WELCOME BACK,
PUZZLE PLAYERS!
⭕ POLE TOLE
Today’s cartoon takes us into a world where geometric shapes have personalities of their own. After an unfortunate encounter with a pole, one formerly round character is looking a little worse for wear and is not exactly in the mood for jokes. His friend can’t resist pointing out the obvious change in appearance, while the injured shape is more concerned about finding medical attention than laughing at the situation. Between the wisecrack about a suddenly longer face, the visible frustration, and the transformation caused by one poorly timed collision, it’s clear this character wasn’t taking the unexpected change very well.

💎 JUMBLE JEFF’S JEMS
➤ THE CIRCLE & THE OVAL
The circle in the foreground is smiling and delivering the “Why the long face?” joke. The oval stands beside the pole after the collision with a shaken, frustrated expression. His glasses are askew, one hand is raised to his head, and several action lines around his body show the force of the impact.
➤ THE BACKGROUND SHAPES
In the background, a square and a triangle are walking together while holding hands. The square has a masculine appearance, including a small mustache-like patch where the nose would be. The triangle has eyelashes and fuller, puckered lips. The square appears to be watching the aftermath from a distance while the triangle does not seem to have noticed.
➤ THE SETTING
A tall pole stands along the right side of the cartoon near a corner. The background is covered with a grid pattern that resembles graph paper.
🧠 FINAL SOLVE
The final answer was a 14-LETTER ANAGRAM that would solve into a 4 + 3 + 2 + 5 LAYOUT. This Sunday solve never really threw me off my axis. In fact, it was one of the quickest Sunday solves I’ve had in a while. Once I read the cartoon sentence, paused for a moment, and let the joke settle in, the answer started taking shape almost immediately. After solving the clue words, getting the B from OBLIGE practically sealed the deal. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the circle becoming an oval after colliding with the pole and the visual emphasis of his injury.
