enjoy your input also, and you’re a welcome addition. And yes, the morning is beautiful here also…Have a wonderful day…it’s off to a good start! 📖🙋🏻

  2. Another instant blind solve. You knew TIME had to be in there when “the magazine” was unnamed. One glance at the answer and I knew the rest.
Good choice on the song, Angela. I only know of the song and the artist because of the Subaru commercial. Being a Subaru driver might make me like it even more.

    • Hi Mike. Good Morning. I totally agree. But my friend this morning mentioned that perhaps I was taking too much for granted thinking that the Magazine and it’s “Person of the Year” was such a given. I’m hoping readers may write in to say…LOL! My song! Me too, the Subaru commercial! I’m buggy like that. If I hear a piece of music in a commercial, I’m like a dog with a bone…Googling the h–l out of it…And that’s how I learnt of this one….I think it’s a beautiful sound, a little haunting. I’m glad his enjoyed it, fellow music lover…and thanks for the Shout Out! Have a great day, Mike! 📖🙋🏻

      • I also remember Googling “song in Subaru commercial” after I first saw that commercial, which might have been over a year ago. I see from Wikipedia that Gregory Alan Isakov was born in South Africa, and now resides in Boulder.

        • So you’re like me then? I’m obsessed until I find out what it is…Thank God for Googke, right? I don’t remember what I did years ago, really? What did we do? 😉 As for the artist? I have to be honest … One of my nephews got hold of the music and that was enough to satisfy me. It’s on one of my playlists, but I don’t know much about the guys story…Have a good one, Mike! 🎶🎶🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. LATELY the WITTY comedian has been very INEPT because he has been MELLOW with all his jokes.

    • Brooklyn? Two days in a row? Do I detect a pattern emerging? And dare I once again ask if there’s some truth to all this? 😂😂 Bravo,👏🏻👏🏻 Paul! I love it! But what have I started here? I really do think we have something going on, don’t you? Creative Writing 101, the on-line Jumble Version?! 😂😂 Well done, Brooklyn!…So, your thoughts on the puzzle? 📖🙋🏻

  4. Good morning. I got the first part off thinking I’d be the first to take a stab at the words and see that I’m a Paulie come lately. Today’s jumble for me was a teeny weenie harder than our Monday jumble. As for the cartoon answer, that didn’t come right away. But that’s ok., It finally did hit me and all is well with the world. Angela knowing me,all I have to say is that your song choice was interesting. Out of respect to your knowledge of music ,I will say that I listened from beginning to end. Nice use of the words. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • LOL! Brooklyn…how you do make me laugh! You’re such a charmer! Out of respect for my music knowledge? 😂😂 Subtle…I love it..Yes, Paul, I do think I know you! Not to your liking, I gotcha…To be honest? You always seem to come to mind when I’m choosing my music, and I had a strong feeling this wasn’t something you’d enjoy…But the thing is, there was a Subaru commercial last year, and they played this song…And YOU knowing ME?..😉 I couldn’t let it go without finding out what it was…And this was it. So this morning, when I saw the answer to the puzzle…that little bell went off…and the rest is, as they say…history. So, there you have it! 😉 But, I offer you kudos for listening to the whole thing (what did you figure? That it might get better)? 😂..And, I must say, you are “growing” when it comes to your tolerance of music! 😉 I gotta give you credit for that! ..The puzzle? A bit of a challenge, but definitely doable.,So Time Magazine didn’t come to you immediately? My friend might be right…Jeez…who wants to hear him? He’ll be giving me that peacock routine! 😂😂😂 Ok, ok…enough! I have sausage and peppers to get started with…And as for the Paulie Come Lately? Again, you definitely can make me laugh…and you’re definitely not a Come Lately to me! Thanks for the Shout Out, and I hope you’re off to entertain the Bocce players…We couldn’t ask for better weather, 🌞🙋🏻

  5. Her normally total INEPT specimen of a husband LATELY has turned into a very MELLOW individual with a surprisingly WITTY demeanor.

