TRACK STAR USAIN BOLT DREAMED OF BREAKING RECORDS WHEN HE WAS – – –

SPTEFALEAS = FAST ASLEEP

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday! As we sprint towards the end of the week, let’s see if David and Jeff gave us any hurdles to overcome before we make it to the finish line.

All of the clue words came instantly this morning and I honestly thought I was going to set a world’s record for the fastest completion time of a Jumble puzzle. Looking at the cartoon, I was able to blind solve this one with FAST ASLEEP coming to mind in no time flat.

Being forced to type out the clue letters every morning for my post, I started plugging away at the letters but something wasn’t right. I had all of the letters for FAST but my remaining letters of ENLEPS surely didn’t spell SLEEP. That hurdle I mentioned in the opening line of my post was intentionally written to reflect the trouble I had with one of the words.

Since I thought FLANNEL had two N’s when I first encountered it, I figured it was the word that was spelled incorrectly. Backing into it, and much to my surprise, it wasn’t FLANEL at all but FALLEN! I guess I should have paced myself with the solve proving the old adage of slow and steady wins the race truly is sage advice.

With that mess of a solve behind me, I noticed something very interesting in Jeff’s cartoon. Above Usain’s head, there are 9 (presumably gold) medals hanging. Doing a quick search, I discovered that he had indeed won 9 gold medals but 1 of them was taken from him by the IOC due to his partner testing positive for a banned substance leaving his official gold medal count at 8.

I hope everyone has a terrific Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow!

CARTOON ANSWER:

THE WOODWIND PLAYER WENT FISHING WITH HIS BUDDY AND HOPED TO CATCH A – – –

OABNSSSO = BASS SOON

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday. The week is flying by and the new Star Wars movie premieres tomorrow night and I couldn’t be more excited!!! We have bigger fish to fry right now though, so let me reel myself in and wade into today’s Jumble puzzle solve.

The clue words were super easy today with all of them coming into view instantly. I’d venture a guess and choose SEASON as the most difficult anagram to decipher. If you had trouble with this word, it was most likely one of two things. You probably coupled the S’s together when trying to come up with a word, or you started the word with one of the 3-vowels. It happens to all of us from time to time, and I just got lucky and happened to sea the answer right away. With all of them finished, it was on to the main event — the cartoon!

Looking at just the panel, we see a well dressed man and woman fishing in a small boat. Their hat’s don’t match their attire, but by reading the cartoon sentence and dialogue, we learn that these musicians will be performing soon. There were a few fun details that you may have overlooked. On the boat motor, Jeff sneakily added the word “Jumble” where the brand name is usually displayed. There is also a musical note on the woman’s hat which also added some extra flair to the piece. The best detail of all had to be the correct anchor placement for the vessel. Jeff nailed it with the anchor set from the bow, downwind and with the current!

I wasn’t able to blind solve this one, so I wrote out the clue letters. BASS immediately came to mind leaving SOON to finish this groaner of a pun. Have a wonderful Wednesday, and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🙂

CARTOON ANSWER:

THEY SPENT THE DAY WITH THEIR DAUGHTER’S CHILDREN AND HAD A – – –

MNDIGTRAE = GRAND TIME

Good morning everyone and happy Monday! Mr. Hoyt, our Jumble wordsmith, decided to start the week off with some interesting clue word choices. DOILY and ROTATE both took an extra second to figure out but neither word posed much of a challenge. I’m going out on a limb by picking ROTATE as the most difficult anagram, but it could very well be DOILY. With all of the clue words out of the way, it was time to move on to the cartoon.

Mr. Knurek is definitely in the holiday spirit with his first Christmas cartoon of the season! Looking at just the cartoon, we see a group of 6 characters that are in the process of decorating their Christmas tree. Reading the dialogue and sentence we learn that two of the characters are named Poppy and Lee Lee and they have a tradition of decorating the tree together. Alarm bells were ringing in my head upon seeing the unique wording of the sentence bringing “grandchildren” instantly to mind. Looking at the letter layout, GRAND was in there leaving a simple 4-letter jumble of TIME for the finish.

