CARTOON ANSWER:     THE DOG’S FAVORITE TYPE OF CHAIR IS A – – –

GRA  BRL   KNO   UEA  =     “BARK-A-LOUNGER”

Good Morning, Everyone!            🐶 DOGGONE IT! 🐶

🎶 If I had my life to live over…I know just what I’d like to be. A pampered PET of a rich brunette, sitting on my Mama’s knee…Someone to love me, Someone to care..Rubberduck dubble little fingers through my hair…I need a DOG’S life, What a life, that’s good enough for me….That’s good enough for me…🎶 “A Dog’s Life” – Elvis  1965

🐶 At first we feel UNEASY picking on the little pup,
We must look so big and BURLY when the little guy looks up…
It’s a KNOTTY situation…once you start the habit forms,
And then Dog upon your furniture has now become the norm.
But it simply stands to reason that a chair that you love best,
Is going to be the one he’ll choose when looking for a rest..
Only now his presence like a GRAFT has taken its’ own place,
And there’s times when who first hits the chair becomes a little race…
So the pup who’s now a full grown Dog’s become a cushion scrounger,
And just like you his favorite chair is now the “BARK-A-LOUNGER”!🐶

Each of our words today is a Sweet Repeat. We have 2 words from 2016, and 2 from 2017. As to today’s COMFORT LEVEL within our words, what I’m hearing so far this morning is that UNEASY made quite a few Folks just that…UN is it the U-N? Most likely…but seeing SAY as soon as we look at the word may also have something to do with it. Although when it last appeared on December 14th, ’17 as YUSANE, it also caused a bit of Unease…Let’s see what tree it BARKS up this time around…

Our cartoon today brings us into an average living room, where we see a not so average BARCALOUNGER. I only say this because the LOUNGER we see here  is a bright Salmon-colored one, not the usual Black, Brown, Beige we’ve all come to know and love over the years. We see our co-star, a man looking to be in his 30’s, showing annoyance at finding his DOG cozily ensconced in his favorite chair. He’s TAILing him to MOVE off his chair, but our REGAL BEAGLE seems to be the KING of this Castle..and gives him a “WOOF you leave me alone” in response! …And we’re given the question..The DOG’S FAVORITE CHAIR is a? Hmm…Are we FACEd with a conflict of interest? A PAWS for concern? A RUFF patch to get over…with ROVER? Is the POOCHer a Moocher? Perhaps so, because our DOG’S favorite chair is the…”BARK-ALOUNGER“! Well, look at that…We’ve UNLEASHED another good one! Great job, David! You took a nice BITE out of this!

Ok, eye candy. We see a credenza against the back wall, nicely FRAMED. Two photos sit atop, one an oval-shaped wedding picture of our home owner and his wife, and the other a square shot of ROVER with a ball. Beyond that, a flight of steps. Our man, bespectacled, is wearing a Blue T-Shirt, and sporting the trendy Sponge-Twist hairstyle popular among African-American males today. I love the longer length in the back. He’s holding a newspaper, folded to the Comics section, where we can see from top left…Pass, Ziggy, Family Circus, and below that…Pass, and then the Jumble. It doesn’t appear to be today’s Jumble though, since the answer circles are different, and the man in the puzzle has straight hair. If anyone can make out the two Comics I passed on, please let me know. They both DOGGED me…So, what would be my eye candy today? RUFF call…But I’m running so late as it is, and not to spend too much time KIBBLEing over it, I’m just going to go with the look on ROVER’S face...We can’t see any CANINE teeth being bared…but those EYES? The angry deTAIL Jeff’s giving us with those furrowed Brows?  I do think this may prove to be quite the STAND off…So, There you have it, Folks! Done! Have a great day, Everyone!…And remember…It’s far FETCHED to go through Life thinking we’ll never have to ROLL OVER…What’s important is knowing what’s worth fighting FUR, and when we should just TAKE A WALK….🐶🙋🏻

