Welcome Back,

Puzzle Players!

A Novel Start

Today’s cartoon brings us into a modern office where a writer is handing over a stack of pages from her new novel to her agent. She is upfront about not having a title yet, explaining that she simply wanted to share the story and get things rolling. The agent, already intrigued, is thinking ahead to what the main character might tackle next. Nothing here is polished or bound, but it is enough to turn the first page on something that arrived sooner than expected.

🔎 JUMBLE JEFF’S JEMS

➤ NO TITLE, ALL BUSINESS The writer, wearing a blazer over a collared blouse, is handing over a thick stack of pages with a title page that is still a question mark. The author’s name is Tracy Clark, and the main character is Harriet Foster.

➤ DESK SIDE EDITORIAL The agent is seated at a desk wearing square-framed glasses. A laptop with a pineapple logo sits open in front of her. A single earring is visible.

➤ WINDOW DRESSING Outside the window is the Chicago skyline, anchored by the Willis Tower. Beyond the buildings is Lake Michigan, where Jeff’s familiar sinking sailboat makes another appearance.

🧩 FINAL SOLVE

The final answer was an anagram consisting of twelve letters that solved into a 5 + 7 layout. This one took a bit to work through. I started by chasing book related words, but that path did not get much traction. Once I went back and reread the cartoon sentence and noticed the phrase “ahead of schedule,” everything clicked. That line made EARLY jump out immediately. With those five letters pulled, VERSION was effortless for the finish. If today gave you some trouble, our nudges were the cartoon sentence pointing to a draft and an early version, along with the visual of a rough copy being submitted.

Chocolate Cobbler

This dessert keeps making the rounds because it bakes into two textures at once. A soft cake forms on top while a warm chocolate sauce settles underneath. It comes together fast, scoops easily, and works best served straight from the dish.
