CARTOON ANSWER:

HUMERUS

WELCOME BACK, PUZZLE PLAYERS!

😂 LAST LAUGH

Today’s cartoon takes us to a comedy club, where a stand-up comedian’s performance comes to an abrupt halt after an unfortunate tumble. While one audience member checks on his injured arm, another can’t resist cracking a joke of his own. Even in the middle of the commotion, the comedian is more concerned about the rest of his routine than the accident itself. Some people just want to keep everyone laughing, even when things don’t go according to plan.

🔎 Jumble Jeff’s Jems

➤ FRONT ROW FUN

Jumble Jeff and Kathy make a cameo appearance in today’s cartoon. Kathy is down on her knees with the comedian’s injured right arm cradled in both hands as she checks on him. The comedian’s disheveled hair and crooked glasses suggest he took quite a tumble.

➤ JEFF ENJOYS THE SHOW

Jumble Jeff appears to be having a great time, holding a drink in his right hand while adding a little comic relief to the scene.

➤ BRICKS AND PUNCHLINES

The action takes place inside a comedy club with a brick backdrop behind the stage. Beneath it are decorative wall panels, while above is a stained-glass-style window featuring what appears to be a performer standing at a microphone.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 7-letter anagram that solved into a single 7-letter layout. Our first puzzle of July started out with a bang, thanks to the comedian taking such a hard fall. FUNNY BONE immediately popped into my mind, but with the answer being a single word, I knew I’d have to rely on the clue words to crack this one open. After breezing through them and staring at the cartoon for a moment, it didn’t take long for HUMERUS to click as the bone behind the funny finish. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the action lines around the comedian’s right arm, pointing to his HUMERUS, along with Jumble Jeff providing a little comic relief that Kathy clearly didn’t find very HUMOROUS, giving us the wordplay needed for the finish.
