WELCOME BACK,

PUZZLE FANS!

⚡️ Lights Out

Today’s cartoon takes us inside a home, where an electrician is wrapping up what will be his final job. After trying to handle everything from finding customers to doing the work, he has reached the point where running the business is taking more out of him than it’s putting back in. His last client seems surprised to hear he’s calling it quits, but he knows he can’t keep doing it all himself. After one final connection, he’s ready to shut things down for good.

➤ WIRED AND TIRED

The electrician is dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and pants, with knee pads strapped on as he works from the floor. He’s wearing a snapback hat and has facial hair around his mouth and chin. In his right hand, he’s pulling the wire, while his left hand holds the plug he’s installing.

➤ THE LAST CLIENT

The woman is standing over him and talking to him as he works. She’s wearing a short-sleeved shirt with scalloped sleeve edges, along with pants. Her posture and expression make it clear she’s reacting to the news that she’s his final customer.

➤ CURRENT CONDITIONS

The background shows the new electrical outlet being installed in the wall. On the floor nearby are the box it came in and a pair of wire strippers. Behind his head on the wall, there also appears to be an on-and-off light switch.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was an 11-letter anagram that solved into a 4 + 3 + 4 layout. Our Hump Day puzzle was quite easy to power through. One look at the cartoon and the electrician installing the outlet brought PLUG to mind, and a glance at the layout had PULL THE PLUG sitting right on the tip of my tongue. Once all of the clue words were solved, it was easy to plug in the letters to bring everything together. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our biggest nudge was the electrician literally PULLing the wire with his right hand while holding THE PLUG in his left.