  1. The BURLY detective faced a KNOTTY situation and felt UNEASY when asked to investigate GRAFT in his father-in-law’s business.
I was slowed down by UNEASY, a fairly normal difficulty with prefixes. The solution was apparent even before I got that last word. I guess I am finally able to ignore the quotation marks and see the puns for what they are.
Elvis song today has me puzzled. Do not remember having heard it, so I’ll do some research later. The dog in the cartoon may not be a hound but “Hound Dog” came to mind when I saw your choice, Angela.
Thanks for the colour details—I may go to another site and check that out. No idea about the comics you are stymied by so I’ll leave that to others.
Great details in this cartoon, several of which I missed,. Thanks again.
Saturday brought a cold front through my area but your puns and post are as HOT as usual.
    Have a great weekend, all.

    • Good Morning, Earl! Your sentence this morning definitely has me SITTING UP and taking notice! I’m loving the Father-in-law angle! You never cease to amaze me! 👏🏻 Kudos! UNEASY! I’ve heard it all morning…And as you’re saying, the UN. Which is why I mentioned it in my post…It just seems to throw some of us off…But the solution is far from being a DOG, right? I think it’s brilliant! And very funny! My song today…Probably not well known at all. It’s from the soundtrack for an Elvis movie from 1966. “Paradise, Hawaiian Style”. My Father had it in His collection. I’m constantly amazed, even after all these years, at the diversity of my Father’s music collection…And I don’t know what made me remember this song this morning, but I did. So I checked on line..(quicker than going through His cache),…and there it was! And 🎶Hound Dog🎶’s a good one too, although this DOG don’t look like he does much cryin’! I think he rules the roost! 😂 Thanks for the Shout Outs…😘 always appreciated, and you’re quite welcome for whatever you feel I’ve offered… We’re hovering around 70° down here, and it’s feeling glorious..I’m sorry you’re having an early chill…I hope it doesn’t keep you from getting out there and enjoying your day! 🐶🙋🏻

  2. This one is really obscure. I never heard of a barcalounger before. There are plenty of other bark words out there that could have been used. For example, if a dog barks all day long possibly annoying the neighbors, he is barking a BARKAROLLE. Or you can have trees that bark. Or when a dog boards an airplane, he is emBARKing on the plane. The former name of the baseball diamond in my city is Parker Field. A park near where I live has an area reserved for dogs to run around in. Its name is BARKER FIELD.

    • I thought barcalounger sounded familiar, so I looked it up on Wikipedia and found this:
A Barcalounger is a type of recliner made in the United States of America. It was introduced by the Barcalo Manufacturing Company of Buffalo, New York, which eventually became the Barcalounger Company. The chairs are currently produced in Morristown, Tennessee, after the company filed for bankruptcy and shuttered its facilities in Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Martinsville, Virginia.

      • Hi Mike…Good Morning. Nice research. And I’m STANDING firm…David can sit back and put his feet up with this one. It’s a winner! Have a great day! 🛋🙋🏻

    • Good Morning, Jim…I’ll apologize in advance, but I have to give you a DOG fight on this one! Barcalounger is far from obscure! I personally own 4-5 of them. They’ve been around forever, and what I love about them is that they’re made in America. Right there, you got my money! They’ve been mentioned and/or featured in movies, books, TV shows, etc, a gazillion times over the years. In fact, there was a very popular episode, on the very successful sitcom “Friends”, where the Barcaloungers played a key role. And “Seinfeld”, another extremely popular show, also did an episode where the Barcalounger held sway. (And I do mean held SWAY)! 😉 And what about “Frasier”? That battered Barcalounger of his Father, Martin, adorned every episode…and played the focal point/story line in many besides! And I SAT through them all, enjoying every minute…So, I’m sorry, Jim…I could go on all day…but I’m already running way behind schedule, and I need to get up off my CHAIR, just like ROVER needs to! This time, with all due respect. you’re BARKING up the wrong tree, Jim! Have a good one! 🐶🙋🏻

