📖 SEARCH A HASSLE

Today’s cartoon brings us to a study where a youngster hits a wall with his homework. Dad walks in at just the right moment, and seeing his chance, he asks him for the definition of a word he’s stuck on. Mom chimes in and points him to the dictionary sitting on the table. Dad backs her up, making it clear this one is not getting handed to him. The dictionary may already be on the table, but it’s going to take a little digging before he can wrap things up.

➤ THE STUDENT

He is standing at a table with a laptop open in front of him. The laptop has a pineapple logo centered on the back. He wears a T-shirt and looks over towards Dad while asking his question. A hardcover dictionary sits on the table beside the laptop, with visible index tabs along the page edges.

➤ MOM IN THE ROOM

Mom is seated nearby in an armless chair, within earshot of the conversation. She is wearing a V-neck shirt with pants and a headband, with two earrings visible in her left ear. She holds her phone in her right hand while using her left to tap on the screen.

➤ DAD AT THE DOOR

Dad stands in the doorway wearing a T-shirt, pants, and has facial hair around the mouth and chin. He’s holding his phone down at his side in his left hand.

🧠 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was a 12-letter anagram that solved into a 5 + 2 + 2 + 3 layout. This one had me stumped for a bit. My first instinct was to search for words associated with dictionaries and words, but it ended up being a lost cause. Staring at the layout for a bit, I started plucking out two-letter words and settled on TO and AN. With those letters removed, it was just enough to be able to make MEANS and END leap off the page. If today’s solve gave you trouble, our nudges were Mom saying he would have to look up the definition to finish his homework, along with the dictionary sitting right there on the table. Together, the clues pointed towards the idea of using something to get something done.
