🐶 Tail Tales

Today’s cartoon takes us to an animal shelter, where an excited rescue dog is about to begin the next chapter of its life. As the shelter staff looks on with smiles, they know he’s finally found the forever family he’s been waiting for. His new owners can hardly wait to bring him home and start making memories together, while the dog’s wagging tail says he’s just as excited about the journey ahead as they are. Sometimes the happiest endings are brand-new beginnings.

➤ FOREVER FRIENDS

Both shelter employees wear matching FOREVER FRIENDS T-shirts with paw prints above and beneath the lettering. The woman has a small tear of joy running down her right cheek, while the male employee smiles proudly beside her.

➤ READY TO GO HOME

The woman holds the dog’s leash in her left hand while wearing a short-sleeved shirt, pants, and shoes. The man sits crisscross on the floor, as indicated by the visible sole of his shoe, while attaching the leash to the dog’s collar. Motion lines around his hand show him fastening it in place. He’s bald with a mustache, a small patch of hair on his chin, and is wearing a short-sleeved shirt and pants.

➤ ONE HAPPY PUP

The rescue dog is between small and medium in size, wearing a collar with its tongue hanging out and a big smile across its face. Its tail is wagging enthusiastically as it looks up at its new owner while the leash is being attached.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 15-letter anagram that solved into a 1 + 3 + “5” + 2 + 4 layout. Sunday solves are usually on the difficult side, and today’s puzzle definitely didn’t disappoint. Looking at the cartoon and the answer layout, nothing really jumped out as a likely guess. The one thing that did seem clear was that A would probably be the first word, based on the wording of the cartoon sentence and the single-letter opening block. Major kudos to David for turning up the challenge today, with CONFER and MORALE being real stumpers. Once all the clue words were finally in place, that single A was already waiting. Looking back at the cartoon, the LEASH immediately stood out, and from there the rest came together almost like filling in a Wheel of Fortune puzzle: A NEW “LEASH” ON LIFE. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the action lines around the LEASH being clipped onto the dog’s collar, while the cartoon’s wording about being adopted from the animal shelter pointed to the familiar expression A NEW LEASE ON LIFE, with LEASH providing the wordplay.