This quick Monday puzzle may not have been much of a stumper, but the charming cartoon leaves you with a warm feeling that only happens this time of year. Have a magnificent Monday and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🙂

LAPRIS – SPIRAL

RAFTEL – FALTER

EGGGIL – GIGGLE

FLONDU –UNFOLD

NIRWYE – WINERY

TINIFE – FINITE

CARTOON ANSWER: THE TENNIS COURTS WERE FILLED WITH- – –

SPRARGIEUNLRYNTE – RETURNING PLAYERS

Good Morning, Everyone!             🎾 TOO LITTLE, TOO LET? 🎾

🎶 RETURN to me..Please come back Bella Mia…Hurry back, hurry home to my arms, to my lips and my heart…🎶

🎾🎾 A Tennis ball SPIRALs as it sails through the air
One hopes it don’t FALTER before it gets there…
I GIGGLE because as this story UNFOLDs
I’m thinking that I don’t fit in this mold.
My tennis ability’s FINITE at best, not something I ever perfected
“Take thee to the WINERY“s more my MO
(And the meter needs to be corrected…) 🎾🎾

Ok, so the rhythm’s a little OUT of sync,  I admit. Not my best SERVE. But I’m having a RALLY hard time trying to get my POINT across to someone this morning, and I’m a little UPSET. But I’m sure it’ll PASS…OK, today’s words are beauties, as we’d say in Brooklyn. They’re all RETURNing favorites, with the anagrams being different…So, I guess that makes them what? MIXED DOUBLES? Sorry, I couldn’t resist! I just had to TOSS it OUT there! Ok, LET’s SWING over to our cartoon: We’re at a Tennis match, seeing a couple SCRATCHing their heads in bewilderment. Well not literally, but they are at a disADVANTAGE, because the COURT is JAMMED. It must be a RALLY nice place. I guess they thought they could just WALK OVER and play, but au contraire, my Dears! They may have needed “a reservation” as the dialogue tells us. Good POINT. And as the woman looks around, she’s DRAWing in some “familiar faces” among the players…Hmm…They’ve all been here before? And now they’ve RETURNed?..“RETURNING PLAYERS“? CROSS OVER to the WINning side, we’re done! Good LOB, Dave! And Jeff, your DRAWing once again, QUALIFIES too! You guys are ACES! Ok, eye candy. What will be my SWEETSPOT today? The STIFFNESS of the face of the player at right? The STANCE of the woman player? (Or her tongue BREAKing through her lips)? No, LET’s go once again, with something we’ve had beFOREHAND…Two woman? In the FRAME SHOT? You’ve guessed it! They’re both wearing Purple! Ladies, I ask you…Do ANY of us LOVE the color THAT much???
So, there you have it, Folks, Done!

Have a great day, Everyone! And remember…Sometimes we just need to get a GRIP. Because, somewhere DOWN THE LINE? Before we reach that BREAK POINT? ALLways look for the ALTERNATE solution, and trust your GUT.
BYE, BYE…🎾🙋🏻

SLENUS = UNLESS

CARTOON ANSWER:

THEY DIDN’T LIKE RUNNING AT THE HEALTH CLUB. TO THEM, THE MACHINE WAS A – – –

AMDDRILLE = “DREAD-MILL”

Good morning everyone and happy Thursday! The clue word choices were excellent this morning with MAMBO taking a few extra seconds to see. I’m not sure which word would be the most difficult so I’ll leave it up to you to let us know. With Mr. Hoyt’s brain warm-up complete, he passes us off to his partner to continue our Jumble fitness program.

Looking at Mr. Knurek’s cartoon, we see two women about to begin their cardiovascular workout on a treadmill. They look about as happy as I do when I’m about to hit the start button, but to be a Jumble champion, one must ensure that their body is as strong as their mind. There were some small details in the panel worth noting. The man on the treadmill in the back is working up a great sweat while the woman next to him holds a water bottle to ensure that she stays properly hydrated.

The letter layout gave the surprise answer away with ILL being grouped together. MILL instantly came to mind leaving DREAD to be solved in a flash.

I hope you enjoyed your Jumble workout for the day. Have a terrific Thursday and I’ll see you tomorrow! 🙂

DARAW = AWARD

RUCNH = CHURN

THEKCS = SKETCH

LORENL = ENROLL

CARTOON ANSWER:

SHE KEPT HER GLOVES BY THE DOOR SO THEY WOULD BE – – –

AADCNSTHEOL = CLOSE AT HAND

Good morning everyone and happy Wednesday! The first three clue words came instantly into view leaving me to struggle a bit with ENROLL. In the back of my mind I kept thinking that I’ve seen this clue word before but it just wouldn’t come to me. It finally popped into mind on my second cup of coffee and I was ready and determined to swiftly finish the puzzle.

