CARTOON ANSWER:

UP AND “ADD EM”
WELCOME BACK
PUZZLE PLAYERS!
🏫 Cause for Alarm
Today’s cartoon takes us back to math class, where one student has completely checked out. The teacher calls him up to the board, but he is still half asleep and barely even aware of what is going on. One classmate looks at him like he might be stuck in his own little world, and he wakes up just enough to ask the worst possible question at the worst possible time. This is one of those moments where the room goes quiet and you know he is about to be told to get moving.

➤ THE TEACHER

The teacher stands at the front of the room wearing a polka dot dress, glasses, and an earring in her right ear. She points at the student with her right index finger while her left thumb gestures toward the board.

➤ THE CLASSROOM

One student has turned around in her chair facing him, with short cropped hair, a t shirt, and pants. Another student sits at a desk beside her, hair pulled up in a ponytail, holding a pen in her right hand. At the board, a student works through 24 plus 7 with a dry erase marker in his left hand.

➤ THE DOZING STUDENT

The student at his desk has disheveled hair and half open eyes. He is wearing a striped short sleeve shirt with pants and sneakers, still slumped as he wakes up.

🧠 Final Solve
The final answer was a 10-letter anagram that solved into a 2 + 3 + “3 + 2” layout. The first three letters of the layout spelled AND, so that felt like a safe place to begin and likely one of the three-letter pieces. With today’s cartoon being about math class and a tired student, I started by looking for anything tied to numbers or sleep. Further down, the P and U together pointed me to UP, especially with him nodding off at his desk. With those letters locked in, ADD EM was no trouble to pull from the remainder. If today’s puzzle slowed you down, our nudges were the teacher calling the student UP to the board, and the math problem itself doing a little wordplay for ADD EM.
📚 Click-To-Reveal Facts*: Sleep and School Performance
➤ How much sleep are teens actually missing?
Most teenagers need between 8 to 10 hours of sleep per night, but studies show that nearly 70% of high school students get less than that on school nights. That gap adds up fast, leading to slower thinking, weaker memory, and a noticeable drop in classroom performance over time.
SOURCE
➤ What happens to grades when sleep drops?
Students who regularly sleep fewer than 6 hours a night are significantly more likely to struggle academically, with lower grades and reduced attention in class. Even small increases in sleep have been linked to measurable improvements in focus, test scores, and overall school performance.
SOURCE
➤ Can better sleep actually improve learning?
Sleep plays a direct role in memory consolidation, meaning the brain processes and stores what was learned during the day while resting. Students who get consistent, adequate sleep show stronger recall, better problem solving, and improved performance on exams compared to those running on limited sleep.