    • Did he by any chance retire?!!! 😂😂😂 You got me ROTFL!! Looks like today we’re leaning in the same direction…albeit with a different slant! And for the record, I wrote mine around 5 this morning! Kudos, Chuck…👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 You had me at “specimen”!!’ 😂😂😂 🙋🏻

🛠 Having always been INEPT at home repairs…LATELY, since retiring, he found an increasing enjoyment in tackling them… and hoped his wife wouldn’t find out about the MELLOW, fetching, very WITTY female carpenter giving classes at Home Depot…TIME WILL TELL…but he won’t! 🛠

        • Hey Chuck. Thank you…But it wasn’t so tongue-in-cheek..It’s a little bit of art imitating life. One of the Home Depots that I frequent? All of a sudden…such an interest in these carpentry demos…I give them credit…it’s all in the advertising!!! 😂😂 Hope you’re enjoying the sunshine too…🌞🙋🏻

  6. Had a blind solve, but then solved LATELY as TALLEY. Had to fix my work on the last word! Everything else was a snap.

    • Hi John. I hear you. A few of my friends yelled out Tally first too…We do a FaceTime in the wee small, and it’s like a zoo some mornings. They think they’re playing Jeopardy! 😂 And I agree, it was an easy breezy, IMO…Have a good one, John! 📖🙋🏻

  7. Good morning. You had me ROTFL Angela with your comment about hoping the song would get better. Your exactly right. I was hoping it would equal that song “Time after Time”. Now your going to make me check who sung it and it’s writer. My free time for bocce is getting shorter. Take care.

    • Because I DO. know you Brooklyn! And as I said, I knew it wasn’t your taste. But I also know that you’re trusting…So I just figured you’d wait it out and hope for the best! 😂😂….But what’s up with Bocce? 🤔🙋🏻

  8. Good morning. To save anybody time. I checked out the song Time after Time and I found that the singer and song writer was non other then Cyndi Lauper. It was her #1 first hit in U.S. from her album. I give her props for always re-inventing herself. I remember her days as a wrestler with her manager Lou Albano. She knows how to land on her feet.

    • Who’d you mean by anybody? 😉 Yes, you’re right, Cyndi Lauper, nice song…But I hear that title, and my head goes in a totally different direction …The great songwriting team of Sammy Cahn, and Julie Styne. The song, written for Sinatra, 1947, for the movie, ” It Happened on Brooklyn”. Now THIS is music …
And check out Durante! Sinatra was so skinny back then, he could shade himself just standing under Jummy’s nose! 😉 Only thing… The sound quality isn’t very good, so turn up your speakers …It gives me the chills…🙋🏻

    • Brooklyn…I should add that I’m not meaning to take anything away from Cyndi. I always liked her…Just that, as I said, I think Sinatra before I do her when it comes to the title. This is definitely a nice piece of music too…And check out Nipper, the RCA Dog! So cute! And how’s that for a blast from the past? 🐶🙋🏻

      • My two cents worth, Angela. I think Judy Garland’s version of Time After Time is just as memorable as any version!

        • Chuck…I found this for you. Again, as I fear I may have done with Paul, I didn’t mean to make light of your choice, or Judy for that matter…I’m not crazy about the intro on this, puts me in mind of a comic western, with that clip-clopping-like sound…like horses, ..But it’s all I could find. And you know I was just breaking your shoes with the Sinatra swoon comment…I hope I didn’t offend you in any way…
I like Judy’s voice, but for some reason I always found her heart-wrenching…hard to explain. But her “Over The Rainbow”? One of the best recordings ever made, IMO.

Anyway, after you listen to this….Scroll down to the 12th comment…
          Kind of says it all…🎶🙋🏻

      • Thanks Angela for the three (actually four)different versions of the song. First time for all the songs. I actually liked the one by Cyndi in her chic flick better. It was enjoyable watching all of them.

  9. I also originally saw talley rather than lately, but given that correction, and all the L’s along with the Time Magazine theme ,Time will tell was a blind solve.Have a great day.

