The final answer was a 9-LETTER ANAGRAM that solved into a single 9-LETTER WORD. Our weekend began with a bit of a head-scratcher. Reading the cartoon sentence, I couldn’t immediately come up with a 9-letter solution that fit, and with the upholsterer hard at work, I briefly wondered if the answer might somehow involve staples. Once all four clue words were solved, however, the V quickly brought COVER to mind. From there, the RE- prefix and -ED suffix were no trouble to attach, and the answer practically upholstered itself. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the double meaning of RECOVERED.
