CARTOON ANSWER:

WHEN THEIR KIDS AND PETS CRAWLED INTO BED WITH THEM, THEY WERE ABLE TO —

IPGLSETETH = SLEEP TIGHT

Good Thursday morning everyone and happy first day of June!  The only word to give me few seconds of pause today was EAGLE.  The five letter words have really been slowing me down lately, and I think the issue today was vowel placement.  Moving along to the cartoon, I didn’t need the clue letters for an astounding third day in a row!  The answer came to me right away after reading the dialogue and sentence for a no pencil required finish.  Jeff’s cartoon may seem unimpressive if you didn’t stop to think about it after speeding through the puzzle, so if you were one of those folks, perhaps you overlooked some expertly placed detail.  The mom is sleeping peacefully on the right side of the bed with her daughter giving her plenty of room.  The dog on her side is also at the very bottom of the bed and not crowding her in the least.  When it comes to dad, his eyes are drawn in such a manner that it’s as if he’s squeezing them shut to indicate his rest is anything but peaceful.  The little boy is on top of the covers with his right arm outstretched on his father’s head, and the dog on his side is almost pushing him off the bed as indicated by his knee being off the mattress.  Dad has almost no covers on him at all, and those of us with children can relate to how truly accurate this drawing really is.  Enjoy your day and I’ll see you tomorrow! 😴

  1. Good morning. Another easy one. Anticipating for the bomb to drop on a hard one. NO trouble with the words except for an extra minute on closet when it came time to the cartoon it was an instant read. Seeing them all squeezed together was a good clue towards the final answer. This reminded me of when as kids we slept over the cousins house all five in one bed. We had a lot fun. Until tomorrow stay well.

  2. Good morning, Mike, Good morning, Everyone.
🎢”June is bustin’ out all over…”🎢 New month! The month of brides, and graduates, and gay pride, and Flags, and Fathers…and Summer! J-❀️-N-E!! Ahhhh, J-❀️-N-E!!!
Ahem…Got a little carried away there! On to the business at hand…The words: Easy, breezy, 1-2-3-4! A little variation on the scrambling, but nothing new! The cartoon: Uh, SLEEP TIGHT doesn’t even come CLOSE! That’s a lot of oxygen being sucked out of that room, no? 🎢”Too close, too close for comfort, please not again…”🎢. Not exactly my choice, but hey, to each his own! As always, cute cartoon. Today’s Eye Candy? I guess that smiling little boy and his doll. But, for the Jumble color-deprived…Mother and daughter? The bedclothes? Whadda’ you think? Go on, take a guess…
Wishing us all a great day..and not a moment too June! 🌘 πŸ™‹πŸ»

    • How’s this for a super nit-pik? The sun’s on the other side of the moon; should have been πŸŒ’. I know you probably never see it with all them city-slicker bright lights and all, but us rubes glimpse it once in awhile – no chance at the Milky Way, though.
I gotta do something to feel smart, because I have no clue about the song. See Angela, I don’t deserve the sympathy you sent this morning, and I told you 🎡”I’m a Loser”🎡 Cheers anyway 😎

    • That’s my favorite band-naming story. They said that for about a year, they would keep asking “What should we call the band?” and someone would always call out, “What about ‘The Doobie Brothers?’ and everyone would go “Ha, ha, very funny – no really, what should we call the band?” and they just could never come up with anything better. (“Fried Bicycle Tire” hadn’t been invented yet.)

  3. First day of June and it’s NIPPY here in upstate NY, but I’m not upTIGHT about it because a friend just sent me a photo of a bald EAGLE he saw along the Erie Canal(truth) with his dinner in his/ her /talons.
For some reason I had a less than easy time with the clue words today, so I put the paper down, had a second cup of java and voila, a HEALTHY outlook and the answers all came.
Two dogs two kids and two adults– nice to see young boy with a teddy bear.

  4. Good morning, Sir. Not so here downstate. Almost 70 already and they’re promising 80. That coffee does it every time, right? I was on the wagon, and then y’day temptation reared its ugly head, so I went with a iced double cappuccino! It was like a fix! LOL. But,between that and the humidity, I was forced to watch the Mets game last night practically lying down! Maybe it was all for the best, tho…you know, less room to fall! I’m off to Citi Field today, great baseball weather, great friends, great park…all we need is a great game! So, an eagle with dinner, huh? Early in the morning? Good thing we don’t do pictures! Hope you have a great day! βšΎοΈπŸ™‹πŸ»

  5. Hi, Mike! Mrs. Day Late & A Dollar Short who comes up with good responses slower than cold molasses in January finally thought of what she could have asked you yesterday…Mike, while you were in Florida on vacation, did you have some lox at the Keys? Sorry, anticlimactic, so on to today.
I sent that Arizona sunshine first class, express mail, over-night delivery so I don’t know what’s a holdin’ it up but I hope it arrives soon for your garden. Maybe they thought I meant pony express. lol
My favorite clue word today is NIPPY. Hardest one for me was CLOSET. The cartoon picture and answer are ADORABLE!! I remember those days of kids and cats in our bed. You did an excellent job of the details, as usual!!
Yesterday Jerry & I had lunch at a quaint little breakfast, soup & sandwich place called Kiss the Cook, filled with unusual little antiques. Today daughter is coming to take me to lunch at Olive Garden because I told her I was hungry for lasagna. Between your kind comments to us yesterday & the lunches, I think I’m getting spoiled; at least I hope so. Lol
Enjoy your day, all! See you tomorrow.

