CARTOON ANSWER:

THEY WOULD PILOT THE FIRST BOEING 747 TEST FLIGHT NOW THAT THEY’D —

JDEHBTNDEOLA = LANDED THE JOB

Good Tuesday morning everyone!  The first three clue words came instantly today, with DOLLAR coming into view on second glance.  Moving along to the cartoon, I read the sentence and dialogue and attempted a blind solve but wasn’t able to figure it out.  Writing out the letters, I noticed “J” was first in the layout and JOB came to mind instantly.  THE and AND were both available for the other 3-letter word, but THE seemed like the logical choice.  LANDED was a quick solve with the remaining letters for the finish and another fun Jumble puzzle was complete!

Jeff’s cartoon featured three men, and two of them appeared to be pilots.  If you’re new to the game, you probably would have just finished the puzzle and moved on to the crossword or another part of the newspaper.  Diehard fans of the game know that Mr. Knurek does quite a bit of research for his pieces and this one is a great example.  The two pilots are actually named Jack Wadell and Brien Wygle, and there first flight in the prototype Boeing 747-121 took off from Paine Field in Everett, Washington on February 9, 1969 at 11:34 am.  During the test flight, they experienced minor problems with the wing flaps and decided to cut the flight short.  The plane was named City of Everett after the factory where it was built and is on display at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington.

Well there you have it folks!  I hope you enjoyed your flight with us today as we know you have many choices for Jumble Answers.  Thank you for choosing us and we look forward to serving you again real soon for all your Jumble Answer needs.  😊

THE SCUBA-DIVING PHILOSOPHER HAD —

HTHEOEGUDPST = DEEP THOUGHTS

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!  I hope you had a relaxing weekend and you’re ready to tackle another week of Jumble puzzles.  The first three clue words came instantly, with PASTRY being the only one to give me a few extra seconds of pause.  Moving along to the cartoon portion, I read the sentence and dialogue but was unable to come up with the answer.  After writing out the clue letters, I was still at a loss so I was forced to break out my notepad and began making 4-letter words.  Step, goes, post, gust, and stop all didn’t work, but for whatever reason, I saw THOUGHT and with one letter missing I made it plural leaving DEEP for the finish.  Mr. Hoyt did an excellent job of keeping the letter layout cryptic making this puzzle anything but a pushover for a Monday morning.  While studying the cartoon, I wasn’t able to find anything unique or hidden within it, but the boat bobbing above the water truly made you feel as if you were diving right alongside our philosopher friend!  Have a great Monday, and I’ll sea you tomorrow! 😉

MIKE, THIS ONE’S FOR YOU…. ⛏

Good morning, Everyone.

As a dedicated logophile, I really DIG today’s words, no BONES about it. Common, everyday words, that except for Bunion, I myself have used just this past week alone. But Dave’s anagram prowess took these everyday words and turned them into extremely INTEResting choices. Personally, I never quite “got” archeologists;  choosing a career that could leave them in RUINS. Working in the dirt and the heat, and knowing as the day went on, that it would get IAN HODDER.  I dated one once. Nice enough guy, but obsessively jealous. Constantly DIGGING UP THE PAST. Eventually, I just threw in the TROWEL. Ah, but I DIGress. Our words: I found them easy breezy, with the slightest tic at Offend. It just looked wrong. Glancing at the cartoon, I already had the answer, so I looked for my B. Getting it from Bounty sealed the deal. I think the phrase a “Bone of Contention” may be one of those that you’re either familiar with or not. It’s not all that common, so it may not be all that HUMERUS.

Wishing Everyone a day where we can all get ARCHAIC and eat it too! ⛏🙋🏻

POST SCRIPT:  I’m posting this later today for two reasons. I went to Mass first, and secondly I labored over this post. Mike and I agreed last night that some mention needed to be made about the terror spree in the UK. Two attacks within eight days…the mind reels in disbelief. He had enough faith in me to say that he knew I’d think of something. So, I sat here for way too long trying to come up with a witty post all the while weighed down with the sadness of recent events. I wasn’t even going to try and work it into the post. So, I did “my job”, the old “The Show Must Go On”. But, I’m so tired of the heartache. 💔 All I can say is, whatever God we pray to, whatever higher power we put our belief in, whatever guides our lives, He, She, It’s desperately needed right now.  🙏🏻

🍩  HAPPY NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY 🍩

Good morning, Mike, Good morning, Everyone!!