Looking at the cartoon, we see a woman near an open door with the wind blowing in at her back. She appears to have forgotten her gloves as she was either coming in or leaving to take her dog for a walk. If you think about it, she was most likely leaving but a case could be argued that she was just coming home or quickly came back after forgetting them. Either way, the cartoon was pretty basic with only two details worth noting. Jeff did a great job with the woman’s reflection in the mirror, and you could make out the faint outline of her hand, face, and the collar of her coat. The second detail would be the little jacket on the dog. I’ve tried to put one my 7 pound Dachshund but he kept nipping at it during the whole walk. It wasn’t worth the headache so he’s been walking au naturel ever since.

The solve was a bit tricky for me and I tried to attack the 2-letter word first. There were several options such as ON, AT, TO and DO. With nothing coming to mind, I somehow saw HAND and crossed out the letters. CLOSE came next leaving AT for the finish. It wasn’t the swift finish I had hoped for, but a solve is a solve and I’ll happily try and redeem myself tomorrow.

CORINI – IRONIC

MYGPUR – GRUMPY

SIYFET – FIESTY

EFNODF – OFFEND

RUHOLY – HOURLY

GRIOIN – ORIGIN

CARTOON ANSWER:

A ZERO DOESN’T HAVE ANY VALUE BECAUSE IT’S – – –

ONIGRFTONDHOOG – GOOD FOR NOTHING

Good Morning, Everyone!         0️⃣ NAUGHTy NAUGHTy! 0️⃣

🎶NOTHIN‘ from NOTHIN‘ leaves nothin’…You gotta have somethin’ if you want to be with me…I’m not tryin’ to be your hero, ‘Cause that ZERO is too cold for me, Brrr…I’m not tryin’ to be your highness…’Cause that minus is too low to see, yeah…🎶

0️⃣0️⃣  The cutest thing to me it seems is listening to kids
The logic they portray at times can tickle any rib
You watch their faces as they think, they’re FIESTY and they’re cute
Uncertainty may show on one, and then they follow suit…
You try to teach them lots of things, their small minds not OFFEND
The sponges that these young minds are, knowledge has no end.
I learned to read when I was three, Dick Tracy was my passion
I now find it IRONIC, that I use comics for lessons.
You know which kids are ready, it’s not that hard to tell
With word ORIGINs you make up games and then they start to spell.
Some kids may first seem GRUMPY with things they cannot see
But patience and a grain of salt, you take it HOURLY.
So seeing this here teacher tackling basic digit math
The “GOOD FOR NOTHING” ZERO sometimes gets stuck on the path
They need to know its value, despite it being naught…
I did the words with our kids, the math in school was taught! 0️⃣0️⃣

Words and NUMBERS. Makes the world go round…And today’s words have been around before. The only slight tic was at Origin. Show of hands, who saw Groin? Let me COUNT…I think we were set up! And how Ironic that two words today have 2 I’s, an O, an N and an R?  Just sayin’. Different. FIRST and SIXTH, my eyes were  darting back and forth. And word # 5? R U HOLY? Well it is Sunday, right? How cute is that? Really great anagrams today, Dave! We can always COUNT on you to deliver!  Ok, on to our cartoon. Another classroom setting, we seem to be ATTENDING a lot of these lately. Jeff shows us a teacher, with 5 littles. I’m figuring it’s a Pre-School group. How cute is Jeff’s dialogue, with the little girl saying, “Your thumb is not a finger”? I know I didn’t know that at her age. But today’s kids seem to know so much, so young. The thumb is a digit. Digit get it? Being set lower on our hands, it consists of one joint, and two phalanges. Whereas the other four fingers, have two joints and three phalanges. And the thumb is opposable to the other fingers. As some of you may be “opposable” to this conversation! Sorry, what can I say? This is a Math cartoon, right? Ok, ok, enough. Let’s get on with the dialogue. The little boy asking “How many fingers is zero”? And how cute is that? So we’re shown the teacher stating that you can’t COUNT ZERO. And that the poor little ZERO has no value…it’s GOOD FOR NOTHING! Great pun, Dave! ADD another one to the winners list! Easy solve, but great job, Jumble Guys! Ok, eye candy. Our teacher, a blonde…dressed in purple? Uh, no. But, the little boy farthest left? He’s wearing a blue shirt, with the cutest pic of Thomas the Tank Engine on it! That’s my candy!
So, there you have it Folks! Done!
Have a great day, Everyone! And to whoever invented ZERO? Thanks for Nothing! 0️⃣ 🙋🏻
