🥖 DOUGH NOTHING

Today’s cartoon takes us inside a kitchen, where a baker has found himself with some downtime while his bread finishes baking in the oven. When a coworker wonders why he is sitting back instead of working, the baker makes it known that, for the moment, the hard part is already done. With the mixing finished, the loaves baking, and the kitchen in good shape, all there’s really left to do is hurry up and wait.

➤ ON THE CLOCK

The coworker has slicked-back hair and a thick mustache, and he’s dressed in a T-shirt, pants, and comfortable shoes. He’s holding the kitchen door open while asking the baker why he’s taking a break.

➤ LOAF MODE

The baker is wearing a hair covering, a T-shirt, an apron, pants, and comfortable shoes, with a light scruffy beard on his face. He’s leaning back in a chair, legs crossed, holding his cell phone in his right hand and swiping with his left while waiting for the bread to bake.

➤ BAKED IN

The kitchen shows a double wall oven with loaves baking inside and steam rising from the top oven. On the prep counter, you can see a mixing bowl with a spoon, a bench scraper, and a measuring cup.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 10-letter anagram that solved into a 4 + 6 layout. Our first puzzle of the workweek, and the one bringing us into double digits for the month, went down with ease. Cartoons about food and cooking will always be my favorite, and today’s detail-packed kitchen scene didn’t disappoint. With the subject matter being bread and the baker doing little more than sitting around, I figured LOAF had to be in there somewhere. With all four clue words solved, LOAF was easy to pluck from the letters, and AROUND was sitting there waiting to finish the familiar expression. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the coworker asking why he wasn’t working and the baker’s laid-back attitude while waiting for the bread to bake, giving him plenty of time to LOAF AROUND.