    • Jim…If you’re still SITTING around reading the comments, I MUTT as well cut to the CHASE, and with my TAIL between my legs, offer you a MUSH deserved apology. And I’m not just THROWING YOU A BONE. I was too quick to judgement this morning, and maybe too hot around the COLLAR, and I shouldn’t have JUMPED UP on you the way I did…I was probably a little too RUFF on you, and I’m sorry…I hope we can let sleeping DOGS lie, POOCH things up, and get back to our NEUTERal corners…As I live and BREED, I never thought this would ocCUR! Have a good one, Jim, and I hope you won’t FLEA the site because of my PAWStulating! 😉🙋🏻

  3. Good morning. Angela, would you be late, late, late for a very important date. And Earl,”What to do,What to do”. How would Tom Selleck of Blue Bloods handle this dilemma. But then again it’s in-laws and technically not family. Terrific job all around to both you guys from song (have to check that one out) poem, puns and sentence using the words. My choice for hardest word was Uneasy. I had un apart from the other letters and it still took some time to register. The other three words were fairly quick to get. After studying the letters for the cartoon I noticed the answer in the letters. Crossing them out confirmed it. Until tomorrow stay well.

    • Good Morning, Brooklyn! ..”No time to say hello…Goodbye… I’m late, I’m late, I’m late, I’m late…”🐰😂! You slay me! And the technicality? Too funny! Thanks so much for the Shout Outs, you’re a 😘 Sweetheart! And you’re right on time with UNEASY..So far, it’s the DOG of the day! Agree also, that the solution was an easy one…Hope you have a great day, Brooklyn..we have beautiful weather! 🐶🙋🏻

  4. Angela:
I especially like this part of the Wikipedia entry: “Barcalounger is reputed to be the first American company to allow its employees coffee breaks, in 1902.” We can all be grateful for that!😁
While I’ve got you, I found a great Paul McCartney video in which he gives the stories behind some of his greatest songs, including I Lost My Little Girl, Yesterday, I Saw Her Standing There, And I Love Her, Eleanor Rigby, A Day in the Life, Hey Jude, Helter Skelter, Blackbird, Let It Be, Hi Hi Hi, Here Today, Jet and I Don’t Know.

    • Hey Mike…I haven’t read it, I’m going to go back and check it out when things slow down here…I’m juggling like crazy…and dropping too many balls already as it is! I’m a menace! But coffee breaks, you say? Well you got my vote ☕️ with that one! 😉 Thanks for the link, I look forward to seeing it. It sounds great…I’ll get back to you and let you know what I think…🐶🙋🏻

    • Mike, I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to you..It’s been the craziest day…Where/what is this from? Was it on TV? Do you know if there’s more footage besides this? It’s totally, totally amazing…Hearing him say….”When John and I, John Lennon and I”…Are you kidding me? Does he even for a moment think we wouldn’t know who he meant..? It’s so endearing, and so mind boggling…And the piece on his Mother coming to him in the dream? Haven’t we all been there? And felt that comfort? I swear, I was dying…And “Saying I love you to John”?… I had a lump in my throat…
He’s a Masterful Story Teller… He needs to do more of this. So much more of this…And how great would it be if Ringo joined with him on it?
You know…I have almost every single piece of this music. First edition, too. Definitely all of the old stuff, thanks to my Father…And I sometimes just hold the albums and stare at the covers, and I’m amazed that they’re real…And that they belong to me now…Crazy…Thanks a million for this Mike. I’m saving the link to pass on…🎶🙋🏻

      • I think I just noticed it in the side bar of YouTube. It says it was published by GQ Magazine this month. I didn’t know GQ put out videos. 😏

I knew you would love 26 minutes of Paul talking!😉

        • Yes, I noticed the GQ logo too. I didn’t know either, thought they’re just a print publication…I have to look into it…And yes, you’re so right! Listening to that man speak blows me away! He’s amazing…Thanks again.Mike. And a few people have already gotten back to me asking, just as I did, if there’s more of this! It’s definitely a treasure trove for any Beatles fan! 🎶🙋🏻

  5. I got the answer but I didn’t “get it” because I, like Jim, never heard of the Barcalounger before. Shout out to posters and to Buffalo, where the chair originated.