So, Mike, coincidence much? Hearing that Twilight Zone Theme music in the background? Think you’d like THIS new car? JUMBLE MOTORS presents the “MOSAIC”. Straight off the assembly line right into your heart! How cool is this?

MOSAIC, defined by Oxford as a picture or pattern produced by arranging together small pieces of stone, tile, glass, etc. A PUZZLE….! This CARtoon may just rank up there in the Top Ten!  Just look at those happy faces!  Who wouldn’t love this nifty little two-seater, complete with the monogrammed “J” and a intelligent personal assistant to help with all your Jumble needs? We could call him Javeffed.  (Hey, if the President can do it…)!  I tried! Anyway, we seem to be putting it in reverse here…THE WORDS! Purge, Heavy, Poetic, 1-2-3…we’ve seen them before, scrambled anew. I want to say we’ve seen Tandem also, but I’m not sure. Or are we BRAKEing precedent? Tandem, I had to do a DOUBLE take.  Not an everyday word by no means, and there’s always that tendency to want to end it in ED. The scramble is great! But I RODE it down, and was back on track. The salesman, saying the price has risen,  AUTOmatically gave us UP.  And DRIVEN was a given! Back to the CARtoon, the sticker price started at $25K. We don’t know what it’s up to now. I’d hope it came in other colors, though, because this mustard is a must not! Maybe negotiate over that. The woman with the newspaper, obviously doing the Jumble, she’s obviously…You finish the sentence..

A lot of Donut chains are offering freebies today. DONUT about you, but I think I’ll grab one with my cappuccino. I never met a Jelly that I didn’t like!

Hoping we all get to find that road less traveled…I wish you a great day! 🚘 🙋🏻

CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN THEIR KIDS AND PETS CRAWLED INTO BED WITH THEM, THEY WERE ABLE TO —

IPGLSETETH = SLEEP TIGHT

Good Thursday morning everyone and happy first day of June!  The only word to give me few seconds of pause today was EAGLE.  The five letter words have really been slowing me down lately, and I think the issue today was vowel placement.  Moving along to the cartoon, I didn’t need the clue letters for an astounding third day in a row!  The answer came to me right away after reading the dialogue and sentence for a no pencil required finish.  Jeff’s cartoon may seem unimpressive if you didn’t stop to think about it after speeding through the puzzle, so if you were one of those folks, perhaps you overlooked some expertly placed detail.  The mom is sleeping peacefully on the right side of the bed with her daughter giving her plenty of room.  The dog on her side is also at the very bottom of the bed and not crowding her in the least.  When it comes to dad, his eyes are drawn in such a manner that it’s as if he’s squeezing them shut to indicate his rest is anything but peaceful.  The little boy is on top of the covers with his right arm outstretched on his father’s head, and the dog on his side is almost pushing him off the bed as indicated by his knee being off the mattress.  Dad has almost no covers on him at all, and those of us with children can relate to how truly accurate this drawing really is.  Enjoy your day and I’ll see you tomorrow! 😴

SKESUSOCECTY = KEY TO SUCCESS

Good Wednesday morning everyone!  ASKED was the only word to give some pause today, but with a little thinking and a dash of luck, it came after a minute or so.  Moving along, I thought CHATTY was “catchy” at first but that extra C was nowhere to be found.  With all of the clue words completed, it was on to the cartoon.  A quick read of the sentence and dialogue gave me all I needed to solve the puzzle and a check of the clue letters confirmed my answer.  The letter layout had the words well hidden, so if you weren’t able to solve it blindly, you may have struggled a bit.  The cartoon was excellent and featured a locksmith explaining to an employee the value of customer service while pointing to a keyhole.  A very subtle clue that I overlooked until I studied the cartoon for a few minutes.  Another great clue was the woman in the background asking another employee to make her a key.  I really enjoyed her stretched out pinky finger and trendy glasses!  A few weeks ago, I upgraded my front door lock to a keyless entry system where you can unlock the door by entering a code manually on the keypad or if my phone is in my pocket, the Bluetooth function will automatically unlock it.  No more worries about the kids losing their key or hiding a spare one under the doormat.  Enjoy your final day of May for the year and I’ll see you tomorrow!  😀 🔑