    • Good morning, Lelia! I just received your sunshine package and it’s being put to good use. Sheets are on the clothesline and my “gigantic” sunflower seeds are starting to sprout. I really like the Olive Garden and it’s my choice for Italian fare. I always ask for extra olives on my salad though! Enjoy this beautiful first day of June and all my best for a wonderful lunch with your daughter. 😊

  7. Steve, it’s me, the dense one that you have to explain your clever comments to until they’re not funny anymore. I did not get it when you said to Mike yesterday…and it’s very β€œThorpy,” right Lelia?
Last season I saw one minute of The Voice and left immediately because I saw MIley Cyrus. She was gone this season. The first song Josh sang that I love to hear & is all over the internet with his long hair, white t-shirt, reddish jacket, red & black background, & long microphone was Ordinary World by Duran Duran. When you click his picture, you get to see his audition & hear the funny things that Blake Shelton, the western singer judge, says about Josh.
You wondered who might be steering Josh to these ancient songs. The answer to that is his dad. They work together all day long, except when his dad is teaching guitar lessons for a living, writing songs together so they can β€œgo on the road.”
I had never heard Ordinary World by Duran Duran or the beautiful Carry On Wayward Son by Kansas until I heard Josh sing them on TV. And I know only one verse and chorus of one Queen song.
Steve, I have never seen a movie moment or heard a song lyric more poignant than your telling me about waking your wife one morning and she smiled at you which you hadn’t seen for so long & that you two were going out β€œright now.” Words cannot express how happy I was for the two of you at that moment but how concerned I felt about her health. Just know that daily well wishes will be coming to both of you from both of us.
Almost forgot, I tried & succeeded in making a copy of the Red & Rover comic in which the little red headed boy kept practicing his salute to honor his Uncle Jimmy on Memorial Day. That comic is new to me. Thank you again.

    • Now you brought tears to *my* eyes. Thanks for your beautiful thoughts and well wishes. My wife was sick yesterday but seems to have fully recovered today by noon, so all seems indeed well right now, which is all I guess any of us can hope for.

I’d never heard Ordinary World either, and you should sometime check out “Dust in the Wind” by Kansas if you have time.

Thanks again and best wishes to you and Jerry, from MYSLOB, THORPY, and PYTHOR ! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜€

  8. HALFTIME: I got the wrong side of the moon? Jeez. I’m battin’ 1K, huh? LOL. 🎢”And if the band you’re in starts playing different tunes, I’ll see you on the dark side of the moon”..🎢 Yea, Bright Lights, Big City, that’s us NYer’s! So was it the Sinatra (BMH) song you didn’t know, or the “June”? That’s an obscure one. Old movie musical. You know the ones with the dubbed voices and the rip-roaring numbers! Know why I always remember it? Rumor has it that Sinatra (BMH) was supposed to play the title role. He was married to Ava Gardner then and she was on location somewhere and told him if he didn’t join her, she’d have an affair with Clark Gable! So he backed out of the movie! ROTFL. I got so much Sinatra (BMH) crap stuck in my head! LOL. And then, my Mother used to sing it. So….🎢”I’m a loser..And I lost someone who’s near to me..”🎢. Fitting, huh?

Pink Floyd – yet another Moon pet peeve, picky-picky today – there is no permanent Dark Side of the Moon – would it have killed them to sing “Far Side of the Moon”?

Hey, quote from a guy named Matt Katz on Twitter – “Note how Mr. Met does the complete Queens by putting his secondary hand at the bend in the elbow while the bird is flipped. A+ form. “. I guess you would know!

Of course I’m rooting for the Warriors, but still only a very casual B-ball fan, after hockey and baseball (and maybe bowling and curling!). And my wife still thinks Australian Rules Football is the best!

Unless it’s something Sinatra (BMH) was in! I think I’ll start saying Frank, so I don’t have to do all the head bowing! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. So you didn’t know “Too Close”? It’s good, right? The Doobie Bros. • Very fitting indeed. It reminds me of when Ringo Starr sang Photograph at the Concert for George, and said that the song was the same but of course the meaning was all changed:

“Every time I see your face
It reminds me of the places we used to go
But all I’ve got is a photograph
And I realize you’re not coming back anymore”