    • Good Morning, Caroline! Really? Well good thing I gave Jim the “apologize in advance” and the “all due respect”! I had no idea! The name’s so commonplace to me. Could it be a regional thing? You know, now that I think of it, one of my early morning Jumblers from Indiana? He said something similar to me this morning…And I quote..” What lounger is it mocking? Not a term I am familiar with” ..But he’s always “mocking” me..😉, so I just figured he was pulling my leg…once again! And I’m not even sure how I replied to him! It was 5:30..I may not have been kind! 🙄…I feel terrible now, all around…I may have to do some serious adjusting to my entire menu today…because it looks like crow may need to be added! 😂 But I wonder if it’ll go with Sausage and 🌶 Peppers and Eggplant🍆 Parm? 😂😂🙋🏻

  6. I guess you’ll learn more about how well known the name is. My husband, who is from the Midwest, hadn’t heard of it either. I haven’t done much furniture shopping and don’t have any chairs like that.

    • I hope so. And now you’re saying that your husband hasn’t heard of it either. And yet, if I’m not mistaken, aren’t Jeff and David both from the Midwest? I tell you, Caroline…This is getting more and more like being back in school! 😂 The research! The angst! I have so many recliners, that I just took it for granted. I just hung up with one of my cousins, who recently purchased a recliner, to ask her the name, and where she bought it. She said on-line at Wayfair. And then I asked her what made her buy it, and she said because of me! But, this helps me, how? 😂 She said that her husband and kids all found them so comfortable when they were here, and that’s what prompted her to get one. But then I asked her if she’d known the name before seeing mine…and she asked if I was losing it!!..(Do I need the sarcasm)? 😉 She said, “Of course, there were two in Grandma’s house”…I’m more confused now then ever! I have purchased a good amount of furniture over the years, but when and where I got most of it? Right now I have no idea…I wish my Mother was here, she remembered everything…Anyway, this is a real stumper, and I’m curious now to see what the others have to say…And also where David got his inspiration…🙄🙋🏻

  7. Redeemed myself after yesterday’s frustrating puzzle. Paused at uneasy for some reason but knew BarcaLounger as my husband loved the one we have. We have them way out west so am surprised some folks have never heard of them. Thanks for the historical information about them, Mike. I didn’t know that part and it makes me even more pleased to know that they are made in America. YAY ! Happy Saturday everyone.

    • Hi Betty..Good Morning…Let’s here it for the Redemption! Which you may just have helped me gain here! 😂😂…Such a conundrum with the EASY CHAIRS! You’d think it’d be EASIER, instead of causing such UNEASE! 😂 And how funny that you’re familiar with the Loungers out on the West Coast…With Earl and Paul seeming to be so familiar with them, I was just starting to believe that it was only known within certain areas of the East Coast…it’s definitely opened up a can of DOG FOOD! 😉 And yes! yes! with the BUY AMERICAN! Which is one of the main reasons why I’ve always liked them! Hope you have a great Saturday yourself, Betty! Be well! 🐶🙋🏻

  8. Uneasy is my vote for the troublesome word, but bark a lounger came to mind, though it was a vague recollection on my part, as I was more focused on a recliner rather than a lounger.