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday!  I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and are well rested and ready for some Jumble fun.  No problem with any of the words today as they all came instantly into view and I trekked over to the cartoon within seconds.  After reading the dialogue and sentence, TOP STORY was my guess for the final solution and I wrote out the clue letters to see if my hunch was correct.  Sure enough, TOP was all together at the end of the letter layout leaving STORY for the finish.  The cartoon outshined the anagrams this morning, with Jeff giving us a quaint English scene of what appears to be a husband and wife having a cup of tea while looking over the morning newspaper.  Doing some research on the timeline of the Everest Expedition, Hillary and Norgay reached the summit on Friday May 29, 1953 and news of their success reached London just in time for Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation on June 2nd.  A well drawn portrait of the Queen hangs in the background of the cartoon adding to the historical accurateness of the event!  Jeff and David are always on top of their game, giving us not only a fun puzzle but a mini history lesson all wrapped into one.  Enjoy your Tuesday and I’ll see you tomorrow!  😀

Mike, This one’s for you! 🏁 🥛

🏁🏎 Good morning. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN START YOUR ENGINES… 🏁🏎

Welcome to the Jumble coverage of the Indy 500! We got what we were waiting for, a true ‘Day-themed’ puzzle! Today, we bring the Indy into its 2nd Century, with the 101st running of this iconic race.  200 laps, 500 miles, “Kiss The Bricks”, “Drink The Milk”, we got it all! You already saw all the answers, so let’s take a moment, and talk about the race. Me first.  This pretty much sums up what I know about the Indy:  HELIO CASTRONEVES! HE-LI-O.  Ok, that’s all I got!  LOL. No, seriously, talk about “Start your Engines”, “Kiss the Bricks”, “Happy Hour”, and “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing”…. HELIO! (Listen, y’day we gave Mike his comic books, today I’m taking my HELIO)!   Hopefully today, he’ll win it for the 4th time. Ok, enough, your turn. Scott Dixon’s in pole position, the winner gets the Borg-Warner Trophy, and it might rain in Indiana. (Feel free to add any other personal Indy thoughts in your post)!  LOL…Oh yes, the puzzle…I found the compilation of today’s words a RUNaWAY hit! The scrambles were fantastic! UNFAIR was a little hard to look at, am I right? Same with ENOUGH? But everyday words, easy ENOUGH!  The solve.  A little bit of a “Hmm” here. I think we all look for “the” or “and” when we see that 3 letter box. HA! Not today. The key to today’s solve was the cartoon pic. The track. Knowing we had the  necessary letters, after filling in the only 5 letter word, the rest was a WIN. “No one going to catch him”…”He’s the champ” = the winner. And now, the cartoon itself. Jeff, once again, Kudos! So much detail! The Scoring Pylon, is filled with the teeniest tiniest numbers. How does he do it? (I can’t help thinking he’d be great at applying mascara)!  LOL. The blimp! “PLAY JUMBLE”, emblazoned on the peach colored aerial advertising on the banner towing plane! The tiny multi colored cars!…The woman…The woman, (daily Jumblists, can you guess)?!! LOL… So, I should wrap this up, huh? Talk about MOTOR mouth! Just one more thing, if I may?  …19th pole position, Car 3, Team Penske. HELIO.  Can’t you just see that face framed in the Winner’s Wreath! (Sorry, I’m just so DRIVEN to disTRACTION)!

Wishing us all a great Sunday, INDYed! ..See you at the finish line! 🏁🏆  🥛🙋🏻

WHEN THE CARTOONISTS SKETCHED PEOPLE IN THE COMIC SHOP, THEY —

CAEWRDRDWO = DREW A CROWD

Good Saturday morning and I hope your long weekend is off to a fantastic start!!!  DREDGE was the most difficult word for me today.  No matter how many times I looked at it, all I saw was “degree”.  A few minutes of self-jumbling did the trick and I moved right along to my favorite part, the cartoon!  I was SHOCKED when I saw that the setting was a comic shop, and what a delightful surprise it was!  There’s no better place to visit on a Wednesday morning when new books hit the stands and you get the next installment of a wonderful story.  With top notch art and a weaving tale of suspense and intrigue, what’s not to love about comics!  SKETCHED was the key word in the sentence and looking at my clue letters, I found “draw” first.  CROWD came next leaving me an E.  With a quick switcheroo (yes it’s a word!) of the A in draw to an E, I had the solve and could finally admire what has become my favorite cartoon to date.  In a unique twist, Jeff drew himself being the sitter while his likeness along with his beloved Wilco t-shirt where transformed into a cherished keepsake.  Oh what I wouldn’t do to be featured in one of his cartoons!  I’ll have to wait until the cartoon is published online so I can zoom in and gobble up all the delectable details of the comics in the background — the newspaper version just doesn’t do this piece justice!  Count on a close up sometime mid-morning, and until then, enjoy the start of summer and I’ll see you tomorrow!  😉