    • Good Morning, Prof. I think a good number of people saw Tally right out of the gate…and you’re right, we did rack up those L’s this morning…And again, as I told John, I too felt the solution was an easy, breezy…Enjoy your day, Prof! 📖🙋🏻

  10. Easy one for a Wednesday. No problem with the words or cartoon solution. Hope all of you have a good day.

    • Good Morning, Betty. Yes it was…and a very clever one too…Hope you had a good Easter…And here’s to a great day! 📖🙋🏻

  11. Hi all – No problems with words or answer today. LATELY was easy to solve if you first try ‘LY’ at the end which I always do.

Actually, I didn’t instantly think of the magazine. I saw the answer first, and only then noticed the pictures on the wall and thought, “Oh right, Time magazine”. Does this answer come close to violating the “proper name” rule?

“It’s not that I’ve become MELLOW; I’ve just felt too INEPT to be WITTY LATELY.”

Have a great day, everyone! Still warm/hot beautiful weather to enjoy here.

    • Steve Lyric? …As compared to Steve Music? 😉 …What’s up with that? And yes, but the LY would work at the end of Tally also, right? As for the proper name rule, no. There’s the pun…Time WILL tell…TIME will tell..inflection…could be any magazine. But that was rhetorical .wasn’t it? 😉 Great sentence…👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I like it! (Art imitating life)?? 😂😂…JJ…Have a great day, G…Enjoy the weather..🌞🙋🏻

        • LOL! Stevie Wonder? Been there, done that! .I use that excuse all the time! 😂😂 🙋🏻

  12. Does anyone here do the USA TODAY crossword puzzle? The answers are always easy but the subject of the puzzle is hidden in usually either 3 or 4 answers. Sometimes very easy association, sometimes very difficult.
    Today’s subject is HIGH IMPACT
And the answers associated with that clue are PODOFWHALES, PEARLOFWISDOM, PRINCEOFWALES, and PIECEOFWORK
The only thing I see is that each has a P word and a W word and OFW is shared by all as the word OF. I can’t figure it out!

    • Clay…Would it be POW..as hitting something? …HIGH IMPACT. POW – hitting with force? Like the old Batman cartoons I think it was, where you’d see POW! and BOOM! ! etc., written on the screen during the fight scenes? …Remember “POW ZOOM” ….Ralph Kramden to the long-suffering Alice? 😂😂😂 🙋🏻

      • Wow, very good. POW for all answers! I knew I came to the right place since you and others are already puzzle solvers. Thanks Angela!

        • You’re very welcome, Clay. It’s what I call the Forest for the Trees Syndrome…I’m notorious for it. It’s right there, but you’re “thinking it too hard” as one on my Little Ones likes to say.😂😂 ..Or as my Gramdmother phrased it…”The people who don’t see the nose on your face” ..She had an amazing way of butchering the English language with Her “fractured” broken-English! And sometimes you just need to Blink! 😉 I don’t do the puzzle..but now you’ve whet my appetite…I’m such a sucker for word play…Hope you’re enjoying your day, Clay! .🙋🏻

PS: One of my Grandma’s favorites…(As words of forewarning)..”Don’t count the chickens before the turkeys”..,😉 Yep..There you have it…And we all knew what She meant…In fact my cousins and I still say it like that ’til this day….😂🙋🏻

      • If I get stuck again, I’m coming here for help. There is no site like you and Mike have for the the USA crossword puzzle. They all give the answers but not the final answer as you solved. No comment section either on any of them. That is why this site is so good on both solving and finding hidden gems. Thank you again!!

        • LOL! YVW…Glad I could be of help..but I better sharpen my teeth, huh? Tomorrow you may ask me something, and I’ll fall flat on my face! 😉 Just like Gradma said…Don’t start counting those damn chickens! ROTFL!!!…I don’t know much about on-line sites, in fact I never “spoke” in public until my cousin accused me one day of “looking up” the Jumble answer when I gave him a solve he couldn’t get. I had no idea what he was talking about, and he led me here…I remember asking him why didn’t he just look here then…but he said he was holding out hoping he’d get it on his own…(or thinking he might stump me)..LOL! 😂🙋🏻