    • Hey Prof…Good afternoon! Potato…PoTAHto..Lounger…Recliner! I’m about ready to just throw my hands up in the air! Or maybe my feet up on the RECLINER! This has been some morning, especially for a Saturday! What a hard sell…Over an EASY CHAIR! 😂 Who knew that a simple puzzle could unLEASH such controversy! Not me..GNAW do I imagine the Jumble Guys! It’s just proven to be a real DOG EAT DOG endeavor today! But I’m glad you got the solve and the whole thing wasn’t a MASTIFF waste of time for you! Have a good one, Prof..and I’m happy to say that with you here..Now we got that CHUCK…WAGON! 😂🐶🙋🏻

  9. I thought today’s Jumble was particularly clever and humorous.
I became familiar with BarcaLounger reclining chairs
way back in the 50s. My dad really wanted one in the living room, but my mom thought they were too doggone ugly.

    • Hi Marlene…So nice to hear from you again! It’s been way too long! I’m so glad to see that you’re well! And Good one! 👏🏻👏🏻 You have me laughing out loud! I don’t know what they may have looked like back then, but they’re certainly not DOGGONE ugly today! (Although I’d definitely take a pass on this Salmon color)! It’s become obvious that you’d have to have been familiar with the name BARCALOUNGER to get, as you say, how clever and humorous this puzzle is today…because it really is a gem….And I’m feeling badly now for those of us who weren’t able to enjoy the pun…This doesn’t happen very often with the Jumble, and it’s proving to be quite the PET peeve! 😉 But I’m so glad you chose to write in..One, because as I’ve said, it’s been way too long since we’ve heard from you, and Two..Now we know that the LEASH reached the South too! 😉 Thanks so much for posting, and please don’t let so much time go by until we hear from you again! Be well, and have a great day! 🐶🙋🏻

  10. Hi all – I got everything right away except the last word. Are U SAYEN you got that quickly? That gives me NAUSEA, much like floating down the SUANEY river would. I used the trick of putting Y at the end, but then forgot to use the UN trick. This word for me was literally UNEASY.

As usual, the colors in the Chronicle are different, and we have a dark blue Barcalounger. I knew the term, but LAZ-E-BOY is a lot more common to me.

    Have a great day, everyone!

Well, since tonight’s Equinox is fast approaching , how about a Fall story?
I was at the house of a high school friend who was studying the Hammond organ with some of my other friends who played music (I hesitate to dignify it with the term “Band” 😂). He started playing pianist Roger Williams’ “Autumn Leaves”, and when he got to “Leaves”, he did this fancy little run down the keys like leaves falling. We all perked up and went “Whoa!”, and, in one of the most concise bits of musical reporting I’ve ever heard, he said “My organ teacher s**t when I did that!” 😂🙋🏻‍♂️

    • …Hmm..All I can say about that story is..YELP! I’m LEAVING it alone! 😷 Where do you WHIPPET up? 😉 And yep, UNEASY is the MONGREL today…Don’t TERRIER self up over it though…you’re in good company! Dark blue? That’s not even close! I think these people at your paper need to be taken down a PUG or two…All of this PAW coloring is just plain SIC! LA-Z-BOY makes me think of Brooke Shields.. Now that’s one DOGGONE pretty girl! Have a good one, G. Heel better…😂 I mean feel better! 😘🐶🙋🏻

      • Wow, I never saw any of those commercials, but maybe the Chronicle”s color is “Blue Lagoon”, then. Which connects to today’s Asimov Quiz and “Pretty BABY.” Also, maybe they gave away Barcaloungers on “Queen For A Day”.
I’m up for a few minutes between naps, but feeling better. 🙋🏻‍♂️

        • …And what a coincidence, that I am just now taking a breather, since my head’s about to explode! 😞 And I was just starting to look at the clip Mike sent me…Steve, what commercials? The Brooke Shields ones? If so, then see, maybe this furniture thing is regional…You’ve never seen them, and yet they’ve aired here constantly. I can’t think of a La-Z-Boy since without thinking of her…And I’m laughing at your foray here into 6 Degrees! 🙋🏻