ONCE HER CAR WAS REPAIRED, SHE SAID THIS IN REGARDS TO THE DAMAGE —

DIOGNTDESDOR = GOOD “RID-DENTS”

Good morning everyone and happy Friday!  I was bored yesterday so I took the opportunity to spruce up the website a bit and I hope you like what you see.  I also made a change to the comments section so you no longer need to enter your name and email to leave your thoughts.  Hopefully this will encourage you to post what you liked or maybe disliked about the puzzle.  With all that out of the way, here’s how I solved today’s game.  All of the clue words came into view quickly and I didn’t stumble at all which was a nice break after having some difficulty yesterday.  With all of the clue words solved, I cruised on to the cartoon portion.  Noticing that part of the solution had quotes, I took no chances and wrote out all of the clue letters before reading the sentence and dialogue.  Repaired and damaged were the two words that stuck out like a sore thumb so I had a feeling that they would somehow be included in the answer.  The letter layout was pretty nifty in that it didn’t give anything away.  For some reason, GOOD was the first word I found and it was 4-letters so I wrote it down and crossed out the letters.  DENTS came next and RID was right there to complete the puzzle giving us a funky play on words and an overall delightful Jumble finish.  Jeff did a great job on the cartoon, especially with all of the little dents on the car in the background.  That same car had three cracks on the windshield which was also a nice touch and I couldn’t help but notice that the front grill looks like an eye!  Have a great long holiday weekend and I’ll see you tomorrow.  😀

CARTOON ANSWER:

AEOFRNGEYESWT = WASTE OF ENERGY

Happy Thursday folks!  Mr. Hoyt really challenged us this morning by picking some obscure clue words to keep us on our toes.  FROND and GEYSER were the two doozies that gave me the most difficulty which caused me to break out my notepad and work them out.  CAMEO came into view after a few seconds of thinking about it, leaving SWITCH to be an instant solve.  With all of the clue words complete, I made my way to the cartoon portion of the program.  Reading the cartoon dialogue and sentence, I figured the final solution would be a play on the conversion of garbage to energy.  Starting with the 2-letter word, OF was my first choice and it was neatly spelled out in the clue letter layout.  I paused a moment to ponder whether David would make it that easy to spot and ultimately chose to go with my gut instinct and fill it in.  ENERGY came into view surprisingly fast leaving WASTE right there for the finish.  Looking for details in the cartoon, I remembered back to when Mr. Knurek last drew a landfill. He put an alien head in amongst the garbage but it was nowhere to be found this time around.  The only fun detail I found was the young child that was looking down at his feet.  He appears to have Crocs on (with socks too — a fashion faux pas) and his feet must have been filthy after mucking around in all that rubbish!  Enjoy your Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow.  😀

THE RIVALRY BETWEEN THE WEATHER FORECASTERS WAS —

TENAPIGHU = HEATING UP

Good Wednesday morning everyone!  OFTEN tripped me up right from the get-go this morning so I breezed through the next three words and came back to think about it for a minute.  As soon as I started making words that start with O, the answer came to me and I jotted it down.  With all of the clue words complete, it was on to the cartoon.  After reading the dialogue and sentence as well as noticing the high temperatures on the map, I had a pretty good idea what the answer was going to be.  Writing out the clue letters, I quickly crossed out HEATING which left UP for the finish and confirming my original guess.  The letter layout of the final solution was great with “TEN” and “PIG” spelled out to try and get your mind going in another direction.  With Jeff giving us two clues as to who the meteorologists were in the cartoon  (the map of Michigan and 7 on the camera), I surfed over to the WXYZ Detroit website to take a peek at the staff.  The female looks like Hally Vogel, but I was unable to identify the male subject as he appears to be older in Jeff’s cartoon and all of the meteorologists on the website look middle aged.  Perhaps the male retired from the station because he couldn’t get along with her in real life like the cartoon depicts!  Have a great day and I’ll see you tomorrow.  😀
