CARTOON ANSWER:

“REST-IN”
PEACE
WELCOME BACK, PUZZLE PLAYERS!

🪦 PLOT TWIST

Today’s cartoon takes us into a living room, where a groundskeeper has finally made it home after putting in a long day at the cemetery. He’s settled into his recliner, clearly hoping to spend the rest of the evening doing as little as possible, but his wife is quick to remind him that someone is still waiting for a walk. With the dog eager to go, he can only look on with the weary expression of someone who has completely run out of gas. After a day like that, all he wanted was a little downtime.

➤ WALKING PAPERS

The woman has short, puffy hair with a small earring visible in her right ear. She’s wearing a short-sleeved shirt and pants. She holds the dog’s leash in her right hand while the clip end rests in the dog’s mouth.

➤ TOO TIRED TO TROT

The groundskeeper is stretched out in a recliner with the footrest extended. His hands rest one over the other on his stomach, and he wears a short-sleeved T-shirt, pants, and socks. His left sock has a hole with his big toe sticking through. His hair is flattened down, his eyes are droopy, and he looks completely worn out. The dog stares at him with eager eyes while its wagging tail is shown with motion lines.

➤ LIVING ROOM LAYOUT

A flat-screen television sits on a TV stand to the left. A doorway leads into another room behind the woman. The recliner fills most of the scene with the footrest extended.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was an 11-letter anagram that solved into a “4-2” + 5 layout. This one had me scratching my head for a few minutes. At first, nothing really jumped out beyond a tired groundskeeper who just wanted to stay put. Seeing the quotation marks told me right away we were dealing with wordplay, so I knew it probably wasn’t going to be solved until the clue words were finished. Once they were, the letters for PEACE were sitting there, and “REST-IN” easily cleaned itself up from the remaining letters. That was enough to put this one to bed. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our biggest nudge was the exhausted CEMETERY groundskeeper who wanted nothing more than a little downtime to himself… to “REST-IN” PEACE.
